Tournament Rules and Tie Breaking Procedures General
Rules of Play…for the Tournament include:
1. Baseball Alberta rules will govern play except for where the following amendments are made.
2. There is a 2-½ hour time limit for all games excluding the finals. Coaches, Umpires and Scorekeepers are to note the time at the start of each game. No new inning will be started after 2 hours. The umpire and scorekeeper will stop any game still in progress at 2 hours 30 minutes at that point and the score FROM THE LAST FULL INNING WILL be recorded.
3. A 10 or more run mercy rule is in effect after 4 complete innings. The inning is to be completed… This should help eliminate ties at end of round robin play.
4. Tournament Officials reserve the right to re-schedule and/or alter the length of any game due to rain, darkness, or for any other reason or condition that may affect this tournament.
5. Home team will be decided by a coin toss, Team furthest away makes the call.
6. Infield warm-ups are limited to 5 minutes for each team 10 minutes prior to the posted start time. The team on the first base line will do infield first. (Only if time permits) This does not apply to Championship game.
7. Pitching rules are in accordance with Baseball Canada Rules - for you division.
8. All players will bat. The entire Roster is to be listed on the Batters Lineup Card, and must bat in the order the names are listed, unless injury dictates otherwise. Courtesy runner for the Catchers only if there are two out. Runner is the last one out.
9. Teams are allowed unlimited substitution, with the exception of pitchers who are removed from the pitching position cannot return to that position later in the same game.
10. Coaches and Managers are responsible for the behavior and conduct of players, team officials, and team supporters/parents at all times. Both on and off the field of play. If the Umpire or SGMBA official (Tournament Director) requests your help in resolving a situation - you are to co-operate to the best of your ability.
11. Protests or Grievances are to be made within ½ hour of completion of the game being protested or grieved. $100.00 cash must accompany the protest, and be presented to the Tournament Director, who will forward the information to the grievance committee. The $100.00 will only be refunded if the protest or grievance is successful.
12. At the end of round robin play the playoff or finalists will be determined. In the event of ties, the Tournament Director will provide the tie breaking formulas to be used.
13. All decisions made by the Spruce Grove Sox Invitational Officials, or their designates will be final.
14. The Spruce Grove Minor Ball Association, Spruce Grove Sox Invitational Tournament Officials, or Tournament Volunteers, will not be held responsible for and will not be liable for any injuries to players or persons on or off the field.
TIE BREAKER RULES: (this will be the formula in most cases)
A:) IN THE EVENT OF TIES… at end of round robin play
TOTAL RUNS FOR LESS RUNS AGAINST = VALUE (HIGHEST VALUE ADVANCES) If a tie still exists
TEAM WITH TOTAL LEAST RUNS AGAINST ADVANCES If a tie still exists
TEAM WITH MOST TOTAL RUNS FOR ADVANCES
If a tie still exists The Tournament Director, or his/her designate will decide highest standing by a coin toss, with the team furthest from Spruce Grove making the call.
