According to one coach (or two, or three...) and that penguin from the movie Madagascar, we got a job to do! Yes folks - we have some serious updating to do! The 2008 version of the Arcadia Invitational will be one to remember for quite some time! But, at the rate that some of our squads are improving, it may only be one year until new records are set!
The biggest highlight from Riverside County schools? It has to be Chaparral's girls shattering the all-time county record in the 4 x Mile! Running like seasoned veterans (i.e. freshman Xiang Tak going after Saugus) and with some of the best squads in state history, they took 4th place with four of the fastest seven marks in county history being recorded in the historic race that saw Saugus set a new state record! Even Murrieta Valley broke the old county record (their own by the way...)!
On the boys' side - Rancho Verde's boys obviously took notes in watching their girls win a relay state title in 2007! The roared to a 3:15.99 in the 4x400 and a new Riverside County #5 mark! Great Oak was right behind them with a 3:17.07!
Individually, Santiago's Rodney Storrs simply stole the show! He qualified in all four events into the night meet and won the overall 200 meters with a 21.40!! This was his 6th race of the day along with two long jumping sessions as well (in 90 degree heat)! His 200 meter mark is tied for #6 all-time county mark! He also won the daytime long jump and came back to go over 23'2" in a wind-aided mark! Finally, he led his squad to a new school record in the 4x100 and later anchored them to an even faster 42.20 to almost win the night time seeded heat!
Meanwhile, Rancho Verde sophomore Ruben Danielson is THE REAL DEAL! After going under a 1:52.5 split, in the heat of the day, he bounced back with a 1:53.69 and the #10 mark in county history! Sophomore county record for the 800 meters perhaps....?
Other highlights??? - remember we'll be updating this all morning...
**Great Oak's girls running the 2nd fastest 4 x 800 in county history and their B team running the 10th fastest ever!
**Rancho Verde boys running the fastest Sprint Medley Relay in the United States this year! La Sierra's boys ran the 5th fastest in the nation....–Another super exciting contest had the nation’s #1 and 2 times of the year, with Rancho Verde’s
super soph Ruben Danielson anchoring at 1:52.1 to help his team win over Colonie, New York 3:26.60-3:26.79. Santos anchored Colonie at 1:51.7, with Steve Norton anchoring La Sierra to a 3:30.53 in third (#5 US time of year) with his 1:52.9 800. Steven Norton and Ruben Danielson will face off in the 800 this Saturday at the Inland Empire Championships!
**ML King's girls running the 2nd fastest DMR in county history! What a 2008 season these girls are having!
**Great Oak's girls raced to the 4th fastest DMR mark in county history!
**Vista Murrieta's girls running to the 5th fastest DMR in county history and in 90 degree heat! A great (and patient) 1600m leg by Kristina Taylor was awesome!
**Rancho Verde junior Brittany Bozeman is taking a liking to that Triple Jump as she improved out to a 38'1" for the #8 all-time county mark!
**La Sierra senior Tanya Martinez went huge with a 135'4" fling of the discus and for the win in the Saturday Open Session! This is the #14 all-time county mark and a new school record! Great job Coach B!
**Great Oak's Boys 4x400 Team went 3:17.07 and a new #5 all-time county mark!
**Corona senior Raul Arcos dug into the well for his negative split 2:13-2:07 victory in the Seeded Mile! This was after splitting 1:54.6 and 4:18.1 the night before to lead his relay squads to new school record (and the #4 AT mark in the 4 x Mile). He later came back to post a 4:21 in the DMR.
**RV sophomore Alycia Herring flew to a 19'5.25" for a new personal best! There was a NWI so we're not sure if it will stand as a legal jump. If it does, it is the new #8 mark in Riverside County history!
**In the continuing battle of the Triple Jumpers here in Riverside County, Santiago's Chris Benard outlasted the duo from Vista Murrieta with a 48'5". This was a legal jump and is now the #4 all-time mark!
We're getting to the individual results soon enough...
