Recreational Programs Progression, Policies and Practices
Progression: As players age they progress through different divisions.
As an example, a player who turned 5 on June 10, 2005 would be in the
U5 division for the 2005-2006 soccer year;
U6 division for the 2006-2007 soccer year;
U7 division for the 2007-2008 soccer year;
U8 division for the 2008-2009 soccer year;
and so on.

Note that the soccer year runs from 8/1 to 7/31 rather than 1/1 to 12/31.

Hence, as long as there are sufficient numbers of players and volunteers,
RSL will endeavor to facilitate recreational programs. Registration for all
programs begins in the spring and basic teams need to be formed by late June.
Additional players can be added to a team throughout the year if needed.

Policies: Recreational programs are based on coed teams.
RSL will try to provide age appropriate divisions as long as -
1) there are enough players to form 4 teams in that division;
2) there are enough adult volunteers so that each team has
   a. 1 head coach
   b. 1 assistant coach
   c. 1 team parent
   d. 1 referee (certified or will be certified within the year)
3) there is at least one adult volunteer who will coordinate the division;
4) the volunteers comply with RSL requirements (background, training, field use);

When there are insufficient teams or volunteers to support an age appropriate
division, two or more age groups may be merged to form a division (U6+U7);

When there are insufficient numbers to form a recreational division, but there are
age appropriate travel teams, then individual recreational players may train and
practice with the appropriate travel team. Recreational players who have worked with
a travel team may try out for that team whenever there is an opening on the travel
team roster. The travel coach determines if the player should be added to the roster.
