Dear Parent/Guardian:
My coaching staff and I would like to thank you for the opportunity to work with your son/daughter this year and for supporting their participation in the track program at Reed High School. Our track program has a tradition of excellence. As a coaching staff we strive to provide our athletes with a well maintained facility, up-to-date training and event equipment, and as many opportunities to compete as possible. Our main concern is that your child’s experience is a safe one, with the greatest opportunity for success and achievement possible. As a program, each year we set both short term and long term goals. Last season we were able to achieve many of our goals: last year we were able tape measuring for long/triple/pole vault and shot/discus events, 2 indicator boards for field events, discus sector nets, pole vault equipment, update our timing system and traveling expenses for 2 California track meets. We are constantly striving to keep our timing system updated; to make sure it is the best for those that compete at our school. Some of our short term goals for this year are to purchase jump ropes, more medicine balls, 2 more indicator boards for field events, standards for high jump, a second video camera, and to upgrade our shot put and discus ring areas. Our goal this year is to go to two California Invitationals; requiring funds for entry fees, travel and lodging. Our program long term goals are to replace our track, get a new press box and buy new pole vault pits. Our goal, as a program, is to raise at least $40,000.00 this year. In order to accomplish our goals we are asking for your help in fundraising. We have several fundraising opportunities this year to help raise the money to reach our goals. Our biggest fundraiser is the Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational Track Meet, which we host. This year it will be held March 29 & 30, 2013. Over 30 high schools with more than 1600 athletes have participated in the invitational in the past and we anticipate the same this year.
- As we host Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational, this event is a significant source of fund raising for the program. We will need your help in the snack bar and help run events.
- For the Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational Track Meet we ask local businesses to sponsor the events for a small donation of $50.00 per event. All $50.00 will go toward your child’s fundraising efforts.
- Another fundraising opportunity is to sell stadium signs to local businesses; there are two size options to choose from, $250 for the small sign and $500 for the large sign. All $250 or $500 goes toward your child’s fund raising efforts.
- We will also be selling cookie dough at $17.00 a box. Each athlete will earn $6 for every box he/she sells to go toward his/her fund raising.
- Our program is in the process of putting together a couple of Fun Runs this summer and Fall. We will be need parent and athlete volunteer help to help run these events.
We are excited about these opportunities and the prospect of achieving our team goals. Fund raising helps your child on an individual level, as well. Your child can use each of our fundraising activities to earn his/her Spirit Pack. The greatest financial investment for each individual athlete is the cost of their team uniform plus $50.00. This year your child's Spirit Pack will be offer several different items. All uniform fees and completed Spirit Pack Order Form will be collected on Parent Night, Thursday April 28, 2013 at 6:30 pm in Reed's Cafeteria. Please note that your child can, however earn the Spirit Pack items for free, through fundraising efforts. There are additional incentives for raising funds beyond the package of choice, as well; for example travel bag, shoes and cash prizes. If your child raises the full amount of his/her Spirit Pack then we will refund your check for the full amount. If your child does not raise the full cost of the Spirit Pack, whatever amount your child raises, you will be refunded that amount. We will hold your check upon your request only until March 31, 2013.

# Returning athletes who already have the required uniform are only required to fund raise $50.00 or pay $50.00. For a uniform top or bottom only the cost of each would be $35.00 each
Additional incentives:
* If your child raises $500.00 he/she will earn a pair of shoes (up to $100.00 value).
* If your child raises $600.00 he/she will earn a pair of shoes (up to $100.00 value) and a $50.00 item from the catalogue.

We want them to be able to participate without having a lot of costs and expenses.
