BREAKING BARRIERS: BRANDON SMITH

"Have you ever been faced with a barrier due to someone else’s negligence or bad judgment?"

So starts an essay written by Rincon Little Leaguer, Brandon Smith.  The essay was written as a submission for a contest called "Breaking Barriers in Sports, in Life."  Honoring the anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball in 1947, students are asked to write an essay about a barrier they have faced.  Using one or more of Jackie's nine values, students explain a personal barrier they overcame.

Brandon tells his own inspirational story best ... you can view a video of it he produced on YouTube at this link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEthpd8Ph7o. (Kids, get your parents permission.)

Brandon won 1st Prize in the essay contest.  As a result, Jackie's daughter Sharon came to Brandon's school to honor him.  Then the Arizona Diamondbacks hosted him as a special guest at a recent game.  He met players in the dugout, received an award on the field and watched the game from behind the D-Backs dugout (within full view on the Fox Sports broadcast).

Rincon Little League sincerely thanks Brandon for his inspiration and example of Little League's values of Character, Courage and Loyalty.

OPENING DAY

The season kicked off with a great Opening Day Ceremony, parade of teams, jumping castles, food and the first game of the season between the Dodgers and the D-Backs.

THANK YOU JILL AND GARETT

At Opening Day, Rincon recognized two special folks who have each served Little League for the past ten years.

Jill Gonzales and Garett Cunningham have each given of themselves endlessly.  Without these two individuals, Rincon Little League would not be the outstanding League it is.

 Thank you, Jill and Garett.

SCOREBOARD INSTALLED!

Our new scoreboard is installed and operating!  The scoreboard was kindly donated by Dr. Andrew Rosen, a local orthodontist who has enhanced the smiles of many Rincon Little Leaguers.  Thank you, Dr. Rosen!
