The first race begins at 8:00 am and the last race is scheduled for 10:45.

Click on the title for a link to the meet information page which includes bus time, full meet schedule and driving directions as well as other meet information.

Falcons fly to win first Sunkist League meet of the year.
The Rubidoux boys cross country team won the first Sunkist League meet of the 2006 cross country season.  The Falcons out ran the rest of the league taking the victory with a score of 30 points.  The Bloomington Bruins finished 2nd with a score of 44 followed by Jurupa Valley with 69 points.

In the Varsity race, Senior Juan Ruiz took the lead after one mile and was never caught. He ran away to finish with a course record time of 15:31.  Senior Edwin Ortiz made the race a little more dramatic by running in third place and waiting until the last half mile before taking the second position and finishing strong with a time of 15:48, the second fastest time ever on the 2 week old course.  After Bloomington put their top two runners across the line and the top Jurupa Valley runner finished Junior Juventino Roman used a strong kick to finish a strong race and cross the line in 6th place with a time of 16:18.  The Falcons #4-6 runners were not too far behind as Sophomore Steve Orta took 10th (16:47), Senior Abraham Perez was 11th (16:51) and Junior Sergio Sandoval was 12th (17:03) to give Rubidoux 6 runners in before Bloomington's 4th and before any other team could put even 3 across the line.  Junior Julian Vargas finished 22nd (18:31) in his first ever cross country race to round out the Rubidoux varsity squad.

The Rubidoux JV team had mixed results as Freshman Justin Samaniego overtook Bloomington's top JV runner with less than a half mile to go and pulled out the victory with a time of 17:43.  Sophomore Luis Aguilar was close behind in 3rd place (17:52) but Bloomington took the 4th, 6th, 9th and 10th places to earn the victory by only one point 31-32.  Sophomore Aaron Canchola was 7th (18:05), Sophomore Cory Burr was 8th (18:15), and Freshman Fernando Lozano was 13th (18:54) to round out the Falcons scoring runners.  Other Rubidoux runners in the JV race included Sophomores Jaime Leon (15th) and Matt Toyotome (16th) both with a time of 19:10, Junior Esteban Garcia (17th, 19:11), Freshman Logan McDonald (20th, 19:31), Junior Ervin Ramirez (29th, 20:39) and Senior Mobashar Zaman (33rd, 21:35).

Congratulations to all of the Falcons on an excellent meet.

Juan Ruiz Wins RCC Fun Run
The Rubidoux Falcon boys cross country team traveled to RCC-Moreno Valley on Thursday to try their hand at a race-like event.  RCC holds Fun Runs 5 Thursday nights during the summer and you never know who will show up.  Rubidoux brought 18 boys to the event and came away with some good experiences.  Senior Juan Ruiz won the 2 mile run with a time of 12:14.  Rubidoux had 3 runners under 13 minutes on the tough course and another 3 under 14 minutes.  For many it was their first ever race and the tough course was an eye opening experience.

Full results will be posted soon.  Pictures are already posted in the pictures section linked to the left.

Summer School Training Schedule
Those students that are attending summer school, there will be night practices Monday through Thursday at 6 pm so that you are still able to make it to workout with the team.  Since there are no classes on Fridays and Saturdays, you are expected to make it to these practices at the normal time, 6:30am.
Athletes who do not attend summer practices with the team will not be invited to the Mammoth Camp in August!

Monday, July 10
Mammoth Lakes Training Camp
03Camp11

The Rubidoux Boys Cross Country team will have a week-long training camp in Mammoth Lakes during the second week of August. A maximum of 7 athletes will be invited to the training camp.
The purpose of the camp is two-fold: First, we go there to get away from the daily routine of running in Riverside, and use the environment up there to train hard and rigorously! There is no better way to describe it than to say that the running we do in Mammoth is difficult. We train twice a day, the elevation is at 7,700' and higher, the hills are steep and long. The length of each run varies between 5 and 12 miles, but on average the runs last for about an hour. The second purpose of Mammoth is to work on creating a bond between team members.   The long road to success for our team goes through Mammoth Lakes.

Invitations have been extended to those athletes selected for the camp. Runners were selected based on attendance at practice, attitude while at practice, and ability. The camp will include long runs and intense workouts at high altitude. Because of the nature of the difficult training for the week and the safety concerns of running on the mountain trails, athletes must be able to run a minimum of 5 miles without stopping at a reasonable pace.
Other needs for the trip include: good training shoes, a watch with a stopwatch on it, a positive attitude and good academic standing. Athletes who will not be eligible to compete once school starts will not be invited to Mammoth. Athletes who do not attend practice with the team will not be invited to the camp. Those athletes who are in summer school are expected to be at practices Monday through Thursday evenings and Friday and Saturday mornings. The camp is quite expensive for the program, but the cost for the students will be limited to $50. The rest of the cost of the camp will be paid for by donations and sponsorships. For this reason it is important that all members of the team help with fundraising. You can find a copy of the fundraising letter in the handouts link on the left side of the page or linked below.

New Southern Section Rankings Include Rubidoux Boys
The latest rankings released by Dyestatcal this past week have the Falcons boys team ranked 20th in the Southern Section for Division 1. The rankings are beyond the usual 10 deep list and are compiled by Rich Gonzalez of Dyestatcal.

DIVISION I BOYS
1. Don Lugo, Chino – Results after Week 1 speak for themselves. Nice interchange among its scorers.
2. Royal, Simi Valley – Now at full strength for the first invite this year. Might have best depth around now.
3. Murrieta Valley, Murrieta – Sickness has exposed a depth weakness. Great quintet, so look out.
4. Dana Hills, Dana Point – Guess who’s back on the statewide scene? Youth only a mild concern.
5. Canyon, Canyon Country – Had its worst race of the year at Clovis. Good depth, but not much luck.
20. Rubidoux, Riverside – Will rise best among top 20 teams in next 4 weeks.

2003 Season is coming soon.
The 2003 Cross Country season is coming up soon. Summer running has started and the cool weather is hopefully allowing for an easy transition to the mileage of summer. The Falcons boy's team looks to keep its streak of league championships (Dating way back into their Ivy League years) going while the Lady Falcons look to return to the form that they exhibited in winning their first Sunkist League crown in 2000.
On the boys side, the league might be down from last year when 3 teams made it to the Div. 2 SS CIF Finals. The rebuilding RHS squad needs to find replacements for the loss of Antonio Jimenez, who ran 14:52 at Mt SAC and was 9th in the Foot Locker West Regional, Victor Ortiz, and Mobin Ghoury, who had been mainstays in the Falcon Varsity for 4 years. While the Falcons do have a lot of young runners returning, the team might be a bit off from its 2 years of Div. 2 SS CIF Championships, State Meet podiums and National Rankings. King also will need to do some major rebuilding as they return just one member of their SS Final team! Will this open the door for Norte Vista, who also made it to Div. 2 SS CIF Finals last season, to challenge the top 2 teams or will Coaches Gee and Peters simply reload their teams from the wealth of young talent that they have develpoed? Only time and a lot of summer mileage will tell.

The ML King girls look to repeat as league champs but will most likely be tested again by strong Norte Vista and Bloominton teams. King returns 6 girls who have run under 20:25 at Mt. SAC and 3 under 20:00! Norte Vista has 3 runners under 20:20.

Individually, Christina Olivas of Bloomington showed herself to be the class of the field last season as a sophomore. Olivas set the course record at Rubidoux and won the league meet at Bloomington by over 30 seconds, then went on to run a very impressive time of 19:04 in CIF SS Finals at Mt. SAC. She could be closely chased by Yessenia Cortez (19:36) of Norte Vista and a whole pack of challengers from King, including Morgan Sgorgan (19:13) and Megan Fairley (19:20).

The boys individual race should continue with the years of dominance by the Falcons. Top returning runners for the Falcons include Juniors Jose Maganda (15:52 at Mt. SAC) and Baltazar Landa (15:59). The only member of King's SS Finals team returning is Grant Carter (16:30) while Francisco Manzo (16:52) returns from Norte Vista's Finals team.

Inland Empire Championships preview
This weekend the Rubidoux High School cross country teams head to Guasti Regional Park in Ontario for the 2nd Inland Empire Championships. This meet brings together tons of teams from both Riverside and San Bernadino Counties. The highlights of the meet are the Boys and Girls Sweepstakes Races which bring together the top teams from each county for the big showdown. Last year, the Falcon's boys team took home the team title by beating other top teams like Temecula Valley, Murietta Valley and Don Lugo. This year the Falcons enter the race with some question marks after a couple of sub-par performances in recent weeks. They will be sufficiently challenged by a Murietta Valley team that has been on a roll as of late, including turning in one of the top team times at the Dana Hills Invitational.
Individually, Michael Poe (Etiwanda) and Erick Maldonado (Don Lugo) finished 1st and 2nd here last year and will look to repeat that performance. They will be challenged for bragging rights by Rubidoux's own Antonio Jimenez as well as Kellen Acosta of Murietta Valley.

The girl's Sweepstakes race features two of the region, state and countries top teams in Sultana and Murietta Valley. Last year's individual champion Liza Pasciuttu of Murietta Valley looks to repeat but could be challenged by Sultana's Kelsey Camara. Should be a great team race.

Dana Hills Invitational
With the Boys Varsity team in North Carolina, the rest of the Falcons headed to Dana Point for the Dana Hills Invitational. Click on the link above to check out the results of the meet.

1st Sunkist League Meet
The Rubidoux boys team won the first Sunkist League meet of the year, scoring 24 points against the rest of the league's teams. Seniors Antonio Jimenez (15:58) and Victor Ortiz (16:02) took the first 2 places as the Falcons had 5 of the top 10 runners.
The other scorers for Rubidoux were Jr. Adam Heredia (4th 16:03), Jr. Efrain Guerrero (7th, 16:11), and Sr. Mobin Ghoury (12, 16:32) M. L. King, currently ranked 8th in Southern Section Div. 2 by Rich Gonzalez, was second in the meet with 42 points followed by Norte Vista with 65. The vastly improved King squad was led by Jon MacLaughlin, 3rd in 16:03. The Falcons were using the meet as a tune-up for this weekend's big race in North Carolina and coasted for the victory. The last time on the course, the 2000 league finals, Jimenez ran 15:29, followed by Mobin Ghoury and Victor Ortiz, both in 15:41.

The Rubidoux girls team was led by Sr. Blanca Fernandez, who finished 12th with a time of 20:44. I will post more results as I get them. The team title went to the King girls who scored 32 points and had the individual winner in Megan Fairley (19:05).

Rubidoux Boys Nationally Ranked
The Rubidoux Boys cross country team is ranked #20 in the country by The Harrier magazine in its latest issue, based mostly on their results from the Las Vegas Invitational. The Falcons are ranked #8 in the West region. Long Beach Poly High School is ranked #12 in the country and #5 in the West region. Dana Hills High School which was previously ranked #4 in the country has dropped out of these rankings all-together. The top team in the national rankings put out by Mark Bloom is The Woodlands HS from Texas. Rubidoux will look to improve upon these rankings as they head to North Carolina this week for the Great American Cross Country Festival's Race of Champions.

Las Vegas Invitational
The Rubidoux Falcons once again stole the show at the Las Vegas Invitational this past weekend. The Boys Varsity team took top honors by winning the Large School section with a score of 71 points to Rancho Buena Vista's 84 points.

Rancho Buena Vista is the top ranked Div. 1 team in the San Diego area. Fountain Valley, ranked 5th in the Southern Section for Div. 1, finished in 3rd place. The Falcons also bested the top schools from Nevada as Centennial HS is the #1 ranked team in that State with Chapparel and Green Valley also in the top 10.

Senior Antonio Jimenez was the top Rubidoux finisher, placing 4th with a time of 15:28 for the 3.0 mile course. Fellow senior Victor Ortiz also made it into the top 10 with his 6th place finish in a time of 15:57.   Senior Mobin Ghoury (16:14 for 14th), Juniors Efrain Guerrero (16:21 for 19th) and Adam Heredia (16:39 for 28th) were the other scoring Falcons. Rounding out the Varsity were Junior Daniel Perez (67th in 17:48) and Senior Ivan Davila (92 in 18:24).

In the Boys Frosh Soph race the Falcons were nothing short of dominating! Freshman Rudy Palacios finished 5th in the race with a time of 15:21 for the 2.5 mile course but was only the 4th Rubidoux finisher as Sophomores Jose Maganda (14:40, 1st), Miguel Guerrero (14:47, 2nd) and Baltazar Landa (15:05, 3rd) swept the top 3 spots. Freshman Hared Perez (13th in 15:57 was the 5th Rubidoux scorer in the race and he was only beaten by 2 other school's #2 runners! The young Falcons scored 24 points to post anamazing victory in the race over Tuba City (127 points). In fact the second 5 RHS runners, Fr. Jonathan Arredondo (16:05, 15th), Fr. Curtis Iverson (16:08, 16th), So. Jesus Molina (16:32, 19th), Fr. Robert Medina (17:16, 30th) and Fr. Branden Carillo (17:33, 32nd), scored 112 points and would have been second in the race had they scored as a team! Freshman Max Hillyard (18:38, 53rd) and Memo Mendez (18:39, 54th) were the 11th and 12th, and final Falcons in the race but would have been in the top 5 on all but 2 other teams in the race! WOW!!

The Boys JV team placed 5th in their race with a score of 187 points as Jr. Azeem Ghoury led the way with an 18th place finish in 18:44 on the 3.0 mile course. Senior Rafael Marquez (19:36, 28th) was 2nd for the Falcons followed by Juniors John Knowles (19:53, 34th), Jerrick Ngo (21:35, 52nd) and Gerardo Gonzalez (21:42, 55th).

Senior Blanca Fernandez paced the Lady Falcons with a time of 18:37 on the 3.0 mile course. She was followed by Jr. Eva Esquivel (21:40), Fr. Priscilla Madera (22:17), So. Celina Pedersen (22:23), Jr. Karmin Perez (23:09), Jr. Nikki Pedrosa (23:23) and Sr. Talia Coiro (23:29).
Congratulations to all of theose runners who braved the heat of Southern Nevada for their first meet of the season (or ever for some of the newcomers).

National Ranking Finally!!!
The Rubidoux Falcons Cross Country team's incredible season earned them the national ranking they had been deserving for much of the season. Rubidoux was ranked #19 in the nation by Marc Bloom and "The Harrier" magazine's final 2001 poll after dominating performances in both the Southern Section and State Division 2 competitions. Only awful conditions for the California State Championships kept Rubidoux from ascending to a higher ranking, but they were among the top 20 teams in the entire nation as well as being the #2 team in the State of California.

2001 STATE CHAMPIONS!
The Rubidoux High School Boys Cross Country team captured the schools first ever State Championship by winning the Div. 2 race at the California State Cross Country Championships. On the rain soaked and muddy course in a virtual downpour the Falcons placed first with 63 points, beating the next school, Valencia, by 63 points.
Senior Lino Flores led the team by placing 9th with a time of 15:58, earning All-State honors. Junior Antonio Jimenez finished 22nd and led 5 Falcons across the line in the next 12 spots: Mobin Ghoury (28th), Jose Lopez (31st), Sal Rojas (33rd), and Victor Ortiz (34th). Freshman Jose Maganda finished in 51st place and was the fastest Freshman in the race and the 3rd fastest of any Freshman in all the races! When taking out the individuals running in the race, Rubidoux took 3rd, 10th, 14th, 17th, 19th, 20th, and 33rd. The Falcons were so dominant that only 4 teams had their second runner finish ahead of Victor Ortiz who was the 6th Rubidoux runner and only 1 team had their 3rd runner in ahead of Victor!
When all of the races were combined Rubidoux had the second fastest team time (Canyon was the top team) of all the schools running in the meet. In fact if Rubidoux had run in any race, they would have beaten every team except Canyon by point scoring including 3 teams that have been nationally ranked.
Congratulations to the Falcons and particularly to Coach Sam Gee for producing such an outstanding team.

CIF CHAMPIONS!!!!
The Rubidoux High School Boys Cross Country team claimed their first ever CIF championship this past Saturday by convincingly winning the Division 2 race.
The Falcons finished with a score of 62 points and the next closest team, Katella, had 130! Antonio Jimenez led the team with his 12th place finish followed closely by Jose Lopez, Mobin Ghoury, and Lino Flores who placed 19th, 20th, and 21st respectively! Jose Maganda rounded out the Rubidoux scoring 5 by placing 28th. Sal Rojas came in right behind Jose at 29th and Victor Ortiz was 44th to complete the Rubidoux team. As an example of how dominant the Falcos were, only 4 teams had their 3rd runner in before the Rubidoux's 7th scorer!!
Rubidoux had the 2nd fastest team time of the day, behind only the nation's #3 team, Canyon. The team time of 78:54 was slightly slower than last week's time but still faster than the next Div. 2 team by 1:34. Next week the Falcon's are aiming for the schools first ever State Championship!

Sunkist League Finals Athletes of the Meet
Sunkist League Finals: Mobin Ghoury won the Varsity race at the Sunkist League Finals on Rubidoux's home course. His time of 15:40 makes Mobin the 4th fastest person to ever run the Rubidoux course. After having stomach problems in the summer which limited his training, Mobin has returned better than ever.
Karina Ortiz finished as Rubidoux'x top runner in the Sunkist League Finals and placed 2nd overall. Her time of 19:47 would have made her the 7th fastest girl ever on the course if she wasn't already at #3!

Falcons return to Division 2!!
After fixing errors in the enrollment numbers sent to the state offices, Rubidoux High School was officially moved down to Division 2. The Falcons were moved to Division 1 earlier this summer based upon enrollment numbers that apparently had included students that should not be included in the figures. Once the administration realized the error, the correct numbers were reported and the school was placed in Division 2, where it should have been all along.
