Fall 2010 Season Wrap up

Way to go Rev's!

The 2009-2010 12U Rev's wraped up their fall campaign last weekend with the NSS Fall Classic Tournament in Powhatan, VA.  The fall season conssited of 5 tounaments, 3 doubleheaders and numerous scrimmages with our local friends, thanks Baseliners and Bandits.  I am not sure we could have played much more this fall than we did.  Way to go girls.

We want to thank all of the coaches and parent's for their support and dedication to the team.  You all are the best!

We had a great season for our first season at 12U.  We are very young with 7 girls only 11 years old and 1 even younger at 10.  Our 3, 12 year olds, (Kayla, Hayley and Maria) provided great leadership and really helped out our younger players as they made the transition from 10U.

We will move inside starting next month practicing at our new Revolution Team Training Center.   We can't wait until next season and hopefully a return trip to ASA Naitonals this time at the 12U level.

Let's Get Rev'ed Up!

12U Revolution Places 3rd in Potomac River Clash

The 12U Revolution ended their first tournament of the season and the first as a 12U team tied for third place after the rain cut short what would have been a very good day for the Rev's.  The team opened pool play with lack luster performance which resulted in the 15 run loss to the McLean Mystics.

The young Rev's fought back and beat the Germantown Titians for the first time in six contests.  The Rev's were lead by a great pitching performace in which Kayla B. who pitched a two hit, eight stikeout gem on the way to a 4-1 victory.

In the Rev's third and final game of the day the Rev's pitchers contined to dominate as Hayley R. pitched a two hit, six stikeout, rained soaked dandy as the Rev's beat the Baseliner for the second time this year 9-4.  In this game the Rev's bats came alive and thery were lead by Jessi A. and Shelby D. who had doubles and scored very important runs for the Rev's.

After the third game the fields were closed due to the pouring rain and they could not recover from the downpours that occured all night long.  Based on their pool play record the Rev's finished tied for third place.  The Rev's coaching staff was most pleased by the the way they girls bounced back from a poor first game to play two of their best and winning two game in a row!

The Rev's are back in action next week in the NSA "Play for a Cure" in Sterling, VA.

Revolution 98 Brings Home 1st Place!

The Revolution 98 brought home first place at the USSSA  Mid-Atlantic Open this weekend played in Olney, MD.  The Rev's started off slow with their only loss of the tournament to the Clarksburg Champions.  They rebounded with a slaughter rule victory of the MD Surge.  The Rev's finished 5th outh of 10 in pool play and had their work cut out for them on Sunday during elimination play.

The Rev's opened up on Sunday with the 4th seed and host Olney Cougars.  The Rev's fell behind early  6-0 but the Rev's never gave up and won in come from behind fashion 7-6 in 6 innings.

Next up was the #1 Seed HCYP Liberty.  The Liberty had not given up a run all weekend.  The Rev's jumped on the Liberty pitching fast and took a 10-2 lead after 2 innings.  Never giving up the Rev's knocked off the top seed to earn a trip to the Championship game.

In the Championship game the Rev's beat the Croften Stars by 10 runs on the way to the Revolution's  first championship.  The game was not even as close as the score looks.  The Rev's pitching and lock down defense were the keys to the victory.  The Rev's finished the tournament 4-1.

The Revolution 98 now will get ready to represent LGSL. Leesburg and Virginia in the ASA Eastern National this week in York, PA.  Eighteen teams in states from Maine to Ohio and Virginia are competing for the title of best team in the east!

Revolution Players Announced

The 10U Revolution are proud to announce they have added two members to the Spring/Summer 10U roster.

Curry D. is currently a 5th grader at Balls Bluff.  She  played in LGSL for several season with the Fillies and left to play in LGLLS but she came back home to LGSL after only one season in the other league.  She returned to the Fillies and she played a huge role in many of the Fillies victories last Fall.  Curry is catcher who has some great skills and is fearless behind the plate.  Curry will contribute no matter what position she is asked to play.  She has a huge heart, she give 110% all of time and is a joy to coach.

Olivia H. is currently a 5th grader at FH Reid.  She played in LGSL for several season on the Fillies and left to play in LGLLS but she came back home to LGSL after only one season.  She also returned to the Fillies and was a major contributer to the Fillies success last fall.  Olivia has developed into a solid pitcher with a strong bat and great skills in the field.  She will play many different positions this season for the Revs'.  She is a welcome addition to the Revolution familiy.

Questions and Answers

We have received a number of questions concerning what is commitment level if my daughter makes the 10U Revolution.  The 10U Revolution for the fall season will play a limited schedule as we introduce “travel” softball to the girls and their families.  The girls will be required to play on a house league team as well as practice with the house team.  It is important at this age to have the social interaction with as many other girls as possible.

The 10U Revolution will practice once a week during the house league season.  They will play in a Fairfax Travel League, which plays doubleheaders on select Sundays.  The coaches will select which Sundays the team will play.  The plan is currently to have the girls play 4 Sundays during September and October.  The team will enter 2-3 local weekend tournaments and an end of season tournament that will require an overnight stay.

The 10U and 12U programs will attempt to coordinate these tournaments so that they are in the same location for the families with players on both teams.  This will also build a sense of camaraderie between the two teams, as they will be together at each event supporting one another.

The 10U Revolution is a 1-year commitment.  That is not to say that coaches will not select a player that will age out in December for the fall season.  If we have girls that age out or leave the team, we will hold tryouts in the spring.  Girls that make the team in fall will not have to tryout again until the following fall.

During the winter off-season the coaches will plan several training opportunities for the girls at various locations.

The cost for each player has not been finalized but it will be in the $275-$300 range.  This will include the cost of the house league.  Fund raising can help offset this cost and we will ask for assistance from parents to help coordinate a number of areas including fundraising.  The LGSL travel program is financially independent from the house league and must be financially self-sufficient.  LGSL will provide team insurance and an initial set of equipment but the team must pay for all other costs associated with a travel program.  Transportation, meals and lodging costs are the responsibility of each parent.  Fundraising can offset these cost as well.  The Revolution is under the 501 C3 of LGSL and Babe Ruth Softball.

If you have, any further questions do not hesitate to contact the coaches at 10Urevolution@leesburggirlssoftball.org
