Racers Gold earn 2nd place in 2008 Midwest Invitational
AP - Fishers, IN
The Gold team earned its way to the AA finals and finnished in 2nd place in the 2008 Midwest Invitational.
In the championship game, Racers Gold team fell 4-1 to the Formidable Kirkwood Stars AA from St. Louis, MO. The Racers fell behind 1-0 early as Kirkwood took advantage of an early power play. After tying the game at 1-1, Kirkwood scored to make it 2-1. The two teams skated to a scoreless tie in the second period. In the 3rd period, the Stars struck twice and took the title as the final score was 4-1.

Racers Gold defeat Racers 98, 5-2

The Racers defeated the Racers 98 team 5-2 as the entire team played well in the victory. The game was never in doubt as the Gold jumped out to a commanding 4-1 lead and cruised to the 5-2 win. Great job Racers!

Racers defeat Komets AA

The Racers Gold came out strong and notched their second league victory over the mighty Komets AA of Ft. Wayne. With the BTHL standings solidified for the Gold, it was for Red Racer pride to win game one and remain undefeated against the Komets in the first three league games. Jeff " Flash Gordon " Gerst netted the Racers first goal to pull even at 1-1. Darin Fox was on his game as he saved 20 of 22 shots. JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg scored the Racers's final 3 goals in earning a hat trick. JJ's first of the 3 goals was the most memorable as he was able to out-hustle a Komet defender on the way to the net. Salkeld, Eaton, Broviak, Dirscherl, and Nelson played very well on defense. The forwards skated hard and were able to make the most of their shots on goal as they were led by Gerst, Fruedenberg, Mackellar, Lawson, Sattler, Pippen, Ingle, Bolger, and Heffernan. The team tributed their victory for their teammate Quinn Cuthbert who was unable to play due to being ill.
By defeating the Komets in game 1 of league action, the Gold won the series 2-1-1 in the four BTHL games. Later that evening, The Gold team fell 4-1 to the Komets as the Gold had little left in their legs, and the Komets were eager to finish in 2nd place in the BTHL standings. Despite the finish, the Gold head into the Buckeye Tournament with confidence and riding a record of 5-1-1 record in their last 7 BTHL games. Go Racers!

Racers undefeated in 2 games versus Cyclones

The Racers Gold gained 4 more BTHL points and improved its overall record with 2 league wins in AA action against the Cincinnatti Cyclones AA #2 team.
In game 1, The Racers blasted the Cyclones 6-2 as Sattler and Freudenberg both netted 2 goals! George Pippen and Nick Broviak netted the other 2 as the game was never in doubt. Pippen recorded 2 assists and Eaton and Sattler earned helpers as well. Despite the impressive win, the Racers spent too much time in the penalty box. 18 of the 36 minutes were spent in the penalty box.
In game 2, The Racers skated to a 5-2 victory with JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg netting 2 more goals. One empty netter, and one killing off a 5-3 penalty!
Gerst, Lawson, and Sattler netted the other 3 Racer goals for the Gold. Nelson and Lawson earned assists.
Darin Fox was sharp in both contests as he faced a total of 28 shots.
Solid efforts also came from Quinn Cuthbert, Devon Mackellar, Hunter Ingle, Bryce Dirscheryl, and Joey Bolger, and Connor Salkeld.
The Racers travel to Fort Wayne on 2/16 to play the Komets AA. Good luck Racers!

Racers Gold undefeated versus Komets AA in BTHL action

The Racers Gold took game one against the formidable FW Komets AA as they were victorious 4-2. JJ " Out of my way " Freudenberg netted 2 goals and an assist in the contest. His first goal was important as it tied the game at one and at that point, the Racers Gold showed " Red Pride " in their new Racers unis. Nick " Bulldozer " Broviak scored to make it 2-1 Racers as Fruedenberg earned the assist.
With just 2:02 remaining in the second period, JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg scored to make it 3-1 as " Hurricane Hunter " Ingle and CJ " Thunder " Salkeld earned assists. CJ " Thunder " Salkeld scored the 4th Racer goal in the 3rd period with Evan " Crazy legs " Sattler getting the helper.
Darin " Foxy " Fox played great in net and turned away 25 shots on goal. Quinn Cuthbert, Jack Heffernan, Bryce Dirsheryl, and Alex Nelson played well on deffense. Kyle Lawson, Jeff Gerst, Devon Mackellar, George Pippen all played solid as the victory was a total team effort. Great job Racers!
In game 2, Evan : Crazy legs " Sattler scored to make it 1-0 Racers as he took a pass from "Hurricane Hunter " Ingle. The Racers went up 2-0 as "big D " Dirscheryl scored unnassisted.
In the second period, Evan " Crazy legs " Sattler and JJ " Out of my way " Freudenberg scored to take a 4-1 lead into the third period. CJ " Thunder " Salkeld earned a helper on the final goal.
In the 3rd period, it was all Komets as they scored 3 goals in the final 5:33 to tie the game at 4-4. In earning a tie, the Racers earned 3 of 4 BTHL points from FW. Great games Racers!

Racers go 2-2-0 in Chicago Midwinter Classic

The Racers Gold fell 3-2 in game one of the Midwinter Classic before posting a 2-0 and 12-0 victories to be seeded 4th out of the 10 competing teams.
In the semi-finals, the Racers battled the Detroit area USA Eagles and jumped out to a 1-0 lead. 3 unanswered goals in the first 1:30 of the second period by the Eagles rattled the Racers before Coach Nelson called a time out. The Racers then out-played and out-shot the Eagles desoite falling 5-4 as the Eagles earned 2nd place in the tournament.
The entire team showed great improvement over the 4 games and will be ready to take their game to South Bend in Culver, Indiana on January 27th. Go Racers!

The Indy Racers rebounded from an earlier 4-1 setback to throttle the Cincy Cyclones 4-0. The entire team played great as Foxy earned another shut-out and the team earned 2 important BTHL points.

Racers Gold ink March Party in Columbus

The Gold team inks its annual season-ending banquet and celebration as it chooses Columbus, Ohio as the host city. The players will be treated to an NHL game as the Detroit Red Wings travel to play the Columbus Blue Jackets. There will be several surprises for both the players and parents as the team will have a private " Suite " to watch the game with parents. The team manager will need to know by 1/14/08 if additional tickets will be needed for each family as each player's admission to the suite is included in addition to 1 parent's ticket. Please let Jim Freudenberg or Tim Ingle know by 1/14 if you need additional tickets for the event.
The team has plans to play together for the last time of the year that weekend in addition to having its team banquet and awards. Las Vegas, Vancouver, and Buffalo lost out their respective bids to host the Indianapolis Racers year-end party and the economic impact that it would have brought their community. Vegas Grand Prix officials believied that they had a shot to land the weekend event, however, the Blue Jackets organization and Racers Gold sponsor chairmen Jim Freudenberg put together a total entertainment package that Buffalo, Vegas and Vancouver could not match. " We are thrilled to be a part of the Racers year-end party and honored that they would choose to watch us take on the Wings " says Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Racers Gold split the weekend, post 1-1-1 record

The Racers Gold team returned to the ice on Saturday, January 5th versus the Peoria Rivermen and played sluggish in a 4-0 victory. Darin Fox came up big when called upon and the Gold team out-shot Peoria 27-14 in the contest. The team chipped in 2 goals each in the first and 3rd period and escaped 0-0 in period 2. The team enjoyed earning a victory in their 1st game in over 3 weeks.
On Sunday, The Gold team battled the 98 Racers and earned a 4-4 tie in game 1. The team came out hard and outhustled and out-played the 98 Racers who were able to score at opportune times as 3 goals came on break-aways. The Gold team out-shot the minor team 25-13 in the exciting game. In game 2, the Gold team was never able to re-gain game 1's intensity and teamwork. 6 penalties by the Gold team in addition to the effort was too much to overcome as the Gold fell 4-1. Nick " bringing the heat " Eaton scored the lone goal for the Gold with Freudenberg and Bolger assisting. In game 2, the 98 team out-shot the Gold by a 2-1 margin,

Racers Versus Racers

Despite wintry conditions, the battle was on for Racers vs. Racers. The 98 Minor team visited the host Racer Gold team for BTHL action. All said, the Gold earned 1 of 4 pts in falling 3-1, and earning a 4-4 tie. In game 1, the Racers trailed 1-0 at the end of 1, and 2-0 at the end of 2. With 4:16 to go in the game, " Crazy Legs " Sattler scored with Fruedenberg on the assist. It appeared that the Gold may get it tied 2-2, however, with an empty net, the 98 team stole game 1, 3-1.
In game 2, it was the Gold team that came out strong and jumped to a 2-0 lead with goals by Freudenberg and Salkeld. Eaton and Sattler earned assists. The 98 team battled right back and tied the game at 2 with 2 goals in the last 6 minutes of period 1. In the second period, both teams scored for a 3-3 tie going into the final period. Freudenberg scored with Pippen on the helper.
In the 3rd period, the 98 team scored the go-ahead goal with 7:43 to go. The Gold team showed character, and tied the game at 4 with 1:14 to go with Gerst scoring on a re-bound from Freudenberg.
Darin Fox played very well in both games for the Racers Gold. Nick Broviak and Quinn Cuthbert played extremely well on defense. Lawson, Nelson, Bolger, Mackellar, Ingle, Dirscherl, and Heffernan gave a solid effort in the game. Salkeld, Sattler, Freudenberg, Gerst, Eaton, and Pipen earned points.
The Racers resume practice on Tuesday and Wednesday in Fishers before the holiday recess.

Racers grab 2 wins over Cyclones in BTHL action

The Racers Gold defeated the Cincy Cyclones in 2 games, grabbing all 4 BTHL points. In game 1, The Racers had difficulty building on a 2 goal lead, but earned a 5-4 victory. "Boom Boom" Bolger and Evan " Crazy Legs " Sattler each scored 2 goals and JJ " Out of my way " Freudenberg added the other and Pippen, Eaton, Dirscherl, and Lawson were credited with assists.
In game 2, The Racers played much stronger and began to dominate with 2 - 2 goal spurts to fuel an 8-2 Racer rout. Scoring for the Racers included a hat trick for Sattler, 2 goals for Freudenberg and Bolger, and Mackellar. Credited with assists were Eaton ( 2), Ingle ( 2 ), Bolger, Sattler, Freudenberg, Sattler, Dirscherl, and Gerst.
Darin Fox played well in net along with strong defense by Cuthbert, Salkeld, Dirscherl, Ingle, and Heffernan.
Way to go Racers!

Racers fall just short in Big Bear thriller!

The Racer Gold team played their hearts out and came up just short in the tournament final of the Indy Jones Big Bear tournament championship. St. Peters AA hung on to a 3-2 finals thriller.
The teams opened up play at full throttle and played the first period to a scoreless tie. Many Racer opportunities were had in the 1st as Madison Rigby ( St. Peters MVP ) played solid in the net.
George " of the jungle " Pippen tied the game at 1 -1 in the second as Sattler and goalie Darin Fox were credited with the assists. With 4:48 to go in the game, JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg put the Racers up 2-1 with Eaton and Ingle joining the flurry. The Racers turned up the heat and looked poised for the big upset. With just 1:44 to go in regulation, the Spirit tied the game at 2-2. With 31 seconds left, St. Peters took the lead for good as the game ended 3-2 Spirit.
Darin Fox was named tournament MVP for the Racers. Quinn Cuthbert, Nick Broviak, Jack Heffernan, and CJ Salkeld played a great game on defense. All seven forwards, - Sattler, Pippen, Gerst, Freudenberg, Ingle, Eaton, and Lawson gave a solid effort.
The team was presented with Big Bear Finalist trophies and a granite plaque commemorating their accomplishment. Great job Racers!!

Racers Gold win semi final, earn re-match with the Spirit

Thundersruck the Tigers as the Racers Gold team battled back from a 1-0 and and 2-1 deficit to grab a 3-2 lead with 1:40 remaining in the game. CJ " Thunder " Salkeld got the go-ahead and then empty netter as the Gold prevailed 4-2 over the Nashville Ice Tigers to earn a championship match with the St. Peters Spirit. Evan Sattler and Kyle Lawson also registered goals with Cuthbert, Sattler, and Freudenberg registering assists.
Darin Fox was sharp in the net and the rest of the team contributed with hustle, grit, and determination.
The Racers earn a re-match with St. Peters who distmantled the Gold yesterday with less than 3 minutes to go to take the game. It will take a great team effort from the Racers as they take the ice in the Indy Jones championship at 1:50 PM in Carmel. Go Racers.

St. Peters AA holds off Racers

The Racers Gold were unable to hold on against the Spirit of St. Peters and fell 5-2, giving 3 goals with 2:35 to go in the game. The Racers trailed 1-0 at the end of one period, and tied the game at 1 as George Pippen scored unassisted.
After falling behind 2-1, JJ Freudenberg tied the game at 2 with just over 9 minutes remaining. The Spirit went ahead 3-2 and never looked back as 2 insurance goals cemented the victory. Evan Sattler, Hunter Ingle, George Pippen, JJ Freudenberg, Jeff Gerst, Kyle Lawson, and Nick Eaton all worked hard and hustled. Quinn Cuthbert, CJ Salkeld, Jack Heffernan, and Nick Broviak gave a nice effort on the blue line. The Racers earned 1/2 point for tying the 2nd period and with strong performances against Nashville and Twin Bridges, earned a trip to the semis on Sunday in downtown Indianapolis.

Racers erase the Lightening 11-0

The Gold Racers scored 5 unanswered goals in the 1st period on the way to an 11-0 victory over the Twin Bridges ( St. Louis ) Lightening. " Hurricane Hunter " Ingle opened the scoring in the first period with JJ " Out of my way " Freudenberg on the assist along with " Bulldozer " Broviak. CJ " Thunder " Salkeld scored to make it 2-0 with George " of the jungle " Pippen assisting. Pippen then scored one of his own with Nick " Bringin the Heat " Eaton and " Q " Cuthbert on the assists. Jeff " Flash Gordon " Gerst scored his 2 goals of the game with Freudenberg, Salkeld, and Pippen all earning assists.
In period 2, " Crazy legs " Sattler scored with George " of the jungle " Pippen recording assists. " Hurricane Hunter " Ingle scored to make it 7-0 Racers Gold with his second of the game at the half way point in the contest. " Thunder " Salkeld scored the final goal of the 2nd period with " Bulldozer " Broviak on the assist.
In period 3, Coach Cuthbert shook up the positions and the Bulldozer chipped in the next 2 goals with " Q "Quinn Cuthbert, Pippen, and Lawson on the helpers. The final goal of the game came from Kyle " I fought the law and the Lawson won " with Pippen assisting.
Quinn Cuthbert, CJ Salkeld, and Jack " in the box " Heffernan and Nick Broviak played well on defense to set the tone early. Darin " Foxy " Fox played great when he had to and earned another well deserved shut-out. Great game Foxy.
The Gold team resumes tourney action at 3:45 Saturday in Carmel. Good luck Racers!

Racers carve the Nashville Ice Tigers 3-2

The Racers Gold outlasted the Nashville Ice Tigers and earned a tourney victory in game 1 of the Indy Jones Squirt tournament in downtown Indianapolis.
All Racer players skated hard and played well as a team. Evan " Crazy Train " Sattler got things started on the power play as the Racers took a 1-0 lead. Sattler slammed home the re-bound that was caused by JJ " Out of my Way " Freudenberg and CJ " Thunder " Salkeld. The Ice Tigers tied the game up at 1 at the end of the first period.
In period 2, " Hurricane Hunter " Ingle gave the Racers a 2-1 lead with Sattler on the assist. Later in the period, CJ " Thunder " Salkeld ripped one from the red line and it eluded the Tiger goalie for a 3-1 Racer lead.
In the 3rd period, Nashville made it 3-2, and for the last 7 minutes it was a dog fight. The Gold team prevailed 3-2 and return to tourney action on Saturday. Good luck Gold Racers!

Racers dropped by Cyclones in game 1, earn tie in re-match

The Racers Gold team played the Cincy Cylcones AA 1 team on Saturday at the Forum and played extremely well as a team. Early in the 1st period the team defense and forwards skated hard and had several opportunities to register goals. Unable to do so, Cincy grabbed a 1-0 lead at the end of the 1st period. Cincy scored two more goals despite the solid effort by the Racers as the Gold team drew even on shots on goal.
In game 2, the Racers drew 1st blood as Nick Eaton popped in the timely goal for a 1-0 lead. The Gold team played aggressive and gave a valiant effort. Cincy battled back and tied the game late at 1-1. The Racers hung on to add an important point to their BTHL standings. Great job Racers!

Racers Bring the Heat in game 1 against Northern Kentucky, tie 2nd

The Racers Gold earned a great game 1 victory against Northern Kentucky AA and earned 2 points in the BTHL as Nick " Bringin' the Heat " Eaton earned his 1st Indy Racer hatrick and added an assist along the way. JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg chipped in 2 assists and tallied the games 1st goal to make it 1-o Racers. CJ " Thunder " Salkeld ripped a nice goal to round out the attack as the final score was Racers 5, Norseman 2. Quinn " Q " Cuthbert played great on defense and contributed with 2 assists. " Boom Boom " Bolger also added 2 assists in the contest. Darin " Foxy " Fox stopped 20 of 22 shots in the first game. All of the players contributed to a great team victory. Great job Racers!
In game 2, the Norseman fought back and took an early 1-0 lead on the power play on a goal by Hunter Hogue. Down 1-0, George " of the jungle " Pippen evened the game at 1 with Kyle Lawson getting the helper. The Norseman regained the lead at 2-1 before Evan " Crazy Train " Sattler scored a nice goal to tie the game at 2-2 with Hunter Ingle assisting. Evan Sattler then set up Jeff " Flash Gordon " Gerst for a go-ahead goal with 10:55 remaining in the 3rd period. With 7:03 remaining in the 3rd period, the Norseman tied the game at 3. The Racers continued to play hard and finished the game out-shooting the Norseman 33-15. The tie earned the Racers 3 points in the league standings. Despite the tie, the Racers felt like " we almost had it " stated Carson Salkeld, younger brother of CJ.
The Racers will have a full plate tomorrow as they face-off against the Cincinnati Cyclones AA Minor team 1 at Fishers beginning at 10:30 AM. Good luck Racers Gold!

Racers drop a heartbreaker in OT in Silver Sticks semi finals

The Racers Gold team dropped a real heartbreaker 1-o in sudden death OT against the Strongsville Mustangs. The team battled hard and gave a strong effort. The eventual game winner for Strongsville came on a 2 man advantage where they slipped the puck past Foxy.
The Gold Team should be very proud of their weekend effort posting a 2-2 record versus top quality AA competition and coming close to advancing to a possible championship game.

Racers jump out to victory with 2 wins in Mid-Am Silver sticks, play FW AA Sunday

The Racers Gold tamed the North Pittsburgh Wildcats 7-1 in Silver Sticks action on Saurday after spotting an early 1-0 lead. Darin Fox played well in the net. Jeff " Flash Gordon " Gerst tallied the 1st goal unnassisted as a Wilcat re-directed the puck past the Pittsburgh goalie.
George " of the jungle " Pippen and " Boom Boom " Bolger each scored to extend the lead to 3-1 with Lawson and Freudenberg on the helpers.
JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg and George " of the jungle " Pippen each cored to make it 5-1 midway through the 3rd period. Nick Eaton and D-Mac Mackellar earned assists.
" Hurricane Hunter " Ingle took a great pass from Flash Gordon and sniped the 6th Racer goal past the Wilcat goalie. Evan " crazy legs " Sattler capped the final scoring with Pippen on the assist. Great job Racers!!
In game 2, the Racers faced the independent Sylvania team that was rated very strong. The Gold team dominated the majority of play, and was able to post an impressive 3-1 victory. Once again, Darin Fox played well and saved 93% of the shots on goal. Crazy Legs Sattler, Boom Boom Bolger, and JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg scored the three Racer goals. Thunder Salkeld, Bringn' the heat Eaton tallied assists.
The team defense played very well. The 2 wins locked-up a bid for the Gold team to advance to the semi finals, despite a scheduled game against formidable Ft. Wayne.

Racers Gold set ther eyes on Fort Wayne Silver Sticks

The Racers Gold take the practice ice in Westfield tonight and have their eyes set on a big weekend of competition in Fort Wayne, IN. The Grand Wayne Hilton is the official team hotel and has rolled out the red carpet for the Gold Racers.
The Racers Gold will look to build on their level of game intensity and overall team and position play as they take the ice in their 1st game against a tough North Pittsburgh team at 8:15 am on Saturday.

Columbus Capitals skate past Racers, Racers battle Canton Crush

The Columbus Capitals defeated the Racers Gold in 2 contests on Saturday in Fishers 6-0 and 3-2. Despite the set-back, the Racers made some improvements and skated strong in the first 2 periods of game 2 and were within 1 goal. The Gold was unable to net a tying goal in the 3rd period as the Capitals earned 4 BTHL points.
On Sunday, The Racers Gold took on the Canton Crush. The Racers Gold hung tough with Canton, and gave them everything they had. Unable to tie the game in the closing seconds, the Racers fell 3-2 against a very talented Canton Team.

USHL Indy ICE defeat Chicago 4-3, honor Racers GOLD

The Racers Gold team was honored at the USHL Indiana Ice game as they lined up on the blue line for pre-game introductions and the national anthem. The team enjoyed a pizza party in the ice-house that was arranged by Danny Dirsherl. The team then enjoyed watching the Ice come from behind and defeat the Chicago Steel 4-3.

Racers win 2 games ! Take the bite out of the Bruins

The Racers improved their season win total by 2 victories by eliminating the Troy Bruins of the BTHL 5-1 and 6-0 in downtown Indianapolis in game 1 and at the Pepsi Coliseum in game 2.
Both games showed marked improvement for all players. Darin Fox earned another shut-out in his second game of the day. In game one, Sattler netted 2 goals with JJ Freudenberg, Pippen, and Lawson contributing with one each. Eaton, Salkeld, and Freudenberg also gained assists.
In game 2, the Racers played on the "big ice " at Pepsi with an announced crowd of 342 fans. After out-shooting Troy 32-9 in the first game, the Racers Gold wanted to get started early to avoid a letdown. Evan Sattler got things started with a first period goal. Sattler hustled all game and was also credited wirh an assist on 2 other Indy goals.
Joey " boom boom " Bolger earned a hat trick. Also scoring for the Racers was D-Mac Mackellar, and Jeff Gerst.
Quinn " Q " Cuthbert played great on defense and had a great assist. George Pippen also had a tremendous assist in the game.
Salkeld, Eaton, Ingle, Dirsherl, Nelson, Lawson, Heffernan, Fruedenberg all played great and hustled.
Great job Racers!

The Racers Gold team traveled to Northern Kentucky and fell 4-3 in the first game of the BTHL season. The Norseman jumped on the Racers early and were able to gut out the 1 goal victory in the 3rd period on a shorthanded goal. Jack " in the box " Heffernan earned the team's first goal with Sattler on the assist. Boom Boom Bolger and Nick " bring'n the Heat " Eaton rounded out the Racer scoring in the defeat.
In the second game, the Racers earned a 1-1 tie as Evan " crazy legs " Sattler tied the game with just 1:20 to go. The Racers poured on the heat but were unable to score a game winner as a running clock was deployed. The team showed some good improvement and also learned some key opportunities for imrovement over the next few weeks.
Nick Eaton and Bryce Dirsherl stood out on defense along with Broviak and Salkeld as the team was playing without "Q" Cuthbert and D-Mac. Foxy played extremely well in net for the Gold in both games. Despite a poor showing, the team averaged over 20 shots per game in the 2 contests. Sattler, Heffernan, and Bolger created some scoring chances.
Pippen, Ingle, and Freudenberg had several scoring chances and hustled extremely well. Lawson, Gerst, and Nelson worked hard, but were unable to connect.
The team will look forward to a great practice Tuesday in Fishers!

Racers Blast the Rockets 5-0

The Racers Gold team earned a 3rd place finnish in the Indy Cup challenge this morning by defeating the St. Louis Rockets 5-0 in early morning action. Kyle " I fought the law and the Lawson won " scored early in the first period with D-Mac Mackellar assisting. Jack " in the box " Heffernan scored the 2nd goal with Sattler and Eaton helping. " Crazy Legs " Sattler scored to make it 3-0 Racers with Boom Boom Bolger on the assist. The jungle cruise line made it 4-0 as George " of the jungle " Pippen got the goal with Gerst assisting. The final goal was scored by Bryce " Big D " Dirsherl with Broviak and Sattler chipping in the assist. " Q " Cuthbert and " Thunder " Salkeld played solid D along with their other blue-line teamates. Darin " Foxy " Fox earned himself another shutout in the net. Great game Racers.
In Saturday night action, the Racers Gold fell to the Racers 98 AA team 3-0. The team played very well after falling behind early 2-0 and will certainly be ready for a re-match in BTHL action against the Racers 98 skaters. All 16 players skated hard and made great improvements. The coaching staff and fans look forward to the team's development. Good luck Racers!

Livonia Knights turn out the lights on Racers

The Livonia Knights defeated the Racers Gold 7-4 in game 2 of the Indy Cup and have left the young Racers wanting redemption this afternoon.
" D-Mac " Mackellar got his first goal of the season with Thunder Salkeld on the assist as the Racers jumped to a 1-0 lead. The Knights fired back and tied the game at one to end the period. " Boom Boom " Bolger gave the Racers a 2-1 advantage with Quinn " Q " Cuthbert and Heffernan on the assists. The Knights then shut the lights out on the Racers with 4 goals in a row and took a 5-2 lead.
The Racers Gold showed great character and battled back with 2 goals of their own. Jeff " Flash Gordon " Gerst and JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg scored with Pippen and Eaton getting key assists.
The Racers looked to tie the game even, however, a crucial goal by Livonia made the score 6-4 with just over 3 minutes to go. A late empty net goal ended the scoring for the victorious Knights.
The Racers resume action in Fishers at 2:55 pm vesus the Racers 98 AA team. Let's go Racers Gold !

Racers defeat Orland Park 8-1, Boom Boom Bolger scores 4

" Boom Boom " Bolger sparked an 8-1 Racer Gold victory over the Orland Park Vikings in the Advanced Tournaments Indy Cup's opening round game. The Racers started slow and fell behind 1-0 in the 1st period before JJ " out of my way " Freudenberg tied the game even midway through the 1st. Evan " crazy legs " Sattler ripped a blistering shot just inside the pipe to propel the Gold to a 2-1 lead to end the period with Alex " Nelly " Nelson earning the helper.
In period 2, " Boom Boom" Bolger scored the 1st of his 4 goals in a row with Sattler and Heffernan earning the assists.
" Boom Boom " opened the 3rd period with 2 goals just 42 seconds apart as both Salkeld and Sattler assisted. Bolger's 4th goal of the game came with 4:22 remaining in the game and gave the Racers a commanding 6-1 lead. " Jack in the Box " Heffenan had a great assist on the goal.
With just 1:09 left in regulation " Hurricane Hunter " Ingle scored a goal with George " of the jungle " Pippen and Alex " Nelly " Nelson assisting on the play. The finale came with only 11 seconds left as Bryce " Big D " Dirscherl scored with Hunter Ingle and Jack Heffernan on the final assists.
Darin " Foxy " Fox played great in the net and the team played well on defense as Quinn Cuthbert, Nick Eaton, CJ Salkeld, Bryce Dirscherl, Nick " Bulldozer " Broviak, and Alex Nelson played well on the Blue line. Jeff " flash Gordon " Gerst, Kyle Lawson, and D-Mac hustled and were solid contributors.

Racers hit by Komets in Pre-season Action in Indy

The Racers Gold Team was struck by the Komets in succesive games at 11:45 am and 2 pm at the Forum in Fishers. Both teams started strong and played at a quick pace in the first period. Wyatt Gottschalk of the Komets netted a goal with just over 2 minutes remaining in the 1st period as the Komets ended the period holding a 1-0 edge.
In period 2, the Komets outskated the Racers and jumped on every loose puck and built a 4-0 lead by scoring 3 goals in less than 2 minutes. The Racers were not ready to lay dead, and picked up their energy for the last 5 mintes of the period. With just 14 seconds to go in the second period, the Racers lone goal came from Hunter Ingle as he took a pass from Quinn Cuthbert and raced in and put the puck past the Komet goalie Camden Whitney and cut the margin to 4-1.
In the 3rd period, the Racers ran out of steam and were unable to build on their quick burst of momentum. The Komets went ahead 5-1 early in the 3rd and then padded the lead with 2 more goals for a final score of 7-1 Komets.
In game 2, the Racers fell behind 5-0 in the second period and then were able to draw the Komets even as the game ended in a 5-0 defeat. The team looks forward to practice on Tuesday and Wednesday as they prepare for the beginning of the season.

Gold Racers name assistant coach

The Indianapolis Racers Squirt Gold Team is pleased to announce that Lubos Krajcovic has joined the Gold Team as its Assistant Coach. Lubos will begin his new assignment on Tuesday September 18th and serve on the coaching staff along with Coach David Nelson. " Our coaching staff just got stronger, and Coach Lubos will be a tremendous asset in developing these young hockey players" said Nelson.
Coach Krajcovic was quoted as saying, " I'm looking forward to a fun season where the players improve everytime they step on the ice...plus let's win some games!"
Coach Lubos Krajcovic joins the Racers Gold coaching staff where his bio includes previous youth hockey coaching experience and skill development of many successful hockey players.
Coach Lubos played in the USHL with the Waterloo Black Hawks before playing Division I hockey for Michigan Tech University. Following his NCAA hockey career, Lubos played 2 seasons in the UHL before joining the former Indianapolis Ice of the CHL where he played as a forward from 1999-2002. Lubos is a native of Krupina, Slovakia and now resides in Indianapolis. Welcome Coach and Go for the Gold!

Racers open season with 2-1-1 mark in BTHL seeding tourney

The Racers Gold squirt team opened the BTHL season play by participating in the seeding tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio this weekend. In the first game, the young Gold team battled in competition play for the first time against the Cincinnati Cyclones AA team. The Racers first goal of the season was scored by George “of the jungle” Pippen with just 2:18 to go in the game for the 1-0 lead with Gerst and Heffernan on the assist. The Cyclones fired right back and tied the game at 1-1 with 1:31 to go in regulation. Despite a flurry at the end by the Racers, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Goalie Darin “ Foxy” Fox had a 92.3% save percentage.
In game 2, The Racers Gold team faced-off against the experienced Fort Wayne Komets AA team. Darin “Foxy” Fox was stellar between the pipes for the second time in as many games as he turned away 18 of 22 shots. Jeff “Flash Gordon”Gerst tied the game at 1-1 with 18:41 to go in the game with Joey Bolger earning the helper. The Komets position play and tenacity was too much for the Racers as Fort Wayne went on to win 4-1. The defeat would prove to be a good lesson for this young team to learn from.
In game 3, fresh off of Buca Di Beppo, the Gold team was ready to prove to the fans that their tires were flat no more. The Racers jumped out early and often against the Columbus Blue Jackets A team. Jeff “Flash Gordon Gerst” scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead just 35 seconds into the game with Pippen and Ingle on the assists. JJ “Out of my way” Freudenberg scored to make it 2-0 with an assist from Devan “ D-Mac Attack “ Mackellar. Gerst scored again at the 18:40 mark to make it 3-0 on an unassisted goal. George “ of the jungle “ Pippen scored his second goal of the weekend with assists from JJ “ out of my way “ Freudenberg and Hunter “ Lightening “ Ingle. The Racers netted their 5th and final goal of the game when Jeff “Flash Gordon” Gerst scored the first hat trick of the season with an assist from Hunter Ingle. The team defense held the Blue Jackets to just 2 shots on goal as“Foxy” earned his very first Racer shut-out.
In the final game of the weekend, The Racers faced the Cincinnati Cyclones – 2 AA team. After a battle for most of the game in a scoreless 0-0 tie, JJ “ out of my way “ Freudenberg scored at the 7:30 mark for the 1-0 lead with Kyle “ I fought the law “ and the Lawson won getting the assist. Evan “Iceman" Sattler led the team in hustle as he attacked the ice in both directions. The Racers held on for the 1-0 lead as Foxy earned his 2nd Racer career shut-out. The defensive play of Nick “ Bulldozer “ Broviak, Quinn Cuthbert, Alex “ Nelly “ Nelson, CJ “ Thunder “ Salkeld, Bryce Dirscherl, and Nick “ bring’n the Heat “ Eaton contributed to the team’s victories.
The Racers look forward to practice Tuesday, and resume game action on Saturday the 22nd in Fishers against the FW Komets AA.
