Josh "Gardenburger" Gardner (Sr.) - State Runner Up
Don't let the vegan moniker fool you, he's a mean, onery, surly sort that'll just as soon tear you limb from limb as look at ya. Okay, not really. If you want to get to know Josh, just say hi...but be pepared to talk a while. A true leader on the 2003 team, three state appearances...three state medals, this year with a second place finish. We hope to see him tearing it up in Canada next year.
Sam “Crazyhorse” Wojcik (Sr.) - State Participant
Somebody should tell this guy that the 70's are over. I've haven't seen such a selection of polyester clothes since Mick Guglamo's college graduation pictues. But it appears to be working for Sam. Not only can he do the Hustle on the dance floor, he can hustle in the wrestling room. "Talk don't make work". And the work payed off with a 4th seed to the State Tournament. Great job this year Sam!
Evan "Mad Dog" Mattingly (Jr.) - State Champion
Evan likes gardening, long walks on the beach and sunsets. His life long ambition is to grow a mustache like his father (although the version above is more like Mick Guglamo's) and of course to win it all at 189, which is what he did this year. But how tough is he really? Well I've seen his little brother stick him about a million times...and he's just a Rockbuster!
Nick "Rumble in the Jungle" Berry (Jr.) - State Champion
State Champ. Didn't give up a takedown in the State Tournament. A few of us were distressed this year when he came out with his new hair style. Which of course is somewhat normal. Without the green, red, orange, purple or blue, we worried where his creative outlet would be. Apparently it's on the wrestling mat.
Paul "Rudy" Rudisky (Jr) - State Runner Up
Having dinner at Paul’s house can mean sitting down with three generations of great wrestlers. So you might expect the topic of conversation to be wrestling. Yep, it usually is. Okay sometimes it veers off course to things like grocery bills (which can be staggering), but wrestling is always brought up. Now Paul has braging rights with his 2nd place finish at the State Tourney. Be sure that he can make the next step up...everyone that knows him sure does. As it says in the program; Watch Paul “Rudy” Rudisky this year—he will be exciting, funky and he will do very well. As he often says, “After all, sometimes I’m a bad ass.” The truth is, he has to be just to get through dinner.
Robert "Haywire" Bennedson (Jr.) - 4th in State
Robert's tore up the mat at 160 this year winning at Regionals and placing 4th at State. His dogged determination and efficiency is probably due to the diet that got him there. You see he likes to eat, and the quicker he's off the mat the sooner he can dive into a sandwich. He's great fun to watch, and just a good guy.
Benji Staadacker (Jr.) - State Participant
Ben “Wah” Staadecker, 119 lbs
Benji was last heard saying "Hey, I've got credentials!" after his appearance at state this year. Next year expect him to add a State medal.
Josh "the Silent Assasin" Thorn (Jr.) - 7th in State
This guy just improves and improves. He wrestled a fantastic State Tournament finishing 7th, and most importantly beating the kid that beat him in the first round sending him to the loosers bracket. "Never NEVER give up" Look for him to place even higher next year.
