THE RICHMOND RATTLERS

Founded in 1998, the Rattlers began as an all-star team of 12 & under players from Ashland Skateland in Ashland, VA. Known originally as the Ashland Rattlers, the club was subsequently sponsored by Hyper and was called the Hyper Rattlers until 2004, when it changed its name to the Richmond Rattlers.  This name change helped to identify the organization with all the players from the Greater Richmond Area. 

Thanks to the help of many great players, parents and coaches, the club has grown over the years into Central Virginia's premier inline youth hockey organization. Now in its fifteenth season, the Rattlers have a proud tradition of excellence in age groups from 8u to 18u. 

The Richmond Rattlers are THE travel inline hockey organization in the region.  No travel inline program in Virginia or any of the states around Virginia have had the success that the Rattlers have experienced over the years.  We have the LARGEST organization with 10 plus teams each season and the most successful program.  Over the years the organization has won multiple National Championships from AAU, ECHO, 2Hot4Ice, Coastal Cup, Winter Wars and The Junior Olympics!

Tryouts are usually held in the first quarter of each year, and the Rattlers field 2 (and sometimes 3) teams per age division:

·        The Black Team is the top team for each age division and is primarily made up of players that are the top birth year for that age division.

·        The Orange Team is the second or younger team for the age division.

·        A Grey Team may be fielded for a certain age division if there are enough players who don’t want to commit to a full travel schedule.

 ·        A White Team may also be fielded for a certain age division, but this is a "select" team.  Players do not try-out, they are chosen by the coaches.  This is a rare occurrence, and usually only happens in the older age divisions (16U & 18U).

Teams are set by birth year, and an player can learn more about his or her birth years team by clicking on the "TEAMS" link in the Menu Bar on the left hand side of the page.  All tryout information will be posted on the organization's website.  Detailed information can be found in the Operations Manual located on the Handouts Page, as well as copies of all necessary forms.  The Rattlers use Shooters Indoor Sportsplex in Midlothian, VA as a home rink.  Additional information regarding the organization can be found by contacting the rink directly or on the Rattlers website at: www.richmondrattlers.com

The Richmond Rattlers are now on Facebook!  This group will be used to send out info about our organization from time to time, and it also allows for the members of The Rattler Nation to share videos, pictures, and comments.
