Rules of the SBL

Game Basics

-Two twenty minute halves.

- Running Clock until the final two minutes of the second half.

- Clock does not stop running in the last two minutes of second half if team is up by ten or more points.

- Normal Rules of the NCAA apply unless other wise noted.

- Each game will begin with a jump ball and alternate possessions will be used for the start of each quarter. Each overtime period will start with a jump ball to determine who gets possession of the ball.

- If at the end of regulation both teams are tied, their will be a three minute over time period to the decide the winner. If after the first overtime period the teams are still tied, their will be a one minute overtime period to decide the winner. If after the second overtime period the teams are still tied, the game will go to sudden death. The first team to score will be the winner of the game.

- Each team will be awarded one twenty second timeout and one sixty second timeout for each half. Unused timeouts do not carry over to the second half or any overtime period. In the first overtime period, each team will be awarded one timeout. Each overtime period after that, neither team will be awarded a timeout.

Team Rules

- Each team may have up to twelve players on their roster and there is no substitution limit for players in games.

- A minimum of four players are required to have an official game.

- If a team does not have four players, the team automatically forfeits the game.

- Each team is allowed a maximum of two forfeits a season. Once a team reaches their third forfeit a Fifty dollar fine will be applied if they want to continue to play in the current season.

-Teams are not allowed to pickup players who are not on the official roster, unless they are approved by the other teams captains.

-Teams must submit a full team roster and these players on the team roster are only allowed to play.

- If team is caught with unofficial players who have not been approved by the other team's captain. The team will forfeit all games that the unofficial player has played in.

- Each player is allowed five personal fouls until they are disqualified from the game.

- Each player is allowed 2 technical fouls until they are disqualified from the game.

- If a signal technical foul is given to player, the other team will shoot two technical foul shots. If a double technical is given, neither team will shoot free throws.

- If a player is given a flagrant foul, the other team will get two free throws plus possession of the ball. If a player is given a flagrant two foul, they will immediately be ejected from the game.

- A player who is ejected more than once in a season due to technical fouls may be suspended for one league game pending Commissioner approval.

- On the seventh team foul of the half, the player who was fouled is awarded a one and one. On the tenth team foul of the half, the player who was fouled is awarded two free throws.

SBL League Policies

- Dunking is allowed in all leagues, but any hanging on the rim unless to protect your safety will result in a technical foul.

- Each team will receive a five minute warm up period before the game.

- Their will be a five minute break between half time and the start of the second half.

- Referees have the power to remove any player from the game and facility if deemed necessary.

- All players must sign the waiver to be eligible to play in the upcoming season. No player will be allowed to play until a waiver is signed.

- Each season a player must sign a new waiver to be eligible to play.

- Their will be two weeks of playoffs, with the top four teams from the regular season advancing to the playoffs. Seeding will be determined by win percentage. If there is a tie in win percentage, then the seeding will be determined by the head to head match-up.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct

- Any conduct that is deemed unacceptable by staff or referees may result in suspension or ejection from the league. Any abuse of officials, or anyone taking part in the league will not be tolerated and may result in suspension or ejection from the league.

- Any fighting will result in immediate ejection from the game and the league for the rest of the season.

Cancellation of Games

- If a game is to be canceled due to weather, faculty constraints, or dangerous fields each team captain/coach will be notified by text or email. Its is the teams captain or coaches responsibility to notify all of their players of the cancellation. Canceled games will be made up during the end of the season if time is allowed. The SBL retains the right to run a shortened season in extreme circumstances. The SBL also reserves the right to schedule a game other than the regular scheduled night to make up games.
