Wow!!! What a Night

WOW!! What a night at Cole St!! Both games were neck and neck and both were nail biters!!

The Junior Division Championship game between Dipietro Citgo and Driveway Medics was played at Cole St field 2 tonight and both teams played their hearts out. The teams left everything they had on that field. (The clean up is going to take a while!) The scoring was back and forth through out the game. Good hits turned into great plays on the field. Great hits turned into runs!
In the end Driveway Medics held on to a one run lead in the 6th inning to take home the Junior Division Championship!! 

Congratulations Driveway Medics!!

In the Sr Division playoff game between Rehoboth/Seekonk Medical Center and The Old Grist Mill Tavern the game featured an in the park Home Run!  The game had to go to extra innings to decide the winner and finaly in the 8th The Old Grist Mill Tavern scored the go ahead, game ending run. What a GAME!! Congratulations to both teams for an outstanding game.

The Old Grist Mill Tavern now plays against Sundaes in the Senior Division Championship game on Thursday at Cole St Field 1. 1st pitch is 6:00 pm.

After tonights game I know I will be there to watch this final showdown of the 2009 season.

Monday night’s game results are;
Drivers Choice Driving School played a great game against The Old Gristmill Tavern, coming back from a 5 run deficit to tie the score in the top of the 6th. But The Old Gristmill Tavern stayed tough and scored the winning run in the bottom of the 6th to move on to the 2nd round game against Rehoboth/Seekonk Medical Center. That game will take place Tuesday night at Cole St Field #1.
In the 2nd round Senior game played tonight, Sundaes defeated National Security and will now wait for the winner of the Rehoboth/Seekonk Medical Center and The Old Gristmill Tavern.  The Senior division Championship game will be played Thursday night at Cole St Field #1 at 6:00 pm.
We hope everyone comes out to support both the Junior Division and Senior Division games on Tuesday and Thursday. We all look forward to seeing everyone at the closing day on Saturday and on the fields for the All Star Games.

A quick update on Saturdays games and upcoming games to get all to the Championship games.
Saturdays results include: Senior Division: Sundaes defeated FRMCU and National Security defeated Firefighters Local 1931. Sundaes and National Security will square off at Water Lane #2 Monday night at 6:00pm.  On Field #1 at Water Lane, The Old Grist Mill Tavern and Drivers Choice Driving School will play their game also at 6:00 pm.
In the Junior Division Dipietro Citgo defeated Andreozzi Concrete and Driveway Medics defeated Central Av Veterinary Clinic to set up the Championship game on Tuesday night at Cole St Field #2.

Hello Everyone,

As the season is winding down the Board of Directors wanted to let everyone know that the Closing Day ceremonies will be on June 20th at the Cole St fields. We will be highlighting each team and coaches will be able to say a few words about their girls and their season. Your coaches will have your photos available for pickup that day as well. After the ceremonies conclude the Junior & Senior Divisions will play their All Star Games at approximately 1:00 pm. All the festivities will take place at the Cole St Fields so plan to come out have a great time, some food & fun. Do a little dancing to the DJ and of course watch the last two games of the 2009 season.

A special thanks to all the Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Umpires and those that helped with the Opening Day, Closing Day ceremonies. An extra thanks to those that helped out in the concession stand to make our freshman year a success there also.

One final note the Wendy's cards that we asked each player to sell helped raise enough money to do something a little special for the girls this year. What kind of special? You will have to come to Closing Day to find out.

CORI Checks

Hi everyone,

I just want to let you know that we are starting the season a little bit earlier this year due to some changes. First of all the recreation department of Seekonk will be processing any and all CORI checks. Even though last year we said that they would be good for 3 years, you need to do them again.

Since they need to be done prior to the league getting their field permit, another change, we are holding a meeting on Tuesday Jan 27 at Aitken school at 6:30 pm for you to complete your CORI. I know that SS#'s are optional, however, I am told if you fill that out the CORI is processed faster. The CORI form will be available at the meeting, please bring with you on Tuesday, a copy of your license.

CORI's NEED to be done for everyone. Whether you are going to be a Coach, assistant coach, umpire, working at opening day, closing day, the concession stand or even helping out at practices in the event some one is not available, a form needs to be completed.

It also does not matter whether you had one done by the school or any other sports team this year, you will need to do it again for Softball. I can explain more on Tuesday. Hope you can make it and spread the word.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to the SGSL web-site for 2009!!  It's going to be a great season with a lot of new and exciting ideas being put forth by the Board of Directors.

There are plans for clinics for both players and coaches. Plans are coming together for the opening ceremonies as well as closing ceremonies.

One of the biggest projects that we are working diligently on is to open the concession stand at the Cole St fields. In the past we have had several requests for a concession stand and this just might be the year we will be able to accomplish it.

However, to make the concession stand a winning prospect we will need to have everyone’s support from around the league. We would like to start the process early enough to give us a feel of how this may work.

We need volunteers from all of the parents of the league to make this undertaking a success.

Please volunteer your time for our girls by sending us an e-mail of interest to the league email address and a Board of Directors representative will contact you shortly.

    Congratulations!!

    The Senior Division playoffs have ended and congratulations go out to Seekonk Fire Fighters for winning the playoffs in a great game against Dipetro Citgo last night.

    The Junior Division playoffs concluded Friday night with a game at the middle school. Stone Gate Builders came out the victor is a close game. Congratulations Stone Gate Builders!!

    Closing Day will be held at the High school football field Monday June 23. Rain date is Tuesday June 24. All players must be at the field by 5:45 pm.

    The All-Star games for the Junior and Senior Divisions will be played Tuesday June 24 at 6:00 pm at the middle school fields. More to come on the teams that will be playing.

    One day and counting down!!

    We are almost there ladies!! 1 day to the start of another great season. Make sure you all dress warm for the games.

    Some bad news: our uniforms will not make it in time to start the season. However, they will be in by the time you come back from vacation.

    The Good News is:  We're going to play Softball!!!

    New This Year, Try-outs for Jr & Sr Divisions

    For all girls new to the league or moving up a division into either the Junior or Senior Divisions there will be MANDATORY try-outs. The try-outs will be March 22nd at the Kevin Hurley Middle School Gym.

    Junior Division, Grades 3-5,  try-outs will begin at 9:00 AM and will end at 11:00 AM.

    Senior Division, Grades 6-12, try-outs will start at 11:00 AM and run until 1:00 PM.

    Go to the calender page, download and print a copy as a reminder!! 

    Now is the time to start thinking about getting in shape and warming up for the season.  Check out the links page for some exciting new sites that you can use to start getting ready for the season. Links include tips on hitting, fielding and we even have tips and drills for those of you who will be catching this year.

    We didn't forget the coaches either. There are tips and drills for coaches to use to get your teams in game shape. These are some great links for everyone participating.

    Don't forget ladies if you are moving up to a new division the try-outs are MANDATORY.  We look forward to seeing you all there.

    Fielding/Throwing Clinic!!
    Mark your calenders, or print the one from the web site!  Fielding and Throwing Clinic will be held on Saturday March 29th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Jeff Creamer will give you the finer points of both of these important basics that each player needs to develop.  So come on out to the Middle School Gym for a great learning experience!!

    Welcome to SGSL 2008

    Hi, everyone!

     Welcome back to a new year! I can’t believe we are starting another season - time goes by so fast.
     I just wanted to share with you some of the things the Board has been working on. The Board has been very busy trying to make some improvements for this season and writing this letter is just one of the things we have decided to do.
     First of all, you will be recieving a mailing from the league. Enclosed please find two forms - a registration form and a CORI form.
            Please note that this year’s registration form does have some changes. First - we have changed our divisional names. Our divisional names are now Farm K-2nd, Junior 3rd – 5th and Senior 6th – 12th. Second - we have added a spot for you to indicate whether you give the League permission to put your daughter’s picture on our new website; and third - you are now able to register for softball on our new website.
     The other form enclosed in your mailing is a CORI form. Like last year, anyone and everyone who helps in any way with the League must have a CORI check. Therefore, if you have not had one done with the League you will need one done before the season begins.
     The website has been something the Board has been talking about for years and we were able to set it up this year. We hope by establishing this website we will be able to communicate better with you when it comes to schedules, cancellations, fields, games, events, etc. So take a look at our website and let us know what you think. The link can be found on the registration form.
     The Board also spent many hours revising our by-laws. We believe that the changes made are fair and address many of the past issues. The by-laws will be passed out to all of the Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches at our first meeting. We have many other exciting things coming down the pipeline this year. I will try to keep you informed as much as I can. However, much of the year’s communication will be through email and/or our website.
           In addition, the League continues to look for sponsors to keep down the costs of registration and we continue to look for volunteers for opening day, closing day and any other events. Forms have been sent to all coaches to update their equipment and should have been submitted by 1/28/08. If you have not done this, please complete and send in as soon as possible, since this allows the Board a chance to review what items need to be replaced and what equipment needs to be purchased. Another reminder, any player moving up to the Junior or Senior Division must TRY OUT. The try out information is listed on the registration form.
           Also, the League continues to look for anyone who wishes to be an Umpire. For more information on this, please call Frank Blackbird at 508-399-8023.
          In any event, please fill out your registration form completely and return it to us no later than March 17, 2008.

    Welcome; Now It's Really Time to "Get Your Game ON"

    The teams have been drafted and you should all be hearing from your coaches very soon. They will have some great information for you from what team you will playing for, who you will be playing with and most importantly when and where your first practice will be.

    If you haven't already started your "Spring Training" now is the time!! We don't want anyone going on the injured reserve list this year!!  So wake those muscles up and let's start getting ready for a great year of softball.

    Don't worry, if you haven't heard from your coach yet, they are most likely setting up your practice agendas!!

    We will be having our second coaches meeting on Thursday March 5th at 6:30 pm at Aitken school, in the teachers lounge. This meeting will address the rules that everyone was given at the last meeting on the 24th.

    Skills Day

    Hello everyone,

    Coaches meetings have been held. Rules, fundraising, C.O.R.I.s, Asst Coaches, and numerous other topics have been discussed. Now we are getting ready for the "Skills Display Day" this Saturday, March 14 from 9 am - 1 pm.

    Girls who are new to the league or are moving up to the JR Division will start their displays at 9 am and will conclude by 11 am. Those girls who are new to the league or are moving up to the SR Division will start the displays at 11 am and will conclude by 1 pm. Don't forget to BRING YOUR GLOVE!!

    Coaches we ask that you arrive 15 minutes early so that we can get situated and get the paper work passed out to everyone. 

    We are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as new ones this weekend.

    Once the Display Day is over coaches will have until Monday to strategize with their Asst Coaches before the big Draft Day on Monday, March 16th.

    Girls will be hearing from their coaches shortly there after.

    We all look forward to seeing you this Saturday, March 14th either at 9 am or 11 am!

    Draft Day is Almost Here!!

    Hello everyone,

    What a great day yesterday at the Skills Display Day. There is a lot of talent in our league which will make this a very interesting season in all divisions!! 

    So now that the Display Day is over coaches are getting together, until Monday, to strategize with their Asst Coaches before going into the Draft Day on March 16th.

    Girls should be hearing from their coaches later this week or early next week.

    Then the first team practices, uniforms handed out and then the first games start!! I don't know about you, but the begining of the season is looking really good right now!!

    First Week Done

    First week of games are done! A little challenging with the cold weather, but all in all a good week!! Everyone just needs to keep those sweats handy for upcoming games.

    What? You don't have any SGSL Sweats??? Well then, you need to download the order form which is available under the handouts section. (Look to the left menu board.) The league is accepting orders until Opening Day, which is May 2nd. Either mail the order forms to the PO Box, (Look to the bottom of the menu board for address) or bring them to the opening day ceremonies.

    The first week has helped shake off some of the rust that has accumulated over the winter. Now with the vacation week upon us, there are no games scheduled, however everyone needs to keep practicing to make sure the rust doesn't come back.

    We hope everyone enjoys the vacation and we look forward to seeing you all on the 27th, when all divisions will be playing!!  So practice, practice, practice and stay warm with your new sweats!!

    Sr Division Championship

    The Senior Division game was played last night! Drizzle, downpours and a stiff wind made for an interesting game. In the end, after a great nail biter game by both teams,

    Sundaes are our Senior Division Champions!!!

    Final score 12-11!! It doesn't get much better than that! Congratulations to both teams!

    The Junior Division All-Star game will be played Thursday at Cole St fields.

    Well this weather is really putting a crimp in our games this week. Unfortunately, it will win out again for tomorrow. The board has decided to rescheduled the Senior Division Championship game and the Junior division All-Star game for tomorrow night. We will post here when we have the dates for the rescheduling.
