RSL Needs New Volunteers Every Year
In the '80s and early '90s the Rhinebeck Soccer League had pretty much of a monopoly on the area youth club soccer. That all changed in mid '90s as the club lost pace with the greater soccer community. By 1997, RSL had dropped from an all time high of 500+ players to a single one season travel team. Throughout, however, the club had maintained its field management program and even managed to develop another field by the late '90s. Since 1998, the club has grrown, or regrown, rapidly. The current growth is stressing the rather limited volunteer pool that keeps the club's programs running. At the present, we are in dire need for people to help keep the fields repaired and safe; administrators to handle team level registration and communication; and certified referees (adults and teens). These shortages put the programs for many age groups at risk. Why? Because there is only so much that a coach or board member can do.

If you would be interested in any of the positions (descriptions follow), please drop a note Rhinebecksoccer@aol.com stating how you would like to help out.

The commitment for these much needed jobs is really quite small. The field committee gets the fields ready for play in the spring (1 day of work), completes an annual improvement project (1 to 2 days of work) and closes the fields in the fall (a couple of hours).

The team administrators coordinate registration in the spring and handle communications special communications throughout the year. Typically, these jobs take an average of less than 2 hours per month.

Referees get paid for every match that they officiate. However, they have to take a certification course which has a fee and they have to buy their own uniform(s). Usually, their up front expenses have been recovered by the fourth match that they officiate. We also need an experienced adult referee to serve as head referee for the club. He or she will guide the development of the less experienced referees.
