Thank You's and Awards 2004-05 - From Coach Anders Thank you for the 2004-05 Season! Thanks to Char, Nelson, Holly, Mike, and Gina for this beautiful banquet, and thanks to Eileen and Laurie for telling people about it. Thanks to the cheerleaders for cheering, providing humour, painting the rocks and all else that they do. Thanks to Char Phillips for saving my butt, our butts, all year long. Thank Char also for not putting us back in the Hometel this year. Thanks to Dominatrix for making the poster and all of our sponsors for their sponsorship. Thanks to everyone I forgot to thank, and thanks to The Sears’ and Mac for the help at the Rock. Thanks to Mel and Susan all the office staff for the support. Thanks to Mike and Darren and Dave Chapman and Laurie and Stacey and all the rest of you for putting on the Rock Tournament; still one of the best tournaments on the West Coast. Thanks to all those who housed Hoquiam wrestlers. Thanks to Nelson for taking and printing off pictures all year long. Thanks to Rich Chwaz for being the best announcer in the state. Thank Rick Sassara and Mike Roberts for running the best web site in the state. Thanks to Grapplers Society and the Rockbusters and McMurray coaches and personnel for keeping Vashon Wrestling rolling. Thanks to Carl and Marcia for their weekly press releases. Thanks to the best coaching staff in the state—Per Lars, BJ, Blingham, and Werner. Thanks to all our volunteer coaches and alumni: Matt Werner, Josh Thorn, Josh Gardner, Evan and Ryan Mattingly, Paul Rudisky and Laurin Daniels. And thanks to all you parents for laying back and trusting the coaches and enjoying the season with us—it has been the easiest and most rewarding season, at least since I’ve been back here. Thanks to the team for doing well academically—3.34 GPA. Thanks to the team for being selfless and putting their team goals ahead of individual aspirations—going down and up weight classes all year long. And lastly, thanks to these Pirate Wrestlers for wrestling their arses off, pushing their teammates and believing in the system. Something was working. Let’s give a round of applause for the Nisqually League Champs, the District Champs, the Regional Runners-up and the 7th at state Vashon Pirate Wrestlers! +++---Senior Awards: We’ll Miss these guys! My Academy Speech: So, I was going to make this out like the Academy Awards. I taped the ceremony last weekend, and practiced all week before coming the realization: I’m not a funny as Chris Rock. But, needless to say, there are awards. These awards were voted on by Washington State Wrestlers. Wrestlers from Connell, Warden, Lakeside, Hoquiam and others logged onto our website to vote. Check out the results: Dominatrix won the Best Streaker (At first I thought Blingham won this, but after a little research I figured out that he voted for himself 4 times, and thus was disqualified). The Quarter Nelson Award also goes to Dom, and was clinched by some votes from Cashmere. The best liar award goes to Big Will Olsen. He also won the Rapper of the year award with Puff Daddy for his tight ass rhymes: “I’m so huge, I’m so big can’t you see, Watch out for my headlock Amberle.” Anders Blomgren was officially deemed the Hummer Champion, spotting at least 16 on the way to Tri State. Mayshark wins the Russian Tie award and the Future Personal Trainer Award—the latter was voted on by Katzer after Duncan counseled him on his weight routine in the waning seconds of their match for 7th and 8th. Coach BJ Nelson won the Baby Face Award. Go figure. The unanimous winner for the Cage Fighter Award was Alex Stemer: he never had problem in the down position, or even when he was stuck in a cage by the Hoquiam coach Hartzell. Steamboat also won the Grizzly Award for beating both Juan and John Descher 12 times during the year. The Tannest Wrestler and the North Carolina Take Your Shirt off Awards both ended in a tie: Guess who? David Twietmeister and Larry the Lefthanded Landlord Ligrano. Mr. Hendrix is now retiring so I see a bright future for both of these guys. The Mustache Award goes to Alex Gateman and Alex Stemer. David Twietmeister wins the best by being shocked by Wiley Award who said: “I didn’t vote for myself really” even when there were 3200 votes for him as of last night. Larry the Lefthanded Landlord won the Lefthanded Landlord Award for evicting 27 tenants with his left handed headlock. He was also on hand to try to evict Mike Mattingly during his famous move, but Mike Re-Rolled his headlock for 2 takedown and 3 near fall—Remember Mike was ranked #2 in the state for head and arm rerolls in the 60’s. Ed King won the best performance during an injury timeout when he was bleeding at North Mason. King Jr. also won the Bling Bling Award, to be handed out later by coach Bling Bling himself. Spanaway Stephe won the Grunt Like You’re Changing a Carburater Award. He also was the runner up for the Dapper Dan Award after slicking his hair back for his match in the Rock Finals. Carly Berry won the Chat Competition over Coach Blingham who was the reigning champ for the past 10 years. Alex Laughlin won the “Down 14-2 How About You Award” as well as the Ingrown Hair of the Year Award. Wiley Won the Free Running World Championships and the Gremlin Award, as well as the Best Gas in English Class Award. Dr. Werner wins the Who’s this Guy Award. Collette was voted future Rock Star by the Wolzcko Brothers. Work wins the best wrestling fan award and the Headlock Heard Around the World voted on by the Hoquiam coaches. Micah and Eric Anderson win the Most Likely to be on Steroids Award. Just ask Jose Canseco. I also expect Eric to be chosen as the Pickle Factory Foreman next fall. Tech Fall Phillips wins the Mike Mattingly Award. Ha ha ha ha… He also received a Doctorate in Intensity for swallowing down 6 jars of bean dip and salsa without a spoon. Dom wins the Timmy Robinson Award. “Ain’t that right Timmy?” Freight Train wins the Ankle Pick Lateral Drop and the Lakeside Coaches voted him in as the Duckbutter Champion after watching him in his match for 3rd and 4th at state. Micah wins the Best Actor Award after pretending to be knocked out in his match in the state semifinals. Alex Getting His Groove On Gateman won the DJ of the year and he also gets the Best at Being Bean Dipped Award. Conclusion: We’ll miss the seniors, but tonight we should rejoice in the fact that we won the Shower State Championship this year. Congrats! All those Returning: Remember! Remember the fundraisers: K2, Motorcycle Rally, and the Triatholon. Also, Freestyle Practice and our Clinics: April 2 and 3rd on the island. And June 21st at Sequim. Camps: Intensive: June 25-July 1st Lake Stevens Technique: June 20-24. (Commuter Camp) And stay active and out of trouble. |
