The Boys Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Oneonta, New York this past weekend to play in the 2006 Mayor's "Cup" Soccer Tournament sponsored by the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, New York.
On Saturday September 9th the team left Rocky Point High School at 5am. The bus stopped in East Northport to pick up the John Glenn High School varsity soccer team who also participated in the tournament. The two teams played a first round game at 3:30pm on one of the four beautiful fields the campus had to offer. John Glenn won the match by the score of (3-1). In the other Division-D opening round New Hartford defeated Binghamton. The Hall of Fame is the site of all the New York State Boys' High School Soccer Championships and will host the 2006 games on November 19th and 20th.
The teams then traveled to SUNY @ Oneonta to shower and tour their first class athletic facility. The teams returned to the Hall of Fame to eat Brooks "famous" Chicken and enjoy the Hall of Fame's interactive game room and museum. The teams slept in the Hall of Fame, enjoyed breakfast and then played a second round game at 9:30am. John Glenn lost to New Hartford while Rocky Point defeated Binghamton by the score of (1-0). Ethan Goldman's unassisted corner kick was the game winner. Javie Rodriguez and Danny Sanvitale were outstanding. Goalkeeper Shea Frey posted the shut-out making 4 saves. The entire team contributed to a great weekend of soccer fun. New Hartford was crowned Division-D Mayor's "Cup" Champions as sixteen teams played in the weekend event. The team's then showered, ate lunch and returned to Long Island about 8pm on Sunday evening.
Rocky Point's game with John Glenn also counted as the first round of the Suffolk County P.A.L. "Cup" Soccer Tournament. While Rocky Point and John Glenn were in Oneonta, Westhampton beat Southold by the score of (2-1). The winners and losers will complete in the P.A.L. "Cup" finals on Staurday September 16th under the lights at Rocky Point High School.
The weekend trip was awesome and the start of what should be an exciting soccer
season. The players represented Rocky Point High School, their parents, their coaches and especially themselves in the very best possible way.

Congratulations on an awesome soccer trip !
Coach Ellis, Coach Reilly, and Coach Mauceri.
