Friday, May 13
Game 1
Muskegon got on the board in the first with a three run homerun and never trailed the rest of the game. After that pitch, Austin Pressly cruised through the next five innings without allowing a run. The Sinclair offense was in a funk all day and struggled against Muskegon's left handed ace. Prior to the 7th, the offense had two hits and Cale Marker's solo shot in the 3rd, was the only run scored. Muskegon scored one in the top of the 7th on a two out hit and extended their lead to 4-1. Sinclair made things interesting though in the bottom half, scoring twice, and leaving the tying run on at 3rd and the go ahead run at 1st. In the end, three hits wasn't enough to win game one.
Final Score: Muskegon 4 Sinclair 3
Offensive Leaders: Cale Marker 1-3 HR, Chas Harper 1-3, Brandon Napier 1-2 BB.
Game 2
Facing elimination, the Pride called on Jeremiah Kerns in game two to keep the dream alive. Kerns answered and threw a complete game shutout, only allowing three hits and striking out ten. The bats were cold again for the Pride who only scored one run on a Byron Johann base hit to right in the 2nd.
Final Score: Sinclair 1 Jackson 0
Offensive Leaders: Steve Buglione 1-3, Marcus Heath 1-3, Kyle Vander Ark 1-3 2B, Byron Johann 1-2 RBI. Chas Harper 1-2.

The Tartan Pride will head to Battle Creek Michigan this weekend for the Region 12 Tournament. This will be their 6th straight appearance in the regional, and 24th in program history.
Once again the Pride will open with Muskegon CC, who they have faced in the past two opening games. Hoping to regain the magic in 2009 where they finished runner-up, Sinclair will call upon Austin Pressly to pitch in game one. Pressly has had a great season and was dominate in conference play only allowing two earned runs in twenty-nine innings pitched. Pressly also hasn't lost a game since March 25th and carries a 6-1 record overall.
Game two starter will be 2010 OCCAC Pitcher of the Year, Jeremiah Kerns. Kerns has been a work horse for the Pride and is known to be a big game pitcher. The tournament bracket can be found on http://www.mccaa.org/regionxiibaseballtourn.htm and you can follow live games on Game Changer http://www.gamechanger.io/t/spring-2011/sinclair-cc-194668.

The last two OCCAC Conference Championships were won on the field that day. However, this season, weather created a wild finish all the way to the last day.. Sinclair finished the season at 11-5 in the conference and overcame many obstacles that were out of their control. Finishing their conference games on Sunday, the Pride had to wait for everyone else to finish their seasons, to find out their fate.
On Monday, Owens (Who was eliminated based on Head-to-Head with Sinclair) hosted Cuyahoga for the first doubleheader and won both games. Those two loses would eliminate Cuyahoga from the championship race. Tuesday's games were rained out which meant that everything would come down to Wednesday. On Wednesday Owens traveled to Lakeland and once again helped out the Pride by defeating Lakeland in the first game of their doubleheader. That loss gives Lakeland five and Sinclair holds the tiebreaker.
The Pride found out the news after Wednesday's practice and the celebration was on. Sinclair will now head to their 6th straight regional tournament next week. ROLL PRIDE!
Monday, May 2
The record amount of rain this spring continued Monday at Athletes in Action as Heidelberg came into town for a doubleheader. With the weather turning sour, the teams were only able to get one game in. The Heidelberg offense came ready to play as they exploded for eight runs in the first two innings off Pride starter Corey Johnson. Ian Creager could not stop the bleeding either as he allowed four more in the 3rd. The only offense production the Pride could get all day came off the bat of Kyle Vander Ark, who hit a two run blast in the 3rd.
Final Score: Heidelberg 12 Sinclair 2
LP: Johnson 4-2
Offensive Leaders: Kyle Vander Ark 2-2 BB HR 2 RBI's, Marcus Heath 2-3 RS.

Austin Pressly picked up another CG win in Game 2.
After dropping two one run games in Cleveland on Saturday, the Pride came back home to Grady's field for two must win games.
Jeremiah Kerns started in the first game and got into trouble early with a two out walk. Four hits later, Lakeland jumped to a 3-0 lead. That lead wouldn't last long though as shortstop Brandon Napier launched his 5th homerun of the season, of the three run variety, to tie the game at three. The Sinclair offense added four more runs in the 2nd on a two run bomb from Chayse Hood and a two out double from Kyle Vander Ark that scored two. The 7-3 lead would stand until the bottom of the 5th when the Pride took advantage of five walks from Laker pitching and plated six, highlighted by a Marcus Heath double in the gap.
Final Score: Sinclair 13 Lakeland 3

The Pride's hottest pitcher as of late, Austin Pressly took the mound in game two. Pressly threw a complete game shutout earlier in the week against Owens and was undefeated in conference play heading into Sunday. The Laker offense started off strong again scoring two runs in the first after yet another two out walk. In almost a repeat of the previous game, the Pride answered with another Brandon Napier three run jack to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the second, Joe Ford knocked in two more runs for the Pride on a line drive up the middle. That 5-2 lead would hold for the rest of the game as Austin Pressly did not allow another hit.

Chas Harper hit his 2nd and 3rd Homerun of the Season in Game 2
Game 1
The Sinclair Owens Rivalry was renewed for the second time this season but this time they crossed the border into Michigan. With heavy rain across Ohio and Michigan, the games were played on turf at Adrian College.
The Pride started the scoring off in the 1st on a two out single from Kyle Vander Ark scoring Marcus Heath. The offense kept things rolling in the 3rd, with another two out RBI, this time from Brandon Napier. With Napier on base, Byron Johann launched his 2nd homerun of the season increasing the lead to 4-0. Two more runs were added in the 4th and the lead was now 6-0 heading into the bottom of the inning. Starting pitcher Jeremiah Kerns did a great job keeping the Express bats in check for the first three innings but would run into trouble in the 4th. A leadoff homer and a pair of doubles helped the Express cut the lead in half. Sinclair would add on in the 6th inning and carried a 7-3 lead into the final inning. Kerns started the inning off when a groundout to 3rd, but was pulled after allowing a 0-2 hit to the leadoff hitter. Pride starter Christian McElroy came into the game in a unfamiliar role and struggled with control. The Owens offense took advantage and within a couple of minutes, we had a one run game. Closer Matt Addis entered the game with bases loaded and one out and on a 0-1 pitch, he threw a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
Final Score: Sinclair 7 Owens 6
WP: Jeremiah Kerns 5-1 SV: Matt Addis (5)
Offensive Leaders: Steve Buglione 2-4 2 2B's 2 RBI's, Marcus Heath 2-4 RBI, Brandon Napier 2-3 2B 2 RBI's.
Game 2
The Pride offense took control of the second game early and starter Austin Pressly was dealing. Sinclair scored in every inning but the first and put up six runs in the 2nd off the Owens starter. Pressly didn't allow a hit until the 5th inning when he was touched up for a leadoff double off the wall. That runner did not score though as Austin set the next three batters down while striking out two.
Final Score: Sinclair 10 Owens 0
WP: Austin Pressly 5-1
Offensive Leaders: Joe Ford 0-0 3 BB's, Marcus Heath 2-4 2 RS, Chas Harper 2-3 2 RS 2 HR's (2, 3) 4 RBI's.
With the sweep, Sinclair improves to 29-12 on the season and is 9-3 in the OCCAC. The Pride will play a four game series this weekend against Lakeland with the OCCAC Title on the line.

Game 2 (Written by Pride Closer Matt Addis)
With a chance to win the series and sit alone on top of the conference standings, the Pride once again took on Tri-C. The game was scoreless until the Pride plated a run in the top of the 3rd. After back-to-back strikeouts to start off the inning, Steve Buglione singled, as did Joe Ford, which brought the Pride's hottest hitter to the plate, Marcus Heath. On a 3-1 count, Heath scorched a line drive to center scoring Buglione and giving the Tartans a 1-0 lead. Sinclair scored again in the top of the 4th when Napier scored on a bullet up the middle off the bat of Sophomore Byron Johann. Through 4 1/2, the Pride led 2-0. Starter Alex Kimsey dominated Cuyahoga hitters through three, but ran into a little trouble in the 4th, thanks to a few mental mistakes by the Pride defense. Tri-C was able to plate three runs in the bottom half of the 4th to take a 3-2 lead. The Sinclair bats were blanked in the 5th but Kimsey answered by putting up another zero. In the top of the 6th, Brandon Napier go things started with a one out single. Napier stole second and advanced to third on a wild throw from the catcher. With the infield in, Jeremiah Kerns singled in Napier on a groundball thought the left side of the infield to tie the game at three. Cuyahoga answered and scored in the bottom half on a two out dropped fly ball to take a 4-3 lead heading into the 7th. Sinclair's leader hitter in the inning struck out but was picked up by Buglione, who ripped a single into right. "Boogs" stole second base on a 2-2 count and was there in plenty of time as Ford struck out on a ball in the dirt. With 1st base open and Heath coming to the plate, Cuyahoga elected to intentionally walk the Pride's three hitter. This brought Freshmen Kyle Vander Ark to the plate. After falling behind in the count 0-2, Vander Ark laced a fastball between 1st and 2nd scoring Buglione to tie the game. This was followed by another Napier single that scored heath, and a Kerns double that plated two more runs, increasing Sinclair's lead to 7-4. In the bottom of the 7th, Pride closer Matt Addis made the game interesting by loading the bases up with one out. Addis retired the next batter on a weak pop out to 3rd and strikeout the final batter to end the game.

Game 1
The 2011 edition of the Sinclair/Owens rivalry started off great for the Pride. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Pride scored first with a two-out double off the wall from Brandon Branigan scoring Joe Ford and Chas Harper. Owens would answer in a big way though in the top of the 3rd off Jeremiah Kerns. A leadoff walk started things and after a strikeout looking, the number nine batter Austin Gunn singled to turn the lineup over. Gunn would give the Pride pitchers trouble all day reaching base in every AB. Kerns struck out Solomon but with two-outs gave up a three run jack to second basemen Joe Sickler that gave Owens the lead. The Express would score two more unearned runs in the inning after a dropped fly ball in right. Trailing 5-2, Sinclair scored one in the 3rd to cut the lead to two. That score would remain until the bats exploded in the 4th for six runs. The inning was highlighted by a Marcus Heath triple that plated two (he also scored on an error) and a Brandon Napier two-run blast, all with two outs. Napier homered again in the 6th to secure the victory.
Final Score: Sinclair 11 Owens 6

Game 2
The second game of the DH would start like the first game. Sinclair scored two in the first taking the early lead again. Owens took advantage of starter Christian McElroy's early control problems and plated one in the 2nd and three more in the 4th. Heading into the top of the 6th inning, McElroy retired the leadoff hitter and got a flyball to centerfield that turned into a nightmare for the Pride. With the leftfielder and centerfielder breaking on the ball, poor communication led to a dropped fly ball that rolled to the fence scoring the batter. Owens starter Zak Esposito settled down after a rough 1st and was dominate for the next three innings. After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th, he gave up two singles to Napier and Branigan in the bottom of the 6th and left the game with a 5-2 lead. A fielders choice gone bad and a error on the catcher plated two runs and leadoff hitter Steve Buglione stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and down by one. Buglione hit a groundball to 1st but Harper was out at the plate and still bases were loaded. Freshmen second basemen Joe Ford delivered the big RBI single up the middle to tie the game at five. Marcus Heath, who had a huge day, came through again for the Pride with a 2-RBI double to left. Austin Pressly came on in the 7th to record the final three outs and pick up his first save of the season.

Saturday, April 9
The worst season of weather in recent years continues with another rainout on a weekend. The Pride have now only played two full weekends of games out of seven (And one was in the South). DH tomorrow at home will still be played with the first pitch be thrown at 1:00.
Friday, April 8
Baseball had to hold on at UC-Clermont Thursday to bring home a 6-5 extra innings victory.
Marcus Heath (Badger H.S./Burghill, OH) got the scoring started in the top of the 3rd as he roped a double into left field to take the lead 2-0. After giving back a run in the bottom half of the inning, Kyle Vander Ark (Forest Hills Central H.S./Grand Rapids, MI) doubled in 2 of the 3 runs the Pride would score in the top of 5th to push the Sinclair lead out to 5-1.
The Cougars would push the Sinclair bullpen to the limits as they scored 2 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th and 8th innings to tie the game. After a scoreless 9th, the score would remain the same until the top of the 11th. Steve Buglione (Milford H.S./Highland, MI) would get the game winning RBI with a 1 out single in the 11th.
Coming in out of the bullpen, Roy Wysong (Twin Valley South H.S./W. Alexandria, OH) closed out the game with 2 perfect innings to record his first collegiate win.

Game 1
Ashland starter Vince Frate dominated the Pride offense only allowing three hits and walking one in a complete game performance. On the other side, Alex Kimsey threw well striking out 8 in 5.1 but was pulled in the 6th leaving two runners on base. Brandon Branigan relieved Kimsey and allowed both runs to score in the inning and Ashland extended their lead to 3-0. That lead would hold as Sinclair had no answer at the plate.

Game 2
The second game started like the first with Ashland pitching putting up zero's. Trailing 4-0 in the 3rd, the Pride offense finally got on the board with a bang. Chayse Hood tripled in three and Marcus Heath doubled in Hood to tie the game at 4. The game would stay tied until the 5th inning when starter Corey Johnson left the game with runners at the corners and no outs. Reliever Roy Wysong came in to face the lefty and after a HBP, allowed a single and a walk before he exited the game. Marcus Heath had no luck either and Ashland poured on eight runs total in the inning. In the bottom half, the offense didn't quit and had bases loaded with one out. After a Jeremiah Kerns strikeout, Byron Johann hit a groundball to the shortstop that would have ended the inning but a Brandon Napier hustle play to second base extended the inning allowing four runs to score. Joe Ford and David Moss both collected RBI hits to cut the lead to 12-8. In the end, it wasn't enough and the Pride dropped their third in a row.

Game 1
For the first time all season Jeremiah Kerns battled control issues for the Pride. Poor defense behind him didn't help either but he was able fight through four innings leaving the game trailing 5-0. The offense started the comeback by scoring three in the bottom of the 4th and then cut the lead down to one in the 5th with a Marcus Heath solo homerun. Cuyahoga's offense was keep in check by Austin Pressly who kept putting zero's on the board giving his team a chance to win. In the 7th, still trailing by a run, Jeremiah Kerns delivered his first homerun of the season to tie the game at five. After Pressly pitched another scoreless inning in the 8th, Marcus Heath once again went deep for a two-out walk-off homerun to win the game.

After walking a run in the 2nd, he settled down and threw three scoreless innings while only throwing 30 pitches and not allowing a base runner. In the top of the 6th the Pride brought in closer Matt Addis in a 1-1 game. Addis fell behind 2-0 to the leadoff hitter Kane who laced a line drive to dead center just out of the reach of a leaping Chas Harper. With Harper on the ground, Kane was able to run around all the bases scoring a inside the park homerun. Addis allowed three more runs on three more hits and Cuyahoga extended their lead to 5-1. Sunday, March 13
In the earliest start time of the year (9:38am), Sinclair took on NKU's JV team at Marge Schott Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati. The Pride got on the board in the 1st when Brandon Napier scored on a two out double from Marcus Heath. The offense added two more runs when Chayse Hood reached on a error in the 3rd scoring two. Jeremiah Kerns was cruising through the game until the top of the 4th. After giving up a leadoff double, the next batter hit a ball in the rightcenter gap that fell between both outfielders, giving the Norse runners on the 2nd and 3rd. Kerns settled back in and threw a groundball to Napier that held the runner at 3rd. With one out, a flyball to centerfield looked like it would be caught, but was lost in the sun and the batter ended up on 3rd. Then a base hit to right tied the game at three. Kerns pitched a scoreless 5th and the offense put him inline for the win with three runs in the bottom half from a Byron Johann RBI single and Chas Harper homerun to right. Christian McElroy relieved Kerns and didn't allow a run until the 7th when the lead was cut to 6-4. In the bottom half, Sinclair took advantage of a few defensive miscues and scored four runs to increase their lead. The Norse bats battled back in the top of the 9th and closer Matt Addis entered the game with bases loaded and one out. After giving up a double, Addis threw two groundball outs to David Moss at 3rd to end the game.
Final Score: Sinclair 11 NKU JV 9

Once again battling the elements, Sinclair took on Northwestern Ohio in a single game at Grady's Field. Game time temperature was 35 and Pride Freshmen Jared Bourelle made his first start of the season. Bourelle scattered five hits in three innings of work and left the game with a 6-1 lead. The lead was nearly gone in the top of the inning as UNOH scored four and had the tying run trip and fall on his way to home plate. Sinclair responded in the bottom of the 5th with two more runs increasing their lead to 8-5. Freshmen Ian Creager pitched three scoreless innings to get the win and the game was called after the top half of the 7th due to weather.

On Thursday, the temperature is dropping fast and what was once a double-header will now be a single nine-inning game. First pitch against University of Northwestern Ohio will be at 3:30.
Sunday, March 6
On a day that stayed in the 30's and felt like it was in the 20's, the Pride took on regional foe Glen Oaks in a double header.
Sophomore Jeremiah Kerns got the start for the Tartans and pitched a gem. The offenses for both teams were cold like the weather and the only run of the game was scored in the 4th inning. First basemen Kyle Vander Ark led off the inning with a triple and Chayse Hood knocked him in with a sac fly to center. Neither team would score again and Kerns took a no-hitter into the 7th inning. After hitting the first batter of the inning, Kerns got a double-play groundball to 3rd to move one out away from the no-no. In the end, it wasn't meant to be and the next batter smacked a line drive single up the middle. Pride closer Matt Addis came into finish the game with a strikeout and record his second save of the season.
Final Score: Sinclair 1 Glen Oaks 0
WP: Kerns 1-0 SV: Addis (2)
Offensive Leaders: Cale Marker 2-3, Chayse Hood 1-2 RBI, Kyle Vander Ark 1-3 RS 3B.
In game two, Austin Pressly took on former Lakeland CC starter Josh Vandermark. The Pride got on the board early with a passed ball and a RBI single from Marcus Heath. After another run in the 2nd, Sinclair led 3-0 heading into the 3rd. Pressly found himself in trouble after giving up two one out walks. A double in the gap and a few infield singles tied the game at three. In the 4th, Glen Oaks took their first lead of the day scoring on a two out passed ball. That run was unearned and Pressly's finished the inning down by one. The Pride offense responded in the bottom half with two runs putting Pressly in line for the win. The inning was highlighted by a two out RBI double to left by Brandon Napier. Christian McElroy threw the final three innings without allowing one hit and striking out five. With the win the Pride improve to 4-0 on the young season.

Corey Johnson tossed 3 innings only allowing one unearned run.
For the second time in as many days, the Pride found themselves trailing early. Miami-Hamilton's centerfielder led off the inning by reaching on a infield error and then scored on a double from the next hitter off starter Alex Kimsey. Kimsey would allow another run and Hamilton carried a 2-0 lead into the 3rd inning. In the bottom half of the 3rd, shortstop Brandon Napier and DH Marcus Heath each collected two-out RBI singles to tie the game at two. Trading single runs in the bottom of the 4th and in the top of the 5th, the game was tied again heading into the bottom half of the 5th. With one out and runners at the corners, Chas Harper executed a perfect safety squeeze that scored the runner and he was safe at 1st. After that play, the Sinclair offense took advantage of a few defensive miscues and had another pair of RBI singles to extend the score to 8-3. Freshmen Corey Johnson threw the three previous innings and was now in line for the win. Hamilton scored a pair in the 6th to cut the lead, but Sinclair put the game away with another big inning in the 7th, Marcus Heath added another single that scored two and Kyle Vander Ark doubled in the gap for his first career hit scoring Napier. Sinclair opened the 2011 season with an 8-5 victory over Urbana University Tuesday night. In the bottom of the first, leadoff hitter Steve Buglione singled and stole second base before scoring on Byron Johann's double. The Pride did not score again until the fourth inning when Brandon Napier tripled in the gap of Grady's Field, and Marcus Heath followed with an RBI double to make it a 4-2 contest in favor of Urbana. Sinclair closed that gap in the fifth when Buglione hit his first career collegiate homerun, a leadoff blast over the right field fence to make it 4-3. Trailing 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, Marcus Heath tied things up with his first collegiate homerun and would take the lead later in the inning by way of a Chas Harper RBI double. Sinclair Community College Head Coach Steve Dintaman has announced the schedule for the 2011 season, which will be his 4th season at the helm of the Tartan Pride. "Every year we try and schedule games against some of the best programs in the country," Dintaman said. "This season we have four preseason ranked opponents on the schedule and will once again play the National Champions from last season. I'm also excited about playing 31 home games at Grady's Field, where we have a .850 winning percentage in the past two seasons. This schedule will get us prepared for our Conference title defense and to make a run in the Regional."
Last season, Sinclair finished with a 42-10 record and were ranked as high as 5th in the NJCAA Poll. For the second consecutive season, the Tartan Pride won the OCCAC Conference Tournament, giving them an automatic bid to the Regional. In the past ten seasons, Sinclair has won six OCCAC Championships and have been to the Regional’s seven times.
Sinclair will begin their season with two local colleges coming to AIA for midweek games during the first week of March. That weekend, familiar foes come to town in Genesee CC (NY) & Glen Oaks CC (MI) for the 3rd Annual Coach Jim Harrison Memorial Tournament. “Genesee made it to their Regional final last year and Glen Oaks is in our Region,” said Dintaman. “Last year’s games with Genesee both went to extra innings and Coach Sherman's team already won their fall Conference Championship. Glen Oaks has been very close to making the Regional in the last couple years and should be in the mix again."
The next weekend Sinclair will travel to Keyser, West Virginia for the third straight year to play #16 Potomac State. “Keyser is one of my favorite trips of the season. PSC is very well coached and every year Coach Little has them in the hunt for a World Series berth.”
The Pride will follow up the weekend trip by heading home to take on their Regional nemesis #14 Kellogg CC. Kellogg has knocked Sinclair out of the Regional in three out of the last four seasons. Another Regional opponent Macomb, will come down at the beginning of Spring Break for a DH.
Later in the week, Sinclair travels down to Eunice, Louisiana for a series against the 2010 National Champion #3 LSU-Eunice. “We’re very excited about the opportunity to play against Eunice who every year finds its way into the National Title picture. They’ve averaged 50 win seasons in the last five years and have won three National Championships.”
The last series before conference play begins is against 2010 Regional Champion #11 Vincennes University. Last season the Pride swept Vincennes in the regular season but these games are always battles. The Pride start at Vincennes in late March and will host them in Mid-April.
Conference play opens up once again with Cuyahoga CC. “Tri-C is improving every year and this is the best team that Coach Zofka has had. We’ve recruited a few of his players so we know they have talent.” The second conference series is against rival Owens CC. “The Sinclair Owens Rivalry is the best in the conference. We’ve had players transfer there, they’ve recruited kids from the Dayton area, these are some of my favorite games of the year.” The conference finishes up with games against Lorain CC and Lakeland CC. There is no conference tournament this season. The winner of the regular season will gain an automatic bid to the Regional in Battle Creek and the loser will have to play in the Sub-Region with Vincennes.
The Regional Tournament will be in Mid-May and the winner will go to the World Series in Enid, OK.
“This schedule is the best that we’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Dintaman. I’m looking forward to the opportunities to play such great programs and to once again, compete for championships…Roll Pride!”

Game 1
Pride Starter Jacob Robinson didn't have his best stuff on the mound today. Robinson could not get out of the 3rd inning without help from Pride reliever Chuck Calhoun. After recording an out, Zach Stewart & Justin Marrero both singled. Corey Throckmorton walked setting up bases loaded for Robinson. Robinson hit what appeared to be a game ending double play ball to short but a throwing error plated two for the Pride. Then freshmen shortstop Brandon Napier hit a game winning ground rule double down the right field line.

Awaiting the NJCAA II Baseball Polls today Coach Dintaman felt confident but still uncertain. "We have played a very challenging schedule up to this point," said Dintaman. "Were 20-5 & our five loses all came against very good programs. We lost three out of four at DI #13 Young Harris College, lost in extra innings to Genesee NY and lost to #4 Parkland 5-4. This is a tremendous honor to be ranked in the top 10 but our guys know what our goal is this season. Being ranked will put a target on our guy's backs and I'm looking forward to seeing how they will respond."

In the top of the 7th, Parkland took advantage of a few defensive mistakes and plated four runs, capped off by a triple from their lead-off hitter Kiermaier. The Pride did not go down without a fight though scoring one in the 7th on two hits and knocking out Ollier. Pride started Austin Pressly struggled with control and allowed three earned runs in the 1st three innings. In those innings the Pride would score two runs with two out hits from Zach Stewart. In the 4th, Genesee would score on a two out error by shortstop Marrero. Pressly left the game and Jacob Campbell walked back to back hitters before getting a pop-up to end the inning. Still down by one heading into the bottom of the 6th, Brandon Napier led off with a single. Napier advanced on a wild pitch and then scored on a great two strike single by Clay Ragland to tie the game. The Pride bullpen would shut down the Cougars offense the rest of the game not allowing a run. Calhoun pitched a scoreless 6th & 7th and was lifted for Matt Addis with one out in the 8th. Addis closed the door and sent the game into the bottom of the 8th. Once again Napier started things off with a leadoff double. Ragland then popped up in the infield but the ball was misplayed and dropped. Tom McCowan failed to execute a sacrifice bunt and Napier was thrown out at 3rd. As tradition in the Sinclair Baseball Program, four players have been chosen by their teammates to lead as Captains this season. Sophomore's Arthur Dockery, Erik Lamka, Zach Stewart and Corey Throckmorton.
Dockery had a very promising start for the Pride last year before missing the second half of the season. Since then Doc has made a commitment to the classroom and has earned the respect of this year’s squad. "Doc is a very solid middle infielder and a great team guy. Doesn't matter if he is in or out of the line-up he comes to play and is ready every day." Last year Doc earned the nickname "The Rabbit", for his speed and quickness.
Lamka held the top spot for the Tartan Pride staff last season posting a 7-2 record. A great student, Erik doesn't lead with words, but by his actions. "Donkey is one of the hardest workers in the program and has a strong bulldog mentality on the mound. I'm very proud of his achievements both on the field and in the classroom."
Since his arrival this fall Zach Stewart has made an immediate impact. "It doesn't happen often that a transfer will come in and be voted as a captain. Zach has a strong work ethic and is an outstanding player. I don't think they made a bad choice in Stewart." Stewart will split time in the outfield and infield this season and be a mainstay in the batting line-up.
Finishing up this year’s Captains is 3rd year player Corey Throckmorton. As a freshmen Corey was one of the top hitters in the Region hitting nearly .400. Last year he tore his UCL in the 2nd week of the season and was granted a medical redshirt. "Corey has been with me from the start. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs but in the past three years he has grown up a lot. I expect Corey to have a big year for us both behind the dish and with the bat."

For the first time in School history, Sinclair has four players on Collegiate Baseball’s National Junior College Watch List. Pride Closer Jordan Russell is the only returner to make the list. Last season Jordan was 2nd in the Nation and set a Sinclair school record with 12 saves. The other three players were transfer Justin Marrero (Catcher- NW FL St College), Justin Schultheiss (RHP - University of Cincinnati,), and incoming freshmen Austin Pressly (RHP – 23rd MLB Draft Pick). The Pride will open the season on February 27th at Young Harris College in Georgia. YHC was ranked #4 in last season’s final poll.
Sophomore catcher Justin Marrero has decided to continue his baseball career at Ashland University next season. Ashland is coming off another DII World Series appearance and is one of the top programs in the country. Last season Justin hit over .330 for NW FL ST College with seven homeruns. Justin is expected to lead the Pride this season on and off the field.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League playoffs begin Tuesday at the Home of The Pride, Athletes in Action Stadium. The Pride will be will represented in the playoffs with five former and current players.
The Southern Ohio Copperheads (5th Seed) have four players that are connected to Sinclair. Chad Geier and Trace Fowler have held down the shortstop position at Sinclair for the past four seasons. Geier is in his final season at Indiana Tech and Fowler will have two years at Urbana University. Current Pride members Zach Botjer and Justin Marrero have both had great summers. Botjer is 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA and has struckout 17 batters in 11.1 innings pitched. Marrero finished in the top 3 on the team in batting average (.263) and had nine extra base hits.
John Lydic recently picked up with the Licking County Settlers (4th Seed) and is hitting .412. Lydic is heading to The University of Cincinnati next season.
Monday, August 3
Trace Fowler (Hamilton) has chosen to continue his education and baseball career at Urbana University. Fowler will play for the former Tartan Pride Head Coach Mike Goldschmidt. Fowler started at shortstop for two years for the Pride and was the leader of the infield. In his two years at Sinclair he hit over .320 and started in 97% of all games at short.
John Lydic (Gahanna Lincoln) will continue his career at Ohio Dominican University. After transferring from Kent State, Lydic became the starting catcher and led the team with a .409 batting average. Lydic is the first Sinclair player to transfer on to play at ODU.
We wish both players the best of luck as they continue their careers.

As the All-Star Break nears, another former Sinclair player joins the Southern Ohio Copperheads. Former shortstop Trace Fowler has joined the Copperheads and is expected to arrive in Athens today. Zach Botjer didn't take long to make an impact for the Southern Ohio Copperheads. Getting the call on Tuesday and reporting on Saturday, Botjer came into the game trailing 1-0 in the 6th inning. After striking out the first two hitters that he faced, Botjer gave up a bloop double and hit a batter. With two on and two out he recorded his third strikeout of the inning ending his day on the mound. In the top of the inning the Copperheads would tie the game up at one and had many chances to set up Botjer for the win but could not come through. Southern Ohio would lose the game 2-1 in extra innings. Botjer is not the only Sinclair player playing for the Copperheads this summer. Justin Marrero a incomming transfer plays and so does former Sinclair SS Chad Geier. You can follow these players all summer long on the Copperheads website: http://aspnet.cob.ohiou.edu/copperheads/index.aspx

The Pride extended their season Sunday afternoon by knocking out Vincennes University 5-2 in the losers bracket final. Jacob Robinson turned in his best performance of the year on the mound allowing only two runs in 6 2/3 innings. With two outs, two strikes and a runner on first, Robinson injured his thumb on a slow roller base hit to 3rd base. He was forced to leave the game and Jordan Russell came in to close the door. Russell struck out Kotter to end the game and pick up his Sinclair Baseball record 10th save of the season. Top Offensive Performers: Dan Marsh 2-3 3B, John Lydic 1-2 RBI.
For the first time in school history the Tartan Pride reached the Regional Final and found themsleves taking on Kellogg for the 2nd time in the tournament. With a bunch of tired arms (Six games in three days) the Pride battled and played their hearts out only to fall 10-4. Kellogg will represent Region 12 in the World Series in two weeks. Three Sinclair players made the All-Tournament team this year: Jacob Robinson, Dan Marsh, and Clay Ragland.
The Pride finished the season at 36-12 and OCCAC Conference Champions.

Coming off one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program the Pride are showing no signs of slowing down. "I am very pleased with the group of student-athletes that we have joining us this fall," said Dintaman. "We started recruting pretty hard in the fall and we've done a great job in getting the type of player that we want here at Sinclair. So far this class is made up of seven pitchers and five position players from five states.
