    Thu 12/10/09 5am - 10am Revolution 91 Championship Cup Training Practice Thursday night is undecided.  Depending on how JT is doing, I thought it would be nice if the entire team could go up and visit him.  I would make that decision with his parents Wednesday night.
 
If we do visit JT Thursday night, the plan would be to leave the Puyallup area between 5 and 6pm.  Spend some time with JT at Harborview, then stop for pizza in Renton on the way back.  Players will need to bring $10/each to cover expenses.  Decision and details in the next day or two.  Watch your email!!
 
Parents:  I would need help from a few willing adults.  I work in Renton, so I would prefer to meet up with you at the hospital or in Renton somewhere.  If I have to, I'll leave work early and drive back to Puyallup to help bring players up.  Please let me ASAP know if you can do this.

I'm sure you have many questions.  Here are a few key points that may help answer those questions:
 
~  We discussed the direction of our team for the season as 'showcasing our players'.  We're committed to providing you with opportunities to do just that.
 
~ All of the Showcase tournaments that we're applying for this year are highly competitive and acceptance is absolutely not guaranteed.  It is possible that we may not get accepted into any other showcase.  I can't predict that.  This is however a firm acceptance and a very good opportunity.
 
~ Although the cost of this camp (really a showcase) is expensive at $250/player, the previously targeted Showcase of Champions was $159.  Most were willing to pay the latter amount for the opportunity for direct college exposure.  This camp designed to be a substitute for the Showcase of Champions that we were not accepted into.
 
~ What makes this worthwhile is the time you spend contacting college coaches on the list, letting them know something about yourself (player profile and/or resume) and your aspirations to attend and play soccer at their school.  Suggest you choose up to 10 but not less than 3 schools to contact.  This will be the responsibility of son and parent(s).  Most players will need parental 'prodding' and advise.  Without this work upfront, the camp/showcase is pointless.  The college coaches are mostly interested in looking at prospective players that have a desire to play for their school.  The only way they have that information is if you've already contacted them BEFORE the camp to state your intentions.  More about this point will be discussed at the College Prep Meeting this Sunday, 7-9pm at the South Hill Library.  Please plan to attend.
 
~ This is not mandatory for every player on our team.  I already plan to offset our team with guest players from Jason's U17s and from other non-attending teams.  However, the financial commitment is large and we only have until next Friday to produce a $2,000 deposit.  So, I need a firm commitment of attendance by the end of this Sunday's College Prep Meeting and if at all possible a full payment for the camp at the same time.
 
~ Several of our players have SAT commitments on June 6th (first day of the camp).  An alternate plan has been devised that would allow these players to participate the following day (Sunday).  The fee would be 1/2 at $125.  The plan is to find other players (say from Jason's team) that would want to split the camp with our players.  Total roster size is irrelevant as long as we have no more that 18 players each day.  This is very doable.  Please consider this and let me know Sunday.
 
~ I don't believe it's an overnight camp - will clarify.
~ I don't know if parent attendance is suggested - will clarify.
~ I don't know if coach attendance is suggested or even required - will clarify.

~ Captains (2008: Derek/Kevin/Joel):  You need to arrive a few minutes early to each session.  Check in with Pat.  You will be responsible for starting the first 30 minute activities (strength/agility/warm-up/stretch routine).
 
~ All Players:  Will be expected to show up on time!  You only need 5 minutes to gear up, not 15.
 
~ All Players:  Will be required to wear shin guards during intense competition.  This would include scrimmages and friendlies.  Failure to bring shin guards to training sessions will result in a sit-out for that portion of the session.  Sit-outs can affect game time.  This sounds harsh, but my first concern is the players' safety.
 
~ All Players:  Will be required to bring a properly inflated soccer ball to each training session and game.  Balls will be issued at the camp this weekend.  Other balls can be substituted for training, but I want to look uniformed at games so our official training ball will be used at that time.
 
~ All Players:  When our order comes in, the players will also be required to use training tops when we're working as a team.  This was a specific request from our Director of Coaching Greg Howes.  The intent is to represent the club while training, unify our team and help the boys prepare for the college mindset.
 
~ All Players:  Will attend training sessions.  For an excused absence, the player needs to either call or email me prior to the start of the training session - the more advanced notice the better.  Obviously emergencies aside.

This meeting with provide more insight on what it will take to be a collegiate athlete.  Pat Klein has touched on a lot of this recently.  We are trying to present as much information as possible to help you and your son with his progression.
 
The website for this produce is http://www.go-vsi.com.  It would be good to review this site prior to attending the meeting.
 
It would be optimal if the player and at least one parent could attend.  It is open to each member of our team (players and families).  If you have someone else that might be interested in attending, please run it past me first.
 
You should bring a pad/paper/pen.  The reason we are hosting this meeting is Scott will release a lot of valuable information during the meeting and you should make note of it.
 
There is no cost or obligation.  But... Scott does sell a service.  I've heard it's not a high-pressure pitch.  If it were just a pitch with no value to be gleaned, I wouldn't host it.  Like I mentioned above, Scott will give you a lot of valuable information and in the context of our meeting, it's FREE.  If you feel his services are worthwhile, please feel free to take him up on it.  Again, there is no obligation or expectations and there are certainly no kick-backs to our team or coaches for Scott's services (in case you were wondering).

It is time for our parent/player meeting to discuss the 2009-2010 soccer season.  The meeting will be at our home, this Sunday night at 6:30 pm.  Each player needs to attend with at least one of their parents.  We have some decisions to make and would like everyone's input.
