Suffolk County Boy's Soccer Coaches Association: Welcome
|
The
SUFFOLK COUNTY SOCCER COACHES ASSOCIATION
represents Boy's High School Soccer on eastern Long Island in New York State.
To follow the New York State Public High School Athletic Association system,
Suffolk County Boy's Soccer will play under the "5 classification" format.
2012 Classifications...
There will be 59 High Schools playing soccer this year...
Class-AA = 32 teams
Class-A = 13 teams
Class-B = 6 teams
Class-C = 6 teams
Class-D = 2 teams
2012 League Structure...
The 59 High Schools will be placed into eight leagues...
League-1... 8 Class-AA teams
Brentwood, Longwood, Wm. Floyd, Patchogue/Medford, Commack, Ward Melville, Sachem East & Sachem North
League-2... 7 Class-AA teams

(Please be advised that Section-XI does not allow a league of less than 7 teams)
Suffolk County Soccer Playoffs...
Suffolk County will crown eight League Champions. Those teams, plus any
team that completes at least a .500% league season will enter the Suffolk
County playoffs. If a team plays in a mixed classification league and doesn't
get a .500% league season they can "petition" Section-XI to get into the
playoffs if their losses were to the higher classification teams.
A Section-XI committee would make that decidion. Once the playoff teams
are determined... each team competes within their classification.
Suffolk County Class Championships...
As the playoffs conclude, 5 Suffolk County Champions will be crowned.
One Class 'AA' Champion, one Class 'A' Champion, one Class 'B' Champion,
one Class 'C' Champion and one Class 'D' Champion.
Within each Classification, there must be at least 2 teams qualify for the
playoffs before a Suffolk County Class Championship would be played. If
only one team qualifies, that team would represent Suffolk County in the
New York State soccer tournament as a "qualifier". That team would not
be considered a Suffolk County Class Champion because there was no
championship game played.
New York State Soccer Playoffs...
The 5 Class Champions will then represent Suffolk County in the New York
State Boys' Soccer Championships. That playoff system ends when 5 New
York State Class Champions are crowned.
In January, the NYS classification numbers may be re-adjusted for the 2011
fall soccer season.
2012 New York State Classification Numbers
Class-AA = 925 or more students
Class-A = 525 and 924 students
Class-B = 305 and 524 students
Class-C = 175 and 304 students
Class-D = 174 or less students

| Section-XI Rules & Safety |
With the possibility of thunderstorms in the forecast, below is a reminder of the Section XI Thunder and Lightning Policy. If you have any questions, please let us know.
1. Whenever weather or other conditions cause the official(s) to interrupt a contest, the official(s) shall make every reasonable effort to resume and complete the contest, with full consideration of the weather and site conditions (as they affect safety and playing conditions). The official(s) shall wait a minimum of 30 minutes from the time of the interruption before considering the cessation of play.
2. When thunder is identified at the site of an outdoor contest, the official(s) will suspend play immediately and wait a minimum of 30 minutes from the time of the interruption before considering the cessation of play. The official(s) will then make a decision whether to cease play for that day or resume the contest.
3. If lightning is observed at the site of an outdoor contest by the official(s) 15 or fewer minutes prior to the scheduled start of that contest, the official(s) and the responsible school authorities shall not permit that contest to be played on that date.
4. If lightning is observed at the site of an outdoor contest by the official(s) during the playing of the contest, the official(s) shall immediately cease play for the day. The rules of the particular sport shall determine whether the contest is "official" or must be resumed at a later date.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS GOING INTO THE 2012 SEASON
New York State Referee's Meeting * August 2012
Uniforms -
Apparently, with the 2013 change that home shirts must be completely white,
New York State is looking into giving schools who can justify financial hardship
a waiver on the rule.
JANUARY 22, 2012
All NYS teams have been granted a 3 years WAIVER on this rule.
The WAIVER will expire after the 2015 season.
However, WHITE SOX for the home team will be mandatory.
The visiting team must wear a contrasting darker color.
KEEPER JERSEY'S
Keeper's need to have a # on their jersey this season.
The number must be different from all the numbers you use for your field players.
You can't have a #1 field player and a keeper that has the #1
Jewelry -
NOT ALLOWED even if a player just got his ears pierced that day.
NO TAPE covering any jewelry is allowed.
That includes plugs to fill large holes in the ear. It is considered jewelry.
Jewelry also includes string wrist bands.
Bottom line... No jewelry and No tape covering jewelry !
Goals -
Problems are occurring on fields that are used for football and soccer.
The soccer goals are being lined up with the football crossbar.
Please try to avoid this situation.
Some cases can be avoided on fields that are not permanently marked.
Schools should shorten the soccer field by a couple of yards.
Some schools take the easy way out by using the same goal/boundary line for both sports.
That is not recommended.
