Boing!, Arborway win championships
When the skies finally cleared after more than a week of gray and rain, Boing! and Arborway Auto took advantage of a glorious evening for softball to upset their respective division leaders for the 2009 softball championships. Boing! surged past a strong Southern JP Health Center team for a 9-4 win, taking the AAA crown. Arborway squeezed past Yumont Hardware, 9-8, in the first game of a double-header, then came out strong against the division-leading Boston Building Materials Co-op, winning the game, and the AA championship, 17-9, as darkness fell.

Growing new talent on the Farm
AAA Softball Action, May 9, 2009
Pitcher Jamie Murray (top left) winds up to deliver another strike as the Maura Hennigan (AAA) beat Southern JP Health Center, 13-3. SJPHC didn't go quietly, with Allie Kennelly and Megan Gillis (top right) threatening on third and second. First baseman Bria Fredericks (bottom left) keeps Kate Oldshue close to first.

Pitching clinic a success!
More than 20 pitchers and pitchers-to-be took part in the third annual Regan League softball clinic.
Led by coach Melissa Gerber, the players learned a series of warmup drills and technical tips to prepare them for success on the mound. While the AAA softball division (ages 12-14) has always had players pitch, this is the first year that the AA division (ages 9-11) have been allowed to pitch instead of coaches. So far they are off to a good start and we have seen an improved level of play compared with past years.
Participating AA players included Polly Doogue, Marielle Zeina, Shaina Jewett-Wolf, Isabel Greenberg, Aimee Styklunas, Shaianne Innocent, Shamyia Banks, and Taina Gonzalez. AAA pitchers also attending were Jamie Murray, Kate Oldshue, Raven Williams, Sophie Zenia, Sally Gillis, Abbie Kaplan, Althea Berg, and Kirstyn O'Brien.
Play Ball!
Blue skies, warm weather, and Manny Del Carmen helped make this year's Opening Day parade a huge success. Players from T-ball to Pony and AAA Softball thronged Centre Street on their way from the Eliot School to Daisy Field. The Boston Fire Department and the Regan League Preservation Jazz Band led the way, while a color guard from the Esperanza Travel Cardinals brought up the rear with the American flag. Michael Frank, who led the Regan Youth League for eight years, was honored with a monogrammed warm-up jacket and a Tee Ball team named in his honor.
Red Sox ace Manny Del Carmen, who started his baseball career in the Regan Youth League, told the crowd at Daisy Field that dreams can come true when they are nurtured by hard work and supported by family, teachers, coaches, and friends.
