Little League International Announces Bat Rule Changes for 2012 Season

Updated 11/2/2011

The moratorium on composite-barreled baseball bats remains in effect. However, some composite-barreled baseball bats that have been proven in laboratory testing to meet the BPF (Bat Performance Factor) standard throughout the life of the bat, through the Accelerated Break-In (ABI) process, have received waivers.

That list is here: Licensed/Approved Composite 2 1/4 Bats.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

December 6, 2011

Parents, Players and Supporters of River Park Little League;

I would like to thank all of you for an exciting 2011 season at River Park and take a few moments to highlight and close 2011 then bring you up to date with our 2012 season just around the corner. Our 2011 season provided many wonderful moments and several unique challenges.  My hope is you remember the wonderful moments and, thanks to a supportive Board of Directors and many willing volunteers, the challenges have become an afterthought. With a Little League rule change we began 2011 with eighteen four year olds playing T-Ball. With new players we have new coaches, team moms and a new group of dedicated volunteers. One Hundred fifty new players and their families joined the River Park Little League family. Our 2011 four year olds still have eight additional years to have fun learning the game of baseball, making new friends and learning to hold their heads high in victory and defeat.

Our season champions in our Major and AAA divisions were each victorious in winning the District 10 Tournament of Champions (TOC).  This is single elimination play against the other 15 league champions within our district. Congratulations to the Major Tigers and AAA Yankees. This makes four consecutive years with RP winning both the Major and AAA TOC!  River Park also placed two of our three All Star teams in their respective state championship tournaments. Congratulations to our 11yr old and 10yr old All Star players and coaches for your great representation of River Park Little League. If you would like to know what it takes for a team to qualify for a state all star tournament and the quality of play we have here at River Park you need to know the following fact; only 6 teams, in each age bracket, out of 360 Northern California leagues and 77,000 players will make it to this level!

River Park conducted two tournaments this past year. The First Annual Harry Goorabian Memorial Day Tournament was phenomenally successful. Twenty eight teams from around Fresno and as far away as Turlock were amazed at the beauty of Harry Goorabian Park and thrilled to play on fields we have the privilege of enjoying every day of the season. Our Fall Ball league this year saw another twenty eight teams from River Park and around Fresno enjoying their Sunday afternoon’s at the park. The financial success of these tournaments played a big role in offsetting the impact of a reduced enrollment and unexpected expenses.

Our biggest challenge this past year was the repeated flooding of the park. Five different times our fields were under water. During one of these floods we actually had two infields under renovation.  Season games were required to be rescheduled and a massive cleanup ensued.  On several occasions the snack bar was flooded and the ice cream freezer was destroyed (a new freezer was purchased in October and we will again have ice cream in 2012).   Yes, our fields are still part of the Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District and subject to flooding. I want to thank the many volunteers that helped clean and restore the fields and facilities.

River Park Little League is a non-profit organization and would not survive without the dedication of our Board of Directors, managers, coaches, and the mom’s and dad’s that helped with our various league fundraising events, field maintenance between games and the individual team activities.  We all thank you for your support.

This month we opened on-line registration for returning players.  New player registration will take place at the clubhouse each Saturday in January. You can visit our web site www.riverparkll.com to view specific dates for registration, tryouts, opening day, and other league functions.  Our season will begin Saturday, March 3 and we expect another 1,500 attendees to kick off another great year at Harry Goorabian Park.

As we prepare for the upcoming season I encourage each of you to volunteer your time in some capacity. Player registration fees only cover 1/3 of our annual budget.  We rely on the many volunteers, individual and corporate sponsors and fundraising events to help maintain our league.  We will need new coaches and team moms in each division.  This is where it begins.  Some of you will be fortunate enough to have your sons play for a state championship and a few of you will be in a position to coach a state championship team. You will make many new friends from our community and be rewarded with the satisfaction of providing your kids the opportunity of playing, and enjoying our great facility.

Several area baseball camps are available over the holiday season if you would like to have your son or daughter get a preseason tune up.  Information is available on our web site.  Several rule changes, a regulation bat policy update, and additional season information will help you to plan your spring weekend activities with River Park Little League. We wish you a safe and joyous Christmas and holiday season and look forward to seeing each of you March 3, 2012 at our opening day festivities.

Regards,

Steve Winn President River Park Little League
