Fernanda Rodriguez Advances to CIF Finals
Inclement weather forced CIF to go to a rain course
for the Cross Country Pre Lims.
Last year the finals were run on the rain course, which measured (5.1K);
a little to long. This year the
course was shortened to (2.91m).
As a result the times were very fast, no hills, and not usable for
record purposes. For a team to
qualify it must be in the top five of their heat and or the next fastest team
to make 16 teams in the finals.
For an Individual to qualify, they must place in the top eight. Rubidoux’s Fernanda Rodriguez qualified
again this year, as a sophomore, placing in 7th place. It was hard to determine whether her
time was better than last years but she did look faster and was in the fastest
race. The girls team was unable to
advance however with all underclassman in their top five varsity, next year
could be something to look forward to.

High Desert Classic Machris Park, Yucca Valley
Fernanda Daylights Prestigious Field
Fernanda Rodriguez, Sensational Rubidoux
sophomore, polished off a prestigious field of runners including Tejada the
Sunkist League champion and various top runners from the De Anza and San
Andreas Leagues in the 17th High Desert Classic. This was the second win in four days;
Rodriguez also won the Mountain Valley on Thursday. Last year as a freshman she was the Mountain Valley League
champion and it looks like there are few runners around to run with her again
this year. Unfortunately the falcons were missing one of their top runners who
was at a wedding otherwise the team would have dominated the varsity girls
race. It turned out to be the closest race of the day having teams separated by
only a few points. Rubidoux ended up third. Rubidoux was the varsity boys
returning champion from 2010. This
year Norte Vista and Yucca Valley were ready for them as they bested the
falcons who fell to third place.
Angel Perez, Rubidoux’s number one has been off his game this year, sore
knee, and the competing teams took advantage as Rubidoux ran to a third place
finish. On the bright side the
frosh boys ran a magnificent race winning their division over Norte Vista and
Corona. Freshman Pedro Sandoval,
Moises Garcia and Adrian Coranza continue to improve and look to be the next wave of Falcon excellence. The falcons will rest next week in
preparation for the Inland Empire Invitational at Glen Helen park

Mt. Carmel Invitational
"Running with the Big Dogs"
Coach
Chan decided this year, knowing the quality of the team , to venture south and try some San Diego and out of state
teams. What he didn’t realize was
that many of the top teams from the Riverside area had the same idea. Many of these teams are ranked in state
in Division 1 and 2; Rubidoux is a division 3 team. In the cool San Diego climate the races were fast and
furious. Having to travel 2 hours,
running an unfamiliar course and placed in Division 1 were not all factors in
the best interest of the falcons however they gallantly ran their races and
showed their stuff. The girl’s team is slowly improving as Freshman Lizette
Eniriquez is getting better every race.
Eniriquez had the second best time for the lady falcons. Fernanda Rodriguez, Rubidoux’s number one,
placed in the top ten for all sophomores who ran Saturday and had the top time
for the falcons. Junior Esbeidi Ochoa and frosh Jacqueline Albin are improving,
and getting better. They could be major
factors in the Falcons quest for another league title. How well the team does will looks like it will come down to the
5th varsity member, also known as the “Golden Anchor”. Rubidoux next week travels to Rim of
the World for the first Mt. Valley League cluster meet of the year. As last year Rubidoux is heavily
favored however teams from Jurupa Hills and Citrus Valley have improved and
will present legimate challenges this year.

Fernanda Wins Fastback Again!
Sophomore Fernanda Rodriguez made it two in a row
as she again won her race and looks to be prepared for another sensational
season. Last year, as a freshman
She become the first Rubidoux freshman to advance to the CIF finals and just
missed the State meet. Laura Diaz, another top varsity sophomore was not far
behind and looked all league again this year. Freshman Lizette Eniriquez had
the second best time for the falcons and could be a pleasant surprise. Many of
the girls Rubidoux records for this meet were improved. Unlike the boys team
the girls lost to graduation leadership and talent and will need to step up to
win another league title. On the
bright side is the team is young and deep; no seniors, and should be formidable
for quite a few years. Next
Saturday, the falcons will depart from their normal Invitational schedule which
usually included “Woodbridge” and head to San Diego for the Mt. Carmel Invitational
which will include San Diego teams as well as squads from Arizona, Nevada,
Oregon and Colorado.

Beaumont Bests Rubidoux
Mt. Pass and Mt. Valley
League Champions met in an opening duel last Wednesday to test their early
season metal. Beaumont a Division
2 power and top Riverside County team matched their runners against Rubidoux ,
a Division 3 power and also Riverside County highly ranked team. Although Beaumont bettered the falcons,
the races were more interesting than the results. In the girls race Rubidoux’s Fernanda Rodriguez, D3 CIF
Finalist last year and League Champion as a freshman, was unable to run down
the Cougars Jazmin Romero in the mile and a half race. At three miles who knows what the
result might have been? Fernanda
was flying in the last half mile.
Laura Diaz, another outstanding freshman from last year’s squad, who
placed second in league, was not far behind. Junior Esbeidi Ochoa who after a great frosh season followed
by a lackluster Sophomore year looked like she was back in form challenging for
top spots placing right behind Diaz.
Last year the Falcon girls placed one-two-three in league; with Ochoa
moving up it could signal another sweep this year. Sitting out the meet however because of injuries
were Lizette Enriquez, the falcons top frosh this year and said to possess a
load of talent and veteran runner Jenny Diaz who was part of the varsity last
year. The lady Falcons this year
features no seniors , which will bode well for the future.

Fernanda Rodriguez, after a spectacular race last week whereas a freshman she placed second in her heat, was not able to advance. She was the top individual freshman forthe race not on an advancing team however was 8th in the top twenty, missing the cut by 9 seconds. Ifshe had run in division 4 or 5 she would have easily qualified. Although the Rubidoux teams did notmake State; they look forward to 2011. The ladyfalcons will return a majority of their varsity, 2 frosh and 3 sophomores . Rubidoux in the Finals
CIF Cross Country Prelims 2010 Mueen Ghoury Wins; Fernanda Rodriguez Second Earlier this year at theMt. SAC Invitational, Mueen went out with the leaders in the sweepstakes raceand in essence ran their race. The end result was being passed in the last mile, running a fast time but placed 6th. Last Saturday at CIF Prelims, Ghoury was ready forthem. Mueen said, “This time I ranmy race”. The end result wasGhoury running with the pack the first miles and then just before the last milesurge ahead and left them all behind; a slower time but first place. It was the first time that a Rubidouxrunner with all their storied runners of past years had ever won the PreLims. The importance of the timewas that is was the second fastest time in Division 3, the fastest time was bylast years state champion. Rubidoux’s heat was the fastest of the day. Servite the 6th place teamout of this race also qualified to finals. Woodbridge the tenth ranked team was 8th anddidn’t make it. Under ratedRubidoux surprised them all. It seemed as a perfect day to the normalobserver. However with theblustery winds it had a dehydrating effect on the runners in the afternoon races. Most of the times were off by about10-15 seconds from ideal conditions. Angel Perez, Rubidoux’s number 2 in waiting, ran an exceptional racebettering his Invitational time and placing 4th in the race, qualifyingas an individual. It was the firsttime Perez had gone sub 16 at Mt. SAC. A place where in the past he had hadmany disappointing races. Perez’sperformance bodes well for the falcons next season when he will inherit the topposition for the Falcons. The onlyother falcon to improve his time was Francisco Rojas who took five seconds offhis best time on the course and may have been the difference. Everybody, after the race, knew it wasclose as to which teams would qualify. Coach Chan charged to the results board with bated breaths, trying to becalm and reserved. When the firstresults were posted; Rubidoux was 5th and had made it. Coach waselated and then they announced there were some discrepancies and they need torevaluate the standings. Chan saidhis heart fell. After all the hardwork all year were they going to be nudged out of finals? Then they posted the final results andit was official. Rubidoux was 5thand going on. The falcons had notbeen in the finals since 2003. Chann said as he walked down to the Rubidouxcamp, “I tried to be calm and unemotional but when I got to the camp and I justlost it. “We Made It”! To say theleast the Rubidoux Boys were ecstatic. Earlier in the day the Lady falcons, also League Champions, ran their race. The girls are young and building but this doesn’t stop them from runninghard. Senior Sonia Lopez probablyran her best race and may be a late bloomer in running. She could be aninteresting college prospect. TheLady Falcons featuring super frosh Fernanda Rodriguez, and Laura Barbosa-Diaz;Sophomores Jennifer Diaz and returning runner; also soph Esbeidi Ochoa lookgood for the future. The ladiesmay be in the same position next year as the boys were this year if improvementcontinues. Freshman Fernanda Rodriguez was the highlight of the day for the ladiesas she placed second in a race, which featured many of the top teams andrunners. This was the first time aRubidoux Frosh had placed this high and qualified to go on as anindividual. She already has thesecond fastest time ever run by a falcon. Ironically Rubidoux’s fastest time at Mt SAC was also run by a freshman;Kat Prince in 1984 (18.23). Unfortunately Prince’s parents wouldmove to the Poly district and never compete at the same level again. Currently, Fernanda is one of the topfrosh in the county. If Rodriguezcontinues her improvement it is entirely possible she could qualify forState. Danielle Pekar is the onlyfalcon to ever qualify as an individual for State. Pekar went on to a four year scholarship at UCR and becamean Academic all American. She nowlives with her husband in Texas. Freshman Fernanda Rodriguez Runs 18.27 at Mt. SAC Invitational!
Fernanda Rodriguez, Rubidoux’s freshmen sensation ran yet another impressive race in the varsity race division against some ofthe best. Rodriguez was the top freshmen in the race placing 5th. Her time a sensational 18.27! How good is this time? Well the best time ever run by a Rubidoux runner on Mt. SAC is 18.23 by Kat Prince in1984. She was also a freshman. Danielle Pekar who is the only falcon ever to advance to state, a scholarship to UCR and an Academic All American ran 18.54 in the CIF finals to advance. The only other Rubidoux girl to run in the 18’s, was Katherine Gomez;18.58. Gomez went on to RCC and last year placed 5th in State at the California Community College Championships at 10,000 meters. Rubidoux now looks forward to the Mountain Valley League finals nextweek (11/3) at Jurupa Hills. The falcons most likely will win both Boys and Girls league titles. Rubidouxs Laura Diaz-Barbosa Wins Inland Empire
Inland EmpireChampionships 2010 Guasti Park 10/9/10 The Inland Empire Challenge is a Riverside County vs. San Bernardino County Challenge between cross country teams. Runners are awarded all county honors compared to how they do against runners in their county. Traditionally Rubidoux has always done well at this meet and last Saturday was no exception especially on the girl’s side. The Frosh Soph girls division race Laura Diaz-Barbosa easily outdistanced the closest rivals winning the race. In 4 out of the last five times Rubidoux has run at this meet the falcon girls have won the race. Katherine Gomez did it both her freshmen and sophomore years and Jessica Martinez in her freshman year. Fernanda Rodriguez however, Rubidoux’s top frosh ran in the sweepstakes race, the most contentious girls race of the day, placing third best frosh overall with a time of 18.29 by far the fastest frosh time for a Rubidoux falcon Frosh/Soph ever. Gomez ran 18.56 and Donnisha Johnson 18.57 in a past duel to the finish; had the fastest times up until this year. If Rodriguez would have run the frosh soph race the Rubidoux team would have won the team honors easily placing them no worst than 2nd place in the Girls frosh/Soph race in last five times entered in this race. As the season progresses Rodriguez seems to be just getting better; how good only the future will tell. Fernanda is truly yet another very special lady falcon runner. High Desert Classic 2010
Machris Park, Yucca Valley 9/25 All week Norte Vistas coach Andrade had talked about his newfreshmen sensation, Crystal Tejada, who had won the Sunkist meet earlier in the week and had been only 10 seconds behind Rubidoux’s frosh sensation Fernanda Rodriguez at Woodbridge. Crystal had beat out teammate “Speedy” Alejandra Cortez who lost to Patriot’s Audrey Correa Sunkist Champion at finals last year. Rubidoux’s Fernanda Rodriguez put in yet another stellar race as she beat both Tejada and Cortez comfortably. Coach Chann in a resting phase of training this year; held out three of the Falcons top girls in the race so the team match up did not transpire. Next week the falcons take off a weekend as they prepare for the Inland Empire Championships on October 9 at Guasti Park. VarsityGirls 5. Fernanda Rodriguez (20.19) 25. Rubidoux Romps through Mountain Valley
Mountain Valley Cluster #1 Rim of theWorld course 9/22/10 Frosh sensations Fernanda Rodriguez, with a minute lead, and Laura Diaz-Barbosa went1-2 in the girl’s race. Improving Seniors Sonia Lopez and Mayte Gonzalez were not far behind in 5thand 6th place. Sophomore Jennifer Diaz, another one of the varsity’s top runners camein 12th. The lady falcons outdistanced their closet rival, Rim of the World, by 36 points and look to be a League favorite as the boys this year in the Mountain Valley. Rubidoux. The last time the falcons won both boys and girls varsity races was in 2006 as the girls had back to back titles. With many outstanding young runners on both teams it looks like Rubidoux has risen back to their traditional strong position in cross country. The Mission Running club under coachSam Gee and Keith Chann’s most diligent work and dedication at the high school level have vaulted the Falcons back into one of the county’s best Cross country programs. Saturday the Falcons will travel to Yucca Valley to the very competitive High Desert classic. In the high desert Rubidoux will encounter Norte Vista’s Sunkist leading boys and girls squads in a show down, which should be most interesting. Fast Times at Fast Back Shoot Out
Fast Times at Fast BackShoot Out Rubidoux’s Mueen Ghoury and Fernanda Rodriguez Win Big Races Rubidoux and Patriot Cross Country teams opened the 2010 season last Saturday at the Fast Back Shoot Out on a 1.9 mile Mt Sac. Course. The 1.9 milecourse takes out a loop and a hill from the traditional 3 miles course. Rubidoux, which will run in the Mountain Valley League this year, laid down some pretty impressive races. Fernanda Rodriguez in her first race on the high school scene, day lighted an impressive field of over 100 runners as she ran away with the race, which was never in question. How good is Rodriguez? She has just come off an impressive track season running in a national race under coach Gee from Mission MiddleSchool and only having about three weeks of cross country practice. Fernanda’s freshman time (12.13) was well under Katherine Gomez’s junior time (12.35) 2006, which up until last Saturday the fastest Rubidoux girl’s time at this meet. Katherine Gomez competed for RCC the last two years and was 5th in the State in the 10,000 meters last June and is now at Cal State San Bernardino. Pretty special company! The girls team as a whole looked very good as they collected seven medals for the day amidst strong competition in races well over a 100 and among well respected teams. Laura Diaz-Barbosa another freshman for the falcons also looked very good as she tied Audrey Correa’s Top ninth grade time. Correa just finished up at Patriot and is now on scholarship in Oregon. Jenny Diaz moved into second best Sophomore time (14.12) just behind Katherine Gomez as she improved over a minute from last year’s time and capturing yet another a medal for the young team. Senior’s Mayte Gonzalez (14.02) Sonia Lopez (13.32), Stephanie Gomez (15.03), Analilia Ortiz (15.25) also set new Rubidoux records for the meet. The Rubidoux boys, favored again to win league this year and possibly more, were impressive lead by Mueen Ghoury. Mueen settled in the first part of the senior race and as they approached the hill left the other runners in the dust as he just missed going under 10 minutes for the course. Junior Angel Perez, second in league behind Mueen last year, improved his performance as he placed fourth with the second best time (10.27) for the falcons. Antonio Sanchez (10.39), another improved Junior was just behind Angel taking sixth place in a strong field. Sophomore Raymundo Rodriguez (10.42) also placed sixth in his race and posted yet another sub 11 minute time for the falcons. Seniors Marvin Nogueda (11.20), Juan Salas (11.28) and Imran Zaman (11.30) have improved and are closing the crucial fifth man gap, which is now within seconds rather than minutes. Outlook for 2010
Boys and Girls Teams Favorites in New League Coach Chann for the pasttwo years has been patiently training the Falcon boys for a Championship run. 2010may be the year Rubidoux wins league and goes deep into CIF and possibly state. For 2010 Rubidoux moves from the Mt. Pass league to the “new” Mt. Valleyleague. The Mt. Valley Leagueincludes two new schools; Jurupa Hills, Fontana and Citrus Valley,Redlands. Banning and Notre Damealso move from the Mt.Pass. Rim ofthe World rounds out the league of six schools for the 2010 season. TheRubidoux Boys are lead by Senior Mueen Ghoury; 2009 Mt. Pass League championand CIF finalist. Also back isJunior Angel Perez; runner up to Mueen last year. Raymundo Rodriguez, andAntonio Sanchez also return from a strong varsity from last year, which wasunlucky not to win league last year by one point. The Rubidoux boys again this year will no doubt be the teamto beat. Banning also returns some strong varsity runners and may be the competitionhowever Rim and Citrus Valley are the wild cards for the top three spots in theMt. Valley. The Lady Falcons forthe first time in many years are also strong for 2010 returning much of theirvarsity that went to CIF last year and placed third in league. Incomingfreshmen Laura Diaz will further bolster an already strong team in their firstlegitimate run for a league title this year. In 2005 & 2006 the Lady Falconswon back to back league titles in the Sunkist. Jennifer Diaz, Mayte Gonzalez,Sonia Lopez and Analilia Ortiz have improved and will support a strong varsityteam. Unfortunately because of budget cuts however the girls have lost theirhead coach and are now combined with the boys program under boys coach KeithChann. This will be the first timein 30 years that the Lady Falcons will not have their own coach. Patriotretains their head coaches for both Boys and Girls programs and Jurupa Valleyhas a walk on coach for both teams in 2010. You can follow the Girls CrossCountry program on their web site rubidouxgirlsxc.com. The Boys web site iseteamz.com/rubidouxcc/.

CIF Pre Lims 2009
Lastyear runners had to deal with smoke from local fires at Mt. Sac. This year runners were blessed withnear perfect conditions as Rubidoux and Patriot runners competed in the CIF PreLims last Saturday. Mueen Ghoury,Mt. Pass League Champion, ran a near perfect race as he placed fifth in one ofthe toughest heats of the day. Mueen was the second best Junior in the race andadvanced to CIF Finals next Saturday (11/21) at Mt. Sac. The encouragingperception was how relaxed and easy Ghoury challenged the tough Mt Saccourse. If he can drop his time tothe 15.30’s, which coach Chann thinks is well within his reach, he will bespending the Thanksgiving weekend in Fresno at the State Championships. The encouraging fact for the Rubidouxteam is that all will be returning. The Falcon team next yearwill be the odds on favorites in their new League. The Rubidoux girls, after a couple of dark years, were backin CIF attacking the Mt Sac venue. Even though all the girls ran improved races, it was not enough toadvance to finals. Freshman EsbediOchoa ran an exceptional race and could be the one to catch next year. Although the Lady falcons will loseseniors Dulce Pliego and Ana Lopez; the heart of the team will return andshould challenge for the League title in 2010. Mt. Pass Finals
Mt. Pass CrossCountry Finals Diamond Valley Lake 11/04/09 Rubidoux’s Mueen Ghoury and Angel Perez Dominate Mt. Pass Final Cross Country is an interesting sport. Unlike other sports every race, contest, can produce different Individual results as well as team standings. The Mt. Pass CrossCountry League Finals took a wicked turn for Rubidoux last Wednesday at DiamondValley. Mueen Ghoury and Angel Perez turned in stellar performances, especially since they are underclassmen, placing first and second in the Mt. Pass finals. The Rubidoux team however who had lead the league for the first three cluster meets lost the league title by one point to Heritage. Some of the falcon runners had been sick in bed with the flu earlier in the week and were not able to perform well enough to bring home the league title. A huge disappointment since the team goal all season had been to win the Mt Pass league tile. On the positive side there are no seniors on the team and next year in a new league the Falcons will again be favorites for the league title. Mueen Ghoury who has dominated the league all season won easily. Sophomore Angel Perez ran his most improved race of the year as runner up. The Lady falcons, pre season fifth or maybe fourth place team picks, surprised the league with their performances all year. Lead by senior Dulce Pliego the team finished the season as the third Place team in league and a trip to CIF. Rubidoux Boys and Girls teams will run in CIF Pre Lims next Saturday (11/14) at Mt. Sac in Division III. Mt. Pass League Tightens
Mt. Pass #3 ClusterMeet Banning HighSchool 10/28/09 Ghoury WinsAgain; League Tightens Up Just when it seemed Rubidoux would run off with their first Mt. Pass team title,Heritage pops up and wins the Mt. Pass 3rd cluster meet placing both teams within one point going into the finals next Wednesday at Diamond Valley Lake. Mueen Ghoury continued to dominate the boy’s competition winning easily on a chilly windy day in Banning. Beaumont, with a depleted varsity was still able to dominate the girls competition, however it is a dogfight for the next three spots between Rubidoux, Heritage and Tahquitz who seem to change positions each race. All will advance to CIF since the Mt.Pass sends four teams; in what place still needs to be determined. In the Junior Varsity races Rubidoux boys lead by Francisco Rojas placed in the top three again. Sonia Lopez running down in the Junior Varsity race won easily outdistancing her closet rival by almost a minute. As a team the girls placed second to the powerful Beaumont team who traditionally dominate the Mt. Pass league. Next Wednesday (11/4) the Mt. Pass League will hold their finals on the Hemet cross country course near Diamond Valley Lake. The top four teams will advance to CIF Prelims at Mt. Mt. Sac Invitational
Rubidoux’s Ghoury Impressive inSweepstakes, other Falcons place in Top Ten Rubidoux’s , Mueen Ghoury, stepped up in class as he racedsome of the top teams and top Individuals in the Division III Boys sweepstakesrace at Mt. Sac last Friday. Ghoury did not disappoint as he continues to improve off coach Chann’straining which has him aiming at CIF in November. On a 95 degreeday against not only the best teams in California but also in Louisiana andAlabama, Ghoury came charging downthe “runway”, closing the gap on the top runners he has been chasing allseason, and crossed the finish line in 8th place with a time of16.03. Coach Chann was heardcommenting, “We’re right on Track”! This performance is bound to turn some heads as Mueen is only a Juniorracing against some of the top Seniors in the division. Rubidoux’s InlandEmpire Championship Sophomore boys team also fared well as they raced to afourth place finish with only one California team beating them; the other teamswere from out of state. AngelPerez and Antonio Sanchez, Rubidoux’s top soph’s placed in the top ten with sub18 times. The Lady Falconscontinued to look good as Senior Dulce Pliego turned in a stellar performanceand also placed in the top ten going under 22 minutes on the tough hills of Mt. SAC. Freshman Jennifer Diaz also raced to atop ten finish and a medal in the Freshmen girls race as she also continues toimprove. Rubidoux Cross Country Maintains Lead in Mt. Pass
Mueen Ghoury Wins the Boys Race Again Lastyear the Rubidoux girl’s team had only five runners on the whole team. There was no Junior varsity. They were in the bottom of the MountainPass League. The was the thirdyear since the separation from Patriot where most of the varsity runners hadstayed to run in the Sunkist. Theseason didn’t even start out good as no head coach could be found for the summertraining. This did not deter thegirls from recruiting and building a team on their own which after yesterdaysrace placed them in tie for second place in he Mt. Pass League. Four weeks ago Rich Torbert, well knowncoach in the area, stepped in as head coach. In the Mountain Pass League second cluster meet, with girlswho were suffering from flu and various other ailments; Rubidoux ran to a third place finish and a tie for therunner up slot in the Mt. Pass. The Rubidoux boy’s team maintained their lead in the Mountain PassLeague as Mueen Ghoury won the race and Angel Perez and Antonio Sanchez placedin the top ten; all underclassmen. Rubidoux this Saturday will put on the 4th Annual RubidouxCross Country Invitational at Rubidoux High School. Over 20 schools are expected to participate. The following Friday (10/23) the teamwill travel to Mt. Sac for the largest Cross Country Invitational in the UnitedStates. Rubidoux Runs Well at Inland Empire
Rubidoux Frosh/Soph Boys Inland Empire Champions Angel Perez Inland Empire Frosh/Soph Champion Prado Park, Chino
On an overcast day perfectly suited for Cross Country races, Rubidoux and Jurupa Valley raced through a soggy grass course which one runner commented “It was like running in sand”! Rubidoux’s Frosh/Soph team devastated the field as Angel Perez easily won the race as the team put four in the top six on their way to the Team title. Antonio Sanchez could have been second however at the finish some lights flashed and he thought the race was over, as he slowed another runner passed him for second place. Rubidoux’s top runner Junior, Mueen Ghoury, raced with the elite of the Inland Empire in the Boys Sweepstakes. Ghoury’s time of (15.13) placed him in the top five of all the juniors that raced making him All Riverside County for the third year in a row. Rubidoux’s Dulce Pliego had the top girls time for the locals in the varsity girl’s race.

Rubidoux Cross Country is Back!
Boys team win,Girls team runner up in Mt. Pass Opener TheRubidoux Cross Country team, long known as one of the top programs in SouthernCalifornia, is back on track. Aftera transition period, out of their control, in which they were placed in freelance status and then the MountainPass League without their upper classmen. This did not deter coach Keith Chan who traveled back to the Rubidouxcampus and patiently worked with the underclassmen. In a short two years theFalcons are back on top. Lead byAll Riverside County Junior Mueen Ghoury and Sophomore Angel Perez; the Falconsopened the 2009 Mountain Pass League season with a winning performance. Ghoury and Perez were one-two as thefalcons beat runner up Heritage by 11 points in the first cluster meet of theseason. The Beaumont boys, 2008League champion had to settle for third place. Everybody knew the Falcon boys were on the rise however theshock of the day was when the Falcon girls; last year’s 5th placeteam, rose up and ran to an eye opening second place finish. Lead by Dulce Pliego the girls lookedlike they are also back on track. Before the move back to Rubidoux campus the girls had been SunkistLeague Champions back to back lead by Individual League champion KatherineGomez who now is running for the Riverside Community College state championteam. Tired of being under theshadow of the boys the girl’s team throughout the summer, without a coach;pulled together. During thisperiod the girls developed as a team on their own with rising internalleadership and developed goals for the season; placing in the top three in League, and going to CIF. Many who observed quietly thought maybe4th would be more realistic but third was really reaching after lastyears finish of 5th. Coach Chan observing the race said ”Iwas totally shocked as I watched them finish”! The girls now have a coach inRich Torbert, Rubidoux’s head Track coach. What a way to start for the newcoach! Beaumont was expected towin but nobody was ready for the Lady Falcons as they chased the top team andplaced second in the first cluster meet of the Mountain League season. The girls validated that cross countryis an 70% mental and 30% physical sport as their focus lead them to thisimpressive finish. Saturdaythe Falcons will travel to the Hi-Desert Classic in Yucca Valley. Fast BackShoot Out 2009 The Rubidoux Cross Country team opened their season last Saturday at the “Fast BackShoot Out Invitational” , a two mile race over the hills of Mt. Sac. Mueen Ghoury, the Falcons top runner blistered the course with a time of 10:26. Only one other junior was able to beat him and his time was the best time for a Mountain Pass runner. Freshman Juan Salas (11.28) and Soph Angel Perez (11.00) took 5th place intheir respective races. Antonio Perez (11.15) was close with a 9th place finish. Sophomore David Garcia (43) 12.15 rounded out the top five for the Falcons. The Lady Falcon’s, Senior Dulce Pliego ran well for her first race with a time of 14.06 and a top twenty finish. Freshman Jennifer Diaz looked promising with top thirty finish in her first high school race. Falcons Face Fast times at CIF
The young falcon varsity featuring three Freshmen and two Juniors; lacking their #4 & #5 in one of the toughest races of the day placed 10th among 16 teams in a formidable division I race. In spite of the stiff competition, the falcons rose to the occasion and to a runner set personal records across the board showing some of the biggest improvements in CIF ever for a Rubidoux team. As a team Rubidoux continued to climb the ladder towards the top as they have steadily improved on their team time over the last four years and look to be on their way, in the next few years to something special. The final Riverside County ranking I am assured will move us up from #12 to the top ten; not bad for team who will return their entire varsity and may drop a divison or two in competition with the move back to old Rubidoux. It has been a wonderful season and it is a shame it has to come to an end but we will reload in Track and attack it again in the summer and build a stronger, better team that will make it to CIF finals; possibly state. GO FALCONS!

RUBIDOUX BACK TO BACK
RUBIDOUX GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY 2006
RUBIDOUX BACK TO BACK
11/01/2006
The Rubidoux Falcon girls, lead by Junior Katherine Gomez cruised to an easy team victory, at their new Dino Mesa course. Gomez (18.14), 2005 League Champion, repeated as Sunkist League Champion and set a new course record besting the her old record (19.09) which had been previously set in the first Sunkist League cluster in September. Freshmen Jessica Martinez (19.01) had another outstanding performance also breaking the old record and being the top frosh runner of the day placing 3rd overall. Audrey Correa (19.20) another talented freshmen, running for the first time on the course, placed in the top five on the demanding course which many say is harder than Mt. SAC. Victoria Perdomo (19.38) showed improvement from her last time on the course when she ran 21.21. Sophomore Lucia Victorio (19.51) continued to improve and placed in the top ten. Marsha Fernandez (20.37) improved by 9 seconds despite a poor race. Ivet Ruiz (20.43) improved by almost a minute and a half as she gets stronger each race. Junior Perla Guerrero (20.33) won the Junior Varsity race and moved up to #6 on the varsity team. Sophomore Stephanie Gomez (21.13) was runner up in the Junior varsity race and also made the top ten CIF squad. Junior Stacy Smith (21.24) made a huge move to also place in Rubidouxs top ten. Wendy Fernandez (21.30) improved by 45 seconds and placed in the top five of the junior varsity race. Erica Ortiz (22.41) improved by almost 2 minutes and was in the top ten of the Junior varsity. Josslyn Marquez (22.47) improved over her last race placing in the top ten for Rubidoux Junior varsity. Nancy Romero (22.49) continued to improve as she moved from 13th place to 9th place. Lorena Rojas (24.19) also improved by a few seconds. Alyson Barnes (24.20) was a top 25 finisher out of 62 girls that raced. Jessica Marquez (25.28) showed the most improvement for all the falcons as she bettered her time on the course by over 3 minutes. Placing five runners under twenty seconds, the Young Falcons are now healthy, seem to be getting stronger and look to be peaking at the right time for CIF. This was their 12th League title, and the tenth straight CIF appearance for Rubidoux. The last time the Falcons were in CIF finals was from 1992, 1993 & 1994. Could this be the beginning of another CIF final appearance? With three runners who have already run in the 18s and three others who have run consistently under 20 minutes, the falcons might be a surprise in CIF Pre Lims 11/11 at Mt. SAC. GO FALCONS!

Heat Cuts Down Afternoon Mt SAC Times
Frosh Team Runner Up in Top Division by Two Points in the Heat
As the day wore on at Mt. SAC the heat increased and greatly affected the times after 10A.M. Running in the hottest part of the day (1P.M. 3P.M.) the falcons competed well in the tough division I races. Junior Katherine Gomez (20.07) competing in the toughest varsity race was still able to place in the top 25 running against some of the best in Southern California. The Frosh team also running in a tough race against top teams from throughout Southern California just missed an upset by two points (54 56) against Thousand Oaks one of the best teams in California. Audrey Correa (22.21) and Jessica Martinez (21.27) for the first part of the race lead the pack and in the mid part Rubidoux had 3 in the top five however at the end Thousand Oaks was able to squeeze a few ahead and won by two points 54 -56. Victoria Perdomo (21.46) also had an exceptional race as she placed 6th overall and moved closer to the leaders. The falcons placed five in the top 25 against 25 of the best teams in Southern California. The twins Marsha Fernandez (22.56) and Wendy Fernandez (23.06) also raced well as they closed the gap. In the Sophomore race Lucia Victorio (21.01) continued to improve as she battled in the top five and eventually placed 4th. Victorio, top runner from last year continued her improve and looks to be peaking right at the right time. Ivet Ruiz (22.38) and Perla Guerrero (23.10) ran well in the JV race. Disregarding the times and looking at the places and caliber of teams, the falcons are becoming the surprise of the season. The Frosh girls especially who won the Inland Empire, Rubidoux Invitational, Brea Invitational and were second at Woodbridge, Hemet and now Mt. SAC. In one week (11/1) on Wednesday at their home course among the Dinos the falcons will compete in the Sunkist League Finals. Already clinched at least a tie for the championship and an overwhelming favorite the only real contest will be to see how many falcons make top ten and get Sunkist All League patched for 2006.

Frosh Win Again, Inland Empire Champions
Martinez, Correa, Perdomo & Gomez ALL RIVERSIDE COUNTY
The Rubidoux girls this weekend laid down one of the great performances of all time for the Falcons who were finally close to full strength. After a series of injuries and sickness the last two weeks; the falcons finally broke out at the Inland Empire Championships. The falcon frosh coming off a team win at Brea opened eyes as they crushed the field in the Division I Frosh race. Jessica Martinez (19.44), in a break out race, sprinted to the lead and never looked back as she outdistanced the field and lead the squad to an awesome finish; 5 in the top 11in the large school division. Katherine Gomez for the last two years dominated this race and Jessica continued the string for Rubidoux winning again for the third year in a row. Not far behind was Audrey Correa (19.55) winner at Woodbridge, who recovering from injuries and sickness looked to be rounding back into form charging at the finish. Victoria Perdomo (20.04), Marsha Fernandez (20.17) and sister Wendy Fernandez (20.59) rounded out the top five for a low score of 25. What people dont know is it could have been worse as Wendy ran way off course and lost considerable time with the correction. Jessica, Audrey and Victoria were named ALL RIVERSIDE COUNTY; actually All Inland Empire as there are few frosh teams who are running better than these falcons are now and further improvement is tabbed for the future. This is a very special squad who is just now starting run. Sophomore Lucia Victorio (20.18) another wrong way runner for the day, in spite of the error ran a respectable time but cost her the big finish and sub 20 times she was looking for. Katherine Gomez (18.45) recovering from two weeks of sickness, looked recovered running in the tough Division I varsity race against some of the best in the county. Her race was an eleven second improvement over 2005 time. She was also named ALL RIVERSIDE COUNTY for the third year in row. The falcons team time improved from 6 to 7 under 21 and look to be getting stronger by the week as health returns to the team. Next week the Falcons will travel to Norte Vista for the #2 Sunkist League cluster. Two years ago the falcons lost the league title by two points on this course. The young falcons this year, reminded of this dark moment, has vowed to not let this happen again. The Falcons, with a win, can clinch for at least a tie for the Sunkist League title. Next Saturday, October 14, Rubidoux will host the 2nd Annual Rubidoux Invitational, which will feature some of the top runners in the area. GO FALCONS!

FROSH/SOPH First Place at Brea
The Frosh/Soph Falcons after a series of second place team finishes at Brea finally broke through this year with a First Place Team finish. Competing against 34 other teams mostly from Orange County the Falcon girls on a thick grass course, continued to look strong running away from the competition. Over powering top squads like Wilson and Brea showed that this team is on track for great things. Stay tuned. Top varsity frosh from last year, Lucia Victorio (21.55) lead the Frosh/Soph pack and looks ready for a big race. Not far behind was the Jessica Martinez (22.04) who is leap frogging runners every week; watch this girl for big improvement as she catches up to the summer trained runners and aiming for a #1 spot. She does have the ability. Marsha Fernandez (22.40) continued to run well placing again in the falcons top five and looking solid as usual. Victorio Perdomo (23.01) and Audrey Correa (23.10) again rounded out the top five. This was Correas first race since her injury and improvement next week looks possible as she catches up on the training and grows stronger. Wendy Fernandez (23.27) was only 17 seconds off the pace but will close the gap next week. Katherine Gomez battling the flu sat the race in preparation for Inland Empire next week where she has won the last two years and the Falcons team will vie for the Riverside County Crown and All County Individual honors.

Falcons Limp into Bulldog
Audrey Correa injured from Soccer mishap and Katherine Gomez being sick in bed Thursday and Friday it was no surprise that the Falcons were not able to defend their 2005 title. Sophomore Lucia Victorio had a huge race on her return to top racing form and Freshmen Marsha Fernandez, Victorio Perdomo, Wendy Fernandez and Jessica Martinez continued to impress as they ran remarkable races considering this was the third race in a week. Perla Guerrero and Erika Ibarra also looked good as they pressed in the Junior/Senior races. As they gain experience and conditioning dont be surprised to see these two throw in a big race soon. Next week one of the favorite races of the season Brea Invitational where counterparts on teams run against each other. GO FALCONS!

Racing Among the Dino's
Falcons Open Season on the New Dino Course
Rubidoux Girls team and Katherine Gomez defend League Titles
Rubidoux opened their 2006 Sunkist League Cross Country Season on the challenging new 2.8 mile course at the Jurupa Mountains Cultural Center. Likened to a big Mt. SAC it tested the training of all the leagues runners in their Sunkist debut. Running among the Dinosaurs, by Marys Mammoth and amid Cactus, the Falcons looked strong as ever defending their Sunkist League team & Individual titles from last year. Junior Katherine Gomez (19.09), 2005 Sunkist League Champion was challenged early by Norte Vistas Islas in the race however in the final stages Katherine was able to draw away with a powerful kick. Freshman Marsha Fernandez (20.46) ranked 7th in League made a huge move to #4 in her opening league race. Jessica Martinez (21.20) another talented freshmen unranked before the race turned in also a big race as she moved into the #7 position in League. Victoria Perdomo (21.21) yet another freshman maintained her top ten ranking with an 8th place finish. Junior Perla Guerrero (21.55) rounded out the top scoring five for the Falcons as Rubidoux won by 10 points and improved on their unbeaten streak in League. Pretty impressive for the first League race of the year especially since they didnt run their top Frosh who is the #2 runner on the team and probably the second best in League. Junior Ivet Ruiz (22.07) validated good weeks of training with an excellent race and may move up in the future. Soph Lucia Victorio (22.26) had an off day but with good workouts will climb back to the top. Rubidouxs girls Junior Varsity also had a great day as Wendy Fernandez (22.15) won by a large margin which also maintained the JV unbeaten streak in league; which stretches back to 2003. Moving up and looking improved was Junior Erika Ibarra (23.10) who is still learning the game and could be a factor late season. Running close to Erika was Rosemary Gaona (23.24), Josslyn Marquez (23.24) and Nancy Romero (23.41) who helped Rubidoux dominate the division by over 45 points. This Saturday the falcons travel to Hemet. They are the 2005 Hemet Invitational defending Champions.

Audrey Correa Remains Unbeaten
The Rubidoux Falcons after opening the season at Mt. SAC Fastback Shootout traveled to Irvine this Saturday to run in the Woodbridge Invitational; 2nd largest Cross country Meet in the United States. It would turn out to be one of the biggest days ever in Rubidoux girls cross country history as the team would rewrite many Rubidoux records and post the two fastest times ever ran by a Rubidoux girl since 1988. This could be a very special team this year, only time will tell. Audrey Correa in the Frosh race, sprinted out with the front pack at the beginning of the race, settled for the middle part of the race and then in the last 800 meters surged away from the pack and won going away in a sensational (18.55) time. This was the second consecutive win for Correa who served notice last week as she cruised away from some of the best last week at Mt. SAC. Her time (18.55) was the second fastest time ever run by a Rubidoux girl at Woodbridge and the best Frosh/Soph fastest time.
Victoria Perdomo (20.13) another talented frosh also looked good as she put in one of the best races of her life recording one of the All Time Rubidoux top ten Frosh/Soph times. Marsha Fernandez (20.59), one of the Fernandez twins, also ran a top ten Rubidoux Frosh. /Soph record time for the day. Jessica Martinez (21.16) also slipped into the Frosh/Soph record book with her first race of the season. Wendy Fernandez (21.59) fifth member of the Frosh team which last week were impressive made sure the Falcons would score high in the team competition with a great effort. Josslyn Marquez (23.23) one of the teams Marquez twins, looked improved as she posted an excellent performance that just missed the top twenty record. The Falcons on their way to rewriting the Rubidoux Frosh/Soph Records ended up the second best team of 32 teams for the day. Lucia Victorio (20.35), talented varsity Soph, was able too go sub 21.00 as she rounded into shape after returning from a vacation. Stephanie Gomez (21.50) another talented varsity Soph running injured, was still able to run a top Frosh/Soph time. Rosemary Gaona (22.13) injury plagued throughout the summer was able to post a good time, which will improve as she heals. Kaylyn Delgado (24.32) soccer player/sprinter was moving fast at the finish line and may improve in the future. Junior Katherine Gomez (18.31) Rubidouxs number one runner not to be outdone by the Fab Frosh exploits laid down a All Time Best Rubidoux #1 mark which dates back to 1988 when Rubidoux first ran at Woodbridge. Taking 30 seconds off her Woodbridge best of 19.00 when she won the Soph race last year, she looked well poised for another outstanding season. Perla Guerrero (20.59) another soccer player getting serious about cross country this year, made a huge jump from her (23.11) last year. She was the fifth falcon under (21.00) which bodes well for the team. Erika Ibarra (22.22) another newcomer to the squad is getting better as she learns the game. Stacy Smith (23.02) coming off a summer swimming season and starting late will move up with more practice. Nancy Romero (23.15) another soccer player running for the first time will improve on the hills; remains strong runner. Alyson Barnes (23.30) Rubidouxs lone senior continues to work hard and share experience and knowledge with a team, which is so young and talented this year. The Falcons will open the Sunkist League Season Wednesday (9/20) on the new course at the Jurupa Mts. Cultural Center. The Rubidoux girls are defending Sunkist League Champions Varsity and Junior Varsity and are odds on to continue their winning tradition. GO FALCONS!

Rubidoux Frosh Open Season with Fast Times
Rubidouxs Correa Wins Frosh Race Amid Strong Competition in Record Time
Rubidouxs Audrey Correa in her first high school race at Mt. SAC, among strong competition from Thousand Oaks, Corona, and other ranked schools, seemed unfazed as she broke away in the last half mile ran away from the field, cruising to the finish 13.06 time. The time was the best time ever recorded by a Rubidoux freshman at the popular Fastback Shootout on the 1.9 course and second best time ever among all Rubidoux Runners. Marsha Fernandez one of the talented Fernandez twins followed close on her heels with an excellent time of 13.58. Victoria Perdoma (14.25), Wendy Fernandez (14.41) & Josslyn Marquez (16.26) rounded out the Rubidoux Frosh who were better than expected and could be a major factor in Rubidouxs quest for Back to Back Sunkist League titles. These girls could be very special with time and experience. Although everybody was talking about Correa, Katherine Gomez in the opening Junior race bettered her course time by over 32 seconds (12.35) and was charging at the finish for a 6th place finish against major runners. Gomez is the defending Sunkist League Champion and with this outstanding opener looks more than capable of defending her title on Rubidouxs new home course this year. Perla Guerrero, returning soccer player looked to be rounding into shape as she posted a respectable (14.43) and could be a late season major factor; watch this runner for major improvement in the future. Ivet Ruiz, another talented Junior, improved her meet time by almost a minute and is another runner who will move up with practice and competition. Erica Ibarra (15.15) and Nancy Romero (15.42) new to cross country rounded out the Rubidoux Juniors. Stephanie Gomez (14.48) led the sophomores as she set a new personal record for the meet and looks to be a racer for the Falcons. Sophomore Soccer player/Track sprinter Kaylyn Delgado (15.25) improved by over a minute over last years time and looks to be bringing her natural speed to the front. Christina Ascencio (15.52) joining the team late this year opened her season with a respectable race. Rosemary Gaona (15.43) battling shin splits ran well considering her summer setbacks. When healthy will be a factor. Rubidouxs Alyson Barnes (16.00) looked to be improving in the senior race. The Falcons now look forward to one of the major races of the season in the Woodbridge Invitational next Saturday (9/18) and then opening the Sunkist League season on the new course Jurupa Mountains Cultural Center, September 20 at 3PM. Go Falcons!

Falcons Improve Again on CIF Performance
The Rubidoux girls cross country team continued to improve on their CIF performance as they place 12th (106 team time) last Saturday in the Division I PreLims at Mt. SAC. This was encouraging for the future, since the falcons were without their #2 runner Frosh Jennifer Gonzalez who was sidelined with a shin injury. In spite of this the falcons improved over last years performance, where they placed 14th ( team time 108) and two years ago when they were 16th (team time 111). In 2002 the falcons didnt even make the playoffs as they failed to qualify from League. The falcons seem poised to make the jump next year as they return their entire scoring varsity for 2006. With a strong Soph & Frosh class advancing and improving next year; the falcon could field their strongest squad ever Junior, Soph squad in quite a few years. The prize will be in sight. Next year the falcons could very easily have five runners under 20 or better. This would very definitely put them in the finals and maybe farther 2006. As many teams are already aware, Rubidoux is well on their way back to their tradition of the 80s and 90s where they were considered a top team every year. Another indication of this was that this was the first year where the girls were ranked higher than the boys in Riverside County. Although there were high expectations for 2005, the rebuilding process continues and the future remains bright for the Falcons. IT IS GREAT TO BE A XC FALCON!

SUNKIST LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2005
 | | | League Finals |
The Rubidoux Falcons fighting injuries, sickness and soreness reached down to their five and six runners for big efforts to put them over the top in the Sunkist League Finals. Katherine Gomez won the individual title improved her PR to 18.54; second best for a sophomore on this course. Junior, Donnisha Johnson, replacing Jennifer Gonzalez who couldnt run as the #2 runner, finished in the top five. Stephanie Gomez moved up from the #5 spot to #3 with a super performance and excellent PR (19.55). Lucia Victorio back after a brief illness was able to run fourth for the Falcons with a (20.17) which also was 11th for the race. Not bad for a couple of frosh. Priscilla Madera was another falcon who had a big race as she dipped below 21 for the first time in her running career. Considering all the maladies, the falcons were still impressive putting five under 21 for the day and the Sunksit League title. Kryzia Olsen had her best performance as a falcon as she ran away with the Junior Varsity race, posted a new PR and moved up to #6 on the varsity. Stacy Smith (21.37), Christina Ascencio (21.40) and Ivet Ruiz (21.41) also posted good times as the J.V. team wrapped up the JV title with a perfect score of 15. All in all it was a great day to be a Falcon! Mt. SAC here we come.

Katherine Gomez(18.58) runs into Rubidoux History
Katherine Gomez (18.58) put on a spectacular show Saturday as she ran one of the best performances ever for a Rubidoux girl in the Division I Sophomore race. Her performance, put her in company with some of the best of Rubidoux lore of old. For instance; Rubidoux senior, Danielle Pekar in 1992 who ran 18.56 in a CIF finals race which qualified her as an individual for the California State Championships. The only Rubidoux girl ever to go to the California State meet. Danielle would later accept a scholarship to UCR, where she would run for four years, graduate in education and return to Rubidoux to coach successfully the Rubidoux Girls Cross Country program until her husband was transferred to Texas and she had to leave. She was then known as Coach Texera. And then of course there was Kat Prince in 1984 as a Rubidoux Frosh. An article from Mt Sac archives of 1984:
The Girls 1984 Saturday Team Sweeps event with Christy Farrell, as part of a strong front group chasing early leader, Kat Prince of Rubidoux. Lisa Rizzo (Hart, Newhall) eventually won over the strong group with an 18:14, with Tracy Wright (Irvine) 18:19, Sharon Plante (Arroyo Grande frosh) 18:19, Farrell 18:21, and Rubidoux frosh,Prince (18.23) finishing out the top five. In those days there was no state meet and before this girls use to run only two miles.
The question remains how fast will Katherine run in the future? CIF is just around the corner.
Donnisha Johnson improved her time for Mt. SAC as she laid down a 19.50 and continued to improve. Nursing sore shins, Frosh Jennifer Gonzalez gutted out a great performance in the Frosh Divison I race placing 6th with 20.19. Lucia Victorio, passed on Mt. SAC as she recovers from a brief illness. She plans to return to practice next week and prepare for the falcon run at CIF. Alyson Barnes was yet another surprise for the improving falcons as she PRed with a 21.44 on the tough Mt. SAC layout and moved into the top five for the first time this year. Rubidoux seems to be improving every week and are peaking at the right time; this could be a great season. Fear the Falcon!

Falcons Sweep the Sunkist; 2005 Varsity & Junior Varsity Champions
 | | | | Ascencio wins Junior Varsity |
Katherine Gomez, Jennifer Gonzalez and Donnisha Johnson shoulder to shoulder lead the falcons to their first Sunkist league title since 2000. The race was never in doubt as other teams scrambled for the second and third places the falcons cruised to an easy victory by 24 comfortable points. Not only did the falcons win the varsity race but also showcased in the junior varsity race as to what the future will bring as Ascencio, Ruiz, Smith and Olsen paced the squad to an almost perfect finish in winning the junior varsity competition by 58 points. The future really does look good as the falcons feature no seniors and the top scoring five of the varsity is made up of one junior, one sophomore and three frosh. This might be the beginning of something really special. Stay tuned for future years. This Saturday the falcons will entertain 15 teams from California and Arizona in their first ever Rubidoux Invitational on the new Rubidoux campus. First race will be the Frosh girls at 8:00A.M.

Gomez and Gonzalez Blast Inland Empire Division I Frosh Soph
Katherine Gomez, 2004 Frosh Soph Division I winner, cruised the course again to a resounding back-to-back win. This year however she had frosh teammate Jennifer Gonzalez on her shoulder and the battle between the two far outdistanced the rest of the field as they finished 1-2 a full minute ahead of the pack. Their one-two finish lead the Frosh-Soph team to a second place Inland Empire finish, not far behind Murrieta valley. Also an improvement over the 2004 4th place finish. They both made the all Riverside County team as they opened eyes around the county. One coach was heard to say; remind me next year not to put Rubidoux On our schedule, their girls are back! In fact in the results of the total Inland Empire, which includes Murrieta Valley, Redlands and other southern California powers, the duo were in the top 15 with their improved sub 19 times. Not bad for Frosh/Soph. Donnisha Johnson also made the all County team as she raced in the tough varsity girls race. Probably the biggest surprise of the day however was the falcons captain Priscilla Madera who laid down her best time ever and moved up to the number five position on the team. She was also in the top 15 of Riverside County seniors. This week the falcons will travel Wednesday to Kaiser for the second of the Sunkist League cluster meets. If the falcons duplicate their Bloomington performance it could be the clinching of the 2005 Sunkist League title. Saturday will find the falcons on their new campus for the running of the first ever Rubidoux Invitational. The event should be most interesting as teams from different parts of southern California and Arizona will battle on the new flat and fast campus course in their grade divisions for patches, trophys and bragging rights.

Fast Falcon Frosh/Soph Place Second at Brea
The Rubidoux girls this week ventured into Orange County and the 17th Annual Brea Invitational, held at Craig Regional Park, Fullerton. Facing some premium Southern Section teams the young falcons were up to the task, as they impressed onlookers with their 2nd place finish in the Frosh/Soph race. Jennifer Gonzalez (20.14) was especially impressive, as was Katherine Gomez (20.42) and Lucia Victorio (20.53) who continue to improve each week. Stephanie Gomez (22.29) improved on the gap between the #4 and #5 varsity runners, as she shrunk the gap by 30 seconds since last week on a tougher course. Team time improved from 98 minutes to 94minutes, which would have placed 4th overall. It looks like the falcons are rounding into championship form just in time for next weeks Inland Empire Championships that will pit the Riverside county teams against the San Bernardino squads. Donnisha Johnson (20.22) look much improved as she had the teams second fastest time, which put the top four within 39 seconds of each other. As the varsity tightens up on their times, the team is improving, looking stronger and stronger and may be the surprise of November.

Rubidoux Girls Win 2005 Hemet Invitational
Katherine Gomez (19.05) couldnt catch Ashley Beechan (18.58) from Hemet, the Frosh/Soph team couldnt place in the top three, the Junior/Senior squad could not place in the top three of their division however when they added the 7 best times of the day; The Rubidoux girls were the 2005 Hemet Invitational Team winner by 44 seconds over 22 fine teams from Riverside and San Bernardino Counties including host team Hemet and formidable Serrano. Hemets Beechan (18.58) had to set a Hemet record to beat the falcons Gomez who placed herself second on the all time Soph Hemet Invitational list. Freshman Jennifer Gonzalez (19.12) had the fastest frosh time of the day and earned herself #3 on the all time frosh list behind Serranos Kauren Tarver (18.07) and Great Oaks Lauren Campfield (18.52). Not bad for the improving Frosh who are making Rubidoux look better and better each week. Donnisha Johnson not to be outdone by the underclassmen had the 3rd fastest time of the day for juniors. Her performance placed her 3rd on the all time list as the top two; Hemets Mueller (19.00) and Serranos Moore (1933) improved the list times. Stephanie Gomez (21.34) had a top ten Frosh finish for the day and might be ready to close the gap on the top four. Alyson Barnes (22.08) and Belen Zepeta (22.41) were the deciding factors for the team win, as they were the all important 6-7 runners who put the falcons over the top and into patch country. Rubidoux Girls Stun Sunkist in League Opener
The Rubidoux girls, after a narrow miss at the 2004 Sunkist League title last year by 2 points, left little doubt in anybodys minds who was the 2005 team to beat in the Sunkist league opener at a tough Bloomington course which challenged all the teams in a warm afternoon sun and a prevailing wind. Norte Vista runners charged out to the lead in the opening loop but gave way in the top of the big horseshoe as the Rubidoux front-runners surged to the front and never looked back for the rest of the race. Katherine Gomez, Woodbridge Division II Soph winner last week made it two in row as she blistered the course with a winning time of 21.27. Freshman, Jennifer Gonzalez (21.33), 3rd at Woodbridge last week, made a late charge, passing teammate Donnisha Johnson (21.39) in the final strides as the falcons captured the top three spots in a race that was never in doubt. Lucia Victorio (22.50), battling veteran league runners was up to the challenge as she made a respectable showing for a freshman in her first league race placing 4th for the team and being the 7th runner in. Stephanie Gomez (25.30), yet another freshman came out of the pack, passing runners in the 3rd mile to complete the scoring five for the falcons and seal the win. Not only was the varsity impressive but also the Junior varsity, which opened the meet with a 1-2-3-4 finish. Priscilla Madera (26.07) also came flying off the horseshoe and never looked back as she won going away. Kryzia Olsen (26.09) was not far behind however as she charged the final loop and was only a few seconds behind. Sophomore, Ivet Ruiz (26.37) laid back in the pack and showed her experience as a varsity runner last year as she passed numerous runners in her final move of the race. Kaylyn Delgado (26.46), Frosh soccer player , was impressive again as she continued to improve and challenge the top runners. Possessing a gift of speed, she is looking better each week as she gets comfortable with the distance and the cross-country game; this might be a special runner in the making. Belen Zepeta (27.28), another veteran varsity runner from last year, who just got cleared and is rounding into shape could be another factor. Only time will tell as runners battle for varsity positions. This Saturday the Falcons will travel to Hemet Invitational for a Frosh/Soph Junior /Senior race which will give the falcons an opportunity to battle some tough teams including the always formidable Hemet Bulldogs.

Gomez Wins Woodbridge
Katherine Gomez with memories of last year being out kicked in the final 100 meters, ran away from the field this year posting a Rubidoux All Time Woodbridge best Frosh/Soph mark of 19.00. Previous top time had been held by Tricia Tressler (19.07)93. Distancing the field from the beginning, Gomez crossed the finish line a full 29 seconds ahead of her nearest rival. Donnisha Johnson, running in the tough varsity race, battling a large field, was able to post a respectable 19.34 and will improve on the tough Bloomington course. Jennifer Gonzalez (19.40) and Lucia Victorio (20.03), after an accidental start in a JV race were able to come back and place in the top five of the Frosh race. Alyson Barnes (21.41) who was the 7th man for the Falcons last week, turned in a big race as she moved into the #5 spot and looks to be ready to join the top four in rounding out the falcons scoring varsity. Stephanie Gomez (21.43) ran well also as she made the Rubidouxs top ten list for Woodbridge Frosh/Soph. Frosh soccer player, Christina Ascencio (22.44), still learning the cross country game continued to improve as she moved onto the varsity. Kryzia Olsen (23.09) turned in another good performance as she works hard to improve in the very competitive middle part of the Falcon team. Kaylyn Delgado (24.01), last week 13th on the team also made a major move up to the 11th spot. With better pacing and experience she could be the surprise of the season. The young varsity falcon team featuring two juniors, one sophomore and a host of Frosh continued to improve and impress, as it placed 54th out of 159 teams running in races of over 200+ runners. They also began to radically change the Rubidoux Woodbridge Frosh/Soph best list with major time improvements and new names. This could be the beginning of a very special team; only hard work and focus on the prize will tell. This Wednesday, at Bloomington, the falcons will open Sunkist League competition. This is what the season is all about. The cluster meet, which will feature all the teams in the league, will be run on a new challenging Bloomington course at about 3PM. Rubidoux the 2004 runner up in the Sunkist League by 2 points and the favorite this year, will be challenged by the always tough Norte Vista and the much improved Ramona squads. Bloomington may also post some surprises however all the teams realize Rubidoux in 2005 is the team to beat and the hill is steep.

Katherine Gomez (13.07), top runner returning from last year, started the 2005 season out with an outstanding race as she placed 8th in the tough Sophmore race. Donnisha Johnson (13.09) is rounding back into shape as she was close on the heels of Gomezs time in the Junior race. The fast Frosh race was the most exciting as Jennifer Gonzalez (13.45) and Lucia Victorio (13.52) went eight-ten and Stephanie Gomez(14.55) rounded out the top five for the team. In the final race, Priscilla Madera (15.10) ran probably the best race she has run in many years in the Senior race as she was the 6th runner for the team. Falcons Tiger Up at Final RCC Fun Run
The Rubidoux girls cross country team continued their success at Moreno Valley RCC Fun Run Series as Jennifer Gonzalez got the first place shirt and teammates took three out of the next four places. Running 3 miles Gonzalez just missed breaking 22 minutes, which was an excellent time for the three-loop course. Katherine Gomez, Lucia Victorio and Donnisha Johnson went three, four and five in a solid Rubidoux finish. Stephanie Gomez again was close as she continues to improve and will be an important part of the varsity this year. Captain Priscilla Madera moved up, as did Ivet Ruiz who is starting to look better. The Falcons now look forward to Sunset in the Park Race at Central Park next week in Huntington Beach where they will meet up with some tough Orange county teams.

Big Bear Camp at the Hammer Lodge
 | | | Top Two Up Summit Run |
The varsity returned to Riverside in time for a little McDonalds, some rest and 6PM practice. Big Bear Camp went well as the team started the week with a 8 mile trail run in the morning and a 2 x 2mile workout in the afternoon. The next day was the real test however as we challenged the Wall at Snow Summit Ski Area. Later that night the team would do a 6 mile recovery run and feast on Spaghetti at the Lodge. Wednesday under coach Hall the varsity did 25 barefoot strides on the grass at big bear stadium.
Tonight we travel to RCC for the final Fun Run. Friday there will be no practice as we will be going to Magic Mountain. Saturday there has been a change in plans as instead of running the Run Through The Pines , we are going to revisit the Wall at snow summit; leaving at 7A.M. sharp from Mission. Monday practice will start at Rubidoux Track; also first pool practice if we get the lifeguard. Bring swim clothes, towels, old running a shoes and regular running gear. Being able to swim not a problem as we will be working out in a shallow pool. This will be the Monday/Wednesday workout for the next two weeks. We will now meet at the Rubidoux football field by the scoreboard/Learning center. Next Thursday we will travel to Central Park , Huntington Beach for the Sunset run. Cost is $5 for the race which has a high school division. Leaving time to be announced. Make sure you dont miss practice at 6PM at new location. Team continues to get stronger and intensity of workouts will increase the next few weeks. This is the time that will tell whether we are a good team or a Great team. Work hard and focus on the prize. It is within reach this year with hard work and consistency. GO FALCONS!

Gomez and Gonzalez Battle for the Top Spot at RCC Fun Run
Sophomore Katherine Gomez, Rubidouxs top returning runner and incoming Frosh Jennifer Gonzalez are heating it up on the course as they prepare for the upcoming season. Battling all along the two mile Fun run course; Gonzalez leading the first mile and Gomez charging the last mile; not being decided until the last five yards. The match up is making both runners better as they move up the all time top ten list for the fun run. Rubidoux again as last week took the top four spots highlighting some of their exciting runners for the 2005 season. Johnson and Victorio continued to look good as they day lighted the rest of field, excluding Gomez and Gonzalez, by over a minute. Stephanie Gomez and Priscilla Madera continued to look like solid support for the varsity, as they turned in times in the mid 16s and low 17s. Stacy Smith, a Championship swimmer, trying cross country for the first time, made a big move and set a personal best for the race. With steady training this sophomore might be just what the falcons are looking for their championship run. Kryzia Olsen, second year runner had the biggest improvement for the team as she took one minute and half off her best time. Frosh Kaylyn Delgado in only her second race improved her time and seems to be learning the running game. The falcons will run this Saturday on the Indians Hills Golf course front nine as part of a JUSD Scholarship Benefit Golf Tournament. Next week part of the team will travel to big Bear for a varsity High altitude training camp with the big bear High School Cross Country team. For those not going there will be regular practice as usual with coach Dave and Mrs. Graf at Mission Middle School. There will be no more morning practice as summer school is now over. Pool workouts are slated for 8/15 -17 -22-24/05 at the Rubidoux Pool as long as we can get an approved JUSD lifeguard. Saturday, August 13, we will travel into the mountains for a change of pace and run a road race around Lake Gregory.

Falcons Not a Surprise This Year!
Young Falcons go 1-2-3-4 at RCC Fun Run 7/28.
The Falcons turned the RCC Fun Run into a Rubidoux Fun Run as their young team went 1-2-3-4 and showed some huge improvements. This team might be something special this year as new runners continue to impress and making the top seven spots is turning into a dog fight as the Falcons improve their times and gain experience. Sophomore Katherine Gomez (14.12) and Frosh Jennifer Gonzalez (14.19) made 30+ second improvements as they raced to a 1-2 finish at last nights RCC Fun Run on the RCC Moreno Valley campus. Their times were good enough to put them on the all Time Top Ten list. Gomez now has the 8th best time ever run for a girl and Jennifer as the 10th best. Not bad for a Soph/Frosh. Jennifer knocked Blanca Fernandez off the list who is now running for Cal State Fullerton and who made the list as a senior. Lucia Victorio (14.41) a fast improving Frosh was not far behind and may dip into the 14s next race. Junior Donnisha Johnson signaled she was rounding back into shape as she dropped her time by 35 seconds and is climbing her way back to the top where she and Katherine were the Falcons power in 2004. Stephanie Gomez (15.44) was another improving Frosh who had the biggest improvement by dropping her time by over a minute and continues to challenge for top spots. Kryzia Olson jumped from the 19s to the 16s and is zeroing in on the 15s. Steady improvement continues.

Saturday Pool Runners
Although few in numbers, the pool runners enjoyed a long run, pool recovery and some of Mr. Barnes famous Hamburgers.
Falcons Frosh/Soph Impressive at RCC Fun Run
Katherine Gomez started the season off just the way she ended it last year as the top falcon. Gomez (14.44) just missed making the all time top ten Performance list by six seconds. This was a 32 second improvement over last years time and has her on track for another Great season as a sophomore. Right on her heels was fab frosh Jennifer Gonzalez (15.00) who ran one of the fastest times ever for a falcon Frosh. Lucia Victorio (16.01), another frosh, just missed breaking 16 minutes but was racing green and will improve with experience. Alyson Barnes (16.43) an improvement over last year and Donnisha Johnson (16.45 rounded out the top five for the falcons. Stephanie Gomez (17.15), sister to Katherine and yet another Frosh, also looked good and will improve with practice and experience. Stacy Smith (17.19) improving Soph, a Championship Falcon swimmer, was flying as she is continues to learn about cross-country and could surprise in the future. Priscilla Madera improved by 16 seconds over last years time. As a team the falcons put five under 16.45 and with training now in full swing will continue to improve and harden for the Title run. A number of last years varsity were not able to run because of conflicts but will most assuredly boost the competition for those top seven spots. The race really showed the strength of the Falcons who this year will be the team to beat in the Sunkist League.

Rubidoux Girls XC News
Well we are off and running in every sense of the word. 6A.M. in the morning and 6P.M. in the evenings. The major practice is in the evening. I am really impressed with the talent of the girls coming out this year and also the veterans who continued their running through their dead period and are in excellent shape. We are in an excellent position to dominate the Sunkist League this year and I also feel a number of our runners have an opportunity to be League Champion. Returning our whole varsity and the possibility of improving overall bodes well for the Falcons this year. My goal this year is to build the team to about 30 runners. Another goal is to have at least five frosh, soph and Juniors/Seniors for the upcoming invitationals. After attending a couple of very informative clinics; I have decided this year to emphasize hydration and eating to win. Drinking a minimum of 64 oz of water a day is vital to running well in the heat. When you get up in the morning drink some water. When you leave your house drink some water. Every time you eat drink some water. Make it a daily habit. Also try throwing in some sports drinks such as Gatorade. Try to eliminate Carbonated Soft drinks and sugar drinks for the season. Orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juices are all good. Water is best! In the eating arena we need to eat six times a day. Breakfast snack Lunch snack Dinner snack. The total should add up to between 2000/3000 calories. 200-300 cal per snack and 500-700 calories for meals. Try to increase intake of fruits and vegetables and eat a variety of meats (protein/Iron). Carbohydrates are the energy booster so try to eat breads, tortillas, bagels, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc. Try to eliminate sweets and fats as these will rob your body. Try to 1.5 hour before practice drink at least 16oz of water and eat 200 calories for the workout. Eating afterwards within 30 minutes at the end of the workout and up to two hours, some sort of protein will aide in recovery. If youre getting aches and pains try eating bananas or avocados (potassium) daily. Water, Nutrition and daily practice will provide quality running. Hawaii Raffle Tickets: We are selling raffle tickets for $5; we keep $4. Money raised going towards uniform purchase which will start in August.
Do everything you can to be the best you can. Make sure you check our website for continual updates on our calendar and results. Looking forward to a great season!
