memo

Welcome to the official site of Richlands Athletic League. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I invite you to attend our next General Membership meeting on October 4, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Richlands Recreation Park.  By attending our General Membership meetings, you will stay informed regarding League business and events. Our meetings offer you the opportunity to ask questions, make suggestions and, if you are a Voting Member, have a say on League issues. Also, I want everyone to know that the Board and I are here for all the Children in this League. We want them to go away with knowledge of the game, many fond memories and the Best Baseball and Softball experience of their Little League careers.

Baseball Bat Regulation Changes

Calvin Batting

Beginning in 2009, Little League Baseball has adopted the rule that non-wood bats used in ANY of the sixty-foot diamond baseball divisions must be printed with a BPF (Bat Performance Factor) of 1.15 or less.  When this rule takes effect in April, 2009, ANY bat without the marking, or one with a BPF marking greater than 1.15, WILL be removed from the game.  Also, as another reminder, at any time, the barrel of a bat used in any sixty-foot diamond program cannot exceed 2 1/4 inches in diameter.  Also, beginning with the 2009 Little League Baseball season, baseball bats with a diameter of 2 3/4 inches are No Longer Permitted for use in the Junior League Division.  Baseball bats with a 2 5/8-inch diameter are now the standard for all teenage baseball divisions (Junior, Senior and Big League).  The "minus-3" requirement - overall weight (in ounces) of a bat can be no more than three ounces below the overall length (in inches) of the bat (for example, a thirty-three inch bat cannot weight less than thirty ounces) - remains in effect in Senior and Big League Baseball divisions, but is NOT a requirement in Junior Baseball.
These Changes Apply Only To Bats Used in the Baseball Programs.  Softball Bat Requirements Remain Unchanged for the 2009 Season.

Altered Batting Helmets May Not Be Used

Little League Has Passed The Following Rule Regarding Batting Helmets:
Rule 1.16 and 1.17 (Baseball and Softball)

Warning! Manufacturers have advised that altering helmets in any way can be dangerous.  Altering the helmet in any form, including painting or adding decals (by anyone other than the manufacturer or authorized dealer) may void the helmet warranty. Helmets may not be re-painted and may not contain tape, or re-applied decals, unless approved in writing by the helmet manufacturer or authorized dealer. This rule will be strictly enforced by all league umpires.

Any Player Wearing An Unapproved, Altered Helmet Will Not Be Permitted To Step Into The Batter's Box.

Little League Pledge

And strive to win
But win or lose
I will always do my best

Baseball Player Bench

The Little League Bench
Down on the end is a hero to be

How do I know, the bench told me
Year after year-down on the end
A hero is born for the town to see

How do I know, the Bench told me
A New Year is near and here we go again
Remember, hero's are born, down on the end

The moral of this poem is plain to see
How do I know? That's right !
The Bench told me.
