The Scholastic Banquet for SEMPWFL is the league's premier showcase of our scholastic values and mission. This year we are proud to announce that it was sponsored in part by a grant from the Detroit Lions. We had a total of 495 people attend; 285 were scholars who were recognized. All scholars received medals in accordance to their GPA category. This year for our 34 First teamers (4.0), each of them received South East Michigan Pop Warner jackets with their names embroidered on them along with the Pop Warner patch and our logo name. They also received Lamp of Learning trophies. Our guest speaker Lem Barney gave an uplifting and motivational speech directed at our scholars and their parents. Although all program books containing color photos of our scholars along with a brief pictures were plentiful, the demand for them was greater. Back orders for program books are being taken at this time. Please place your order through email with the Scholastic Coordinator Denise Hardaway dhardway0593@comcast.net . It was a grand day as we had a few dignitaries in the audience. The grand finale of the afternoon was the awarding of two $500 scholarships to the top senior scholar boy and girl: athletes: Micko Leath and Chardonnay Golson. The scholar ship is in the name of John Johnson (founder of the league) and Denise Hardaway (scholastic Coordinator of the league). The scholarship will be held in a Pop Warner escrow account until the child graduates from high school and chooses a college to attend. In addition to the ambiance of the balloon decoration; photography, music and food, it turned out to be a grand afternoon.
Many thanks to the volunteer associations that donated 55 gift cards (in denominations of $25 and $50) the our random giveaway and to the association scholastic coordinators for helping to plan and make this event a success.
Also a big thanks goes out to the Detroit Lions; Lem Barney, Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee; DeCarlo's Banquet Hall & Center, Harris productions for the sound equipment and music, Marcus Calloway photography’s, League Active.Com for rsvp and registration processing.
