Game Summaries for the Fall 2008 Season

The Rebels finished the fall season with a 4-4-2 record and 3rd place in division BU13-2.  As a team, they had 30 goals for and 30 goals against, with eight different players scoring. They finished the season strongly, ending with four wins, a loss and a tie.  

11/16/2008 - Rhinebeck Rebels 4, Yorktown Gladiators 1

The U13 Rebels finished out their fall season on a winning note at home, defeating the Yorktown Gladiators 4-1.  As in past winning efforts, the Rebels were led by a scrappy and hustling midfield and a solid defense.  Rebels' midfielder Kory Hutchins opened the scoring with a soft shot in upper left corner.  After the Gladiators tied the score, Brandt Slayton found the net off a Seth McClenahan corner kick.  Roan Gideon tallied next for the Rebels on a penalty kick sent low and away.  Slayton scored the game's final goal on a breakaway and hard shot off the keeper's leg.  Rhinebeck's attackers put many other shots on goal.  Keeper Jackson Pavlakis played confidently and smartly, stopping 5 shots in the winning effort.

11/9/2008 - Rhinebeck Rebels 5, Beekman 0

The U13 Rebels were dominant throughout their game against the Beekman Devils, winning 5-0.  The Rebels were led by their huslting midfielders Kory Hutchins, Christine Hatter, Kenny Van de Mark, and Luke Matthews. Scoring for Rhinebeck were forwards Tivon Carson, Seth McClenahan, Brandt Slayton (twice) and Michael Flanagan. The defense, consisting of stopper Nir Lavi-Romer, backs Pat Cacciabuado and Dan Heslin, and sweeper Alexander Slayton, played one of their best games yet, allowing only one shot on rookie goalkeeper Jackson Pavlakis.  

11/2/2008 - Yorktown 5, Rhinebeck Rebels 2

The U13 Rebels fell to an outstanding Yorktown Eurostars team, 5-2.  Jackson Pavlakis made his debut in goal for the Rebels, showing good form in stopping 9 shots.  Midfielders Pat Cacciabaudo, Moorea Martin, Tivon Carson, and Michael Flanagan did an excellent job containing the Eurostars' leading player, Alex Tejera, holding him scoreless.  Nir Lavi-Romer was strong at stopper all day.  Forwards Seth McClenahan and Brandt Slayton scored for Rhinebeck.

10/26/2008 - Rhinebeck Rebels 2, Florida 2

The U13 Rebels travelled (and travelled) to Florida where they played the Fury to a 2-2 tie.  The Rebels trailed 2-0 at the half, but came furiously storming back, dominating play in the second half.  Midfielder Luke Matthews' crisp passing set up a Brandt Slayton breakaway goal to put the Rebels on the board.  Midfielder Kory Hutchins' 40-yard blast on a direct kick just missed, bouncing off the crossbar.  Forward Seth McClenahan scored minutes later on an assist from Slayton.  The Rebels got outstanding keeper play from McClenahan in the first half, and strong attacking play in the second half from midfielders Christine Hatter, Michael Flanagan, and Malcolm Ransome, and forward Kenny Van de Mark.  

10/19/2008 - Rhinebeck Rebels 4, Brewster 3

The U13 Rebels soccer team won in dramatic, momentum-swinging, come-from-behind fashion, beating the Brewster Blast 4-3 on Sunday.  Rhinebeck opened flat, surrendering a Brewster goal in the first minute of play.  Rhinebeck answered with a Nir Lavi-Romer pass to Brandt Slayton for the score.  The Rebels took a 2-1 lead on a Kory Hutchins penalty kick.  Brewster dominated most of the second half, taking a 3-2 lead.  But the momentum swung Rhinebeck's way in the final two minutes.  Midfielder Christine Hatter passed to Slayton who schooled the keeper, laying off a soft pass in the 6-yd box to Luke Matthews for the tieing goal.  With just 30 seconds left, Rhinebeck pressed, with midfielder Michael Flanagan winning a 50-50 ball,  sending a crossing pass to the far post where Slayton put it in, giving Rhinebeck the come-from-behind victory.  Keeper Seth McClenahan was a commanding presence, making 14 saves.  The Rhinebeck defensive backfield, consisting of Lavi-Romer, Pat Cacciabaudo, Roan Gideon and Alexander Slayton, played as a cohesive, aggressive, smart unit all day.    

10/5/2008 - Rhinebeck Rebels 5, Yorktown 0

Rhinebeck's U13 Rebels soccer team picked up its first win of the season, defeating the Yorktown Gladiators 5-0. Fifteen minutes into the game, Michael Flanagan opened the scoring with a lofting shot from 20 yds out.  Brandt Slayton scored next, outrunning the defenders on a breakaway.  Rhinebeck forwards Tivon Carson, Kory Hutchins and Seth McClenahan also scored.  The Rhinebeck defensive backfield of Patrick Cacciabaudo, Nir Lavi-Romer and Alexander Slayton played outstanding all day, limiting Yorktown to just 3 shots.  McClenahan played 50 minutes of outstanding keeper, holding Yorktown scoreless.

9/28/2008 - Beekman 4, Rhinebeck Rebels 3

The U13 Rebels played a scrappy game against the visiting Beekman Devils, coming up just a goal short. The Beekman team opened a 3-0 lead in the first half, but the Rhinebeck squad came storming back with a goal by Tivon Carson before the half, assisted by Moorea Martin.  Seth McClenahan added two goals in the second half, one on an assist from midfielder Brandt Slayton, and the other on a penalty kick.  Kory Hutchins played a strong game at stopper, with midfielders Malcom Ransome, Kenny van de Mark, and Michael Flanagan also playing smartly.   Pat Cacciabaudo and Dan Heslin split time at keeper, each stopping several shots.  

9/21/2008 - Yorktown 8, Rhinebeck Rebels 1

The U13 Rebels lost to an outstanding Yorktown Eurostars team in Yorktown.  The Eurostars were led by Alex Tiggers, who had 5 goals and assisted on the other 3 Eurostar scores.  Kory Hutchins put Rhinebeck on the board with a corkscrewing 35-yd kick, which was the first goal scored against the Eurostars this season.  In the second half, Kenny Van de Mark made his debut in goal, turning away several shots; Christine Hatter was dominant at sweeper;  and Moorea Martin, playing midfield/spy on the Eurostar's Alex Tejera, severely limited his touches on the ball.  

9/14/2008 - Rhinebeck Rebels 4, Florida Fury 4

The Rebels U13 soccer team tied the visiting Florida Fury 4-4 at the Baptist Home fields on Sunday.  The Rebels opened up a 3-0 halftime lead on goals by Luke Matthews, Kory Hutchins, and Kenny Van de Mark.  The Florida team opened the second half with three unanswered goals.  Seth McClenahan put the Rebels back in the lead, scoring on a booming 25-yd shot.  The Fury answered immediately, and the two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of a very physical game.  Rhinebeck keeper Patrick Cacciabaudo was impressive in his first start in goal, holding Florida scoreless until he left the game with an injury just before halftime. 

9/7/2008 - Brewster 3, Rhinebeck Rebels 0

The Rhinebeck Rebels U13 soccer team came up short in its opening game this fall, losing to the Brewster Blast 0-3 on Sunday in Brewster.  Tivon Carson and Seth McClenahan played strong games, sharing duties at midfield and as keeper.  Roan Gideon, Alexander Slayton and newcomer Danny Heslin anchored an active defensive.
