Rhinebeck United U15
03/15/09 - Rhinbeck United comes in 2nd at Highland Invitational
Despite not giving up a goal in the tournament and posting a record of 3 wins and two ties, the United came in 2nd place at the Highland Invitational. Anchored by solid goalkeeping from Casey Loeber and a strong defense of David Williams, Maclyn Willigan and Sean Lanza, the United controlled play in their end.
Offensively they were led by solid striker play from Blake Pizzola and Matt Ciago who each contributed goals. Goals were also scored by Brian Jones, Justin Hart and David Williams. The United completed their indoor tournament season placing either first or second in 4 of the 6 tournaments we participated in.
02/08/09 - Led by excellent defenisive and keeper play, The Rhinebeck United beat the Beacon Burn 1-0 in the championship of the Quickstrike Tournament. The lone goal was scored by Quinn Horvath on an impressive play weaving his way through two Burn defenders and drilling a shot between the keeper's legs. Supported by outstanding keeper play from Casey Loeber and the defense led by Sean Lanza and Maclyn Willigan, the United played sound soccer the entire tournament. Other goals were contributed by Blake Pizzola, David Williams, Matt Ciago and two more by Quinn Horvath to give him a hat trick for the tournament.
The Rhinebeck United BU 15 Boys soccer team was formed two years ago to fill a gap in the Rhinebeck Soccer League for this age group. The mission of the United was to be a competitive youth soccer team, improving our players and improving as a team while striving to play at the highest levels.
Since then, the team has won the EHYSL Fall and Spring soccer league, won the Winter league at The Net, and has made it to the championship of four tournaments including most recently coming in second at the Jim Slater Tournament.
The overall goal of the team was to eventually qualify for a premier league. The Untied accomplished this over the summer by being accepted to The MAPS Premier League. We hosted our first MAPS game at Baptist Home and after a hard fought battle finished in a 2-2 tie. Our overall record to date against premier teams is 4-3-2 which includes tournament play and “friendlies”.
Other goals set by the coaching staff were to improve the skill level of our players and to do this within the concept of team play. Finally, it was important to do this in an environment that the kids would enjoy and provide the players with lifelong memories.
The head coach Martin Rakoff brings over 20 years of youth athletics coaching experience, has a background in fitness and conditioning and his assistant coach Michael Lanza brings one of the more extensive training backgrounds in the area, combined with over 12 years of youth coaching experience and has rounded out the coaching staff to ensure the players receive the highest level of training.
Perhaps the highlight of the teams two year existence was holding the Australian National Team scoreless in the first half of a playoff round at the Disney International Tournament over the summer. We eventually fell to Australia but never played better soccer than we did in the first half.
Most recently, the team finished in second at the Jim Slater tournament losing to the Beacon Burn. The team played exceptionally well and had gone 2-0-2 in bracket play.
Our roster is currently full but we will be holding tryouts again at the conclusion of our season and we are always looking for players who are interested in playing “premier level” soccer, want to be challenged by their coaches, are committed to individual improvement, and want to enjoy playing the game of soccer.
