URBANA BLUE KNIGHTS FALL TO PRIDE AT GRADY'S FIELD

By Brendan Loiacono

The Sinclair Tartan Pride got the best of Urbana University in an 8-1 victory at Athletes in Action on Tuesday. Freshman hurler Mason Bach toed the rubber for The Pride. Bach cruised through six dominate innings, surrendering just one lonely run on seven hits and walking one while striking out two. Joshua Shea came in from the pen in the seventh inning and tossed two scoreless frames without giving up a run. Scott Haag also pitched a brilliant ninth inning, striking out the side in order to end the game.

Sinclair's offense was excellent as well, scoring one in the first inning, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and another three in the eighth. The first run for Sinclair was off a Austin Downing RBI single which scored Jon Lowe. Tyler Raymond scored in the fourth inning when Dustin Cottrell singled to left field with two outs. Tartan catcher Lance Straley homered with one out in the fifth to make the lead 3-0 and later that same half inning, with two away, sophomore Matt Sullivan drove home Lowe and Drew Williams with a line drive to centerfield for a single, making it 5-0. Urbana responded in the top of the sixth with a one out sacrifice fly off of Bach, which resulted in their only run of the day. Before Scott Haag slammed the door shut in the top of the ninth inning, Lowe drove the dagger deeper into the heart of the Blue Knights with a two out double in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded scoring three runs. The 8-1 lead Sinclair had set itself proved to be too much for the Knights to overcome with just three outs to spare, leaving them defeated at Grady’s Field.
