Redlands Baseball/Softball for Youth: Spring 2012 Divisions
Age 4 as of January 1st, 2012. Participation and fun are emphasized! Play is with a safety-soft t-ball and players hit off a tee. Games are 2 innings long with an inning consisting of everyone batting once. Neither runs nor outs are recorded. The entire team plays defense regardless of the number of players on a team. Bases are 50 feet apart.
Shetland Baseball
League ages 5 and 6. Play is with a safety-soft t-ball and players hit off a tee. Games are 5 innings or 75 minutes. Defense consists of 10 players assigned to specific positions and all players are rotated to guarantee maximum playing time on the field. All players bat in a rotation. An inning consists of 4 runs or 3 outs. Bases are 50 feet apart
Pinto 7 Coach Pitch Baseball
League ages 7 (and 8). This league is required for all 7 year olds and recommended for 8 year olds that are not ready for player pitch. The choice of where to place an 8 year old is left to the parents. Instruction of the fundamental baseball skills is emphasized. Games are 6 innings or 90 minutes. Coaches pitch to the players to help them make the transition to live pitching. More hit balls than in Pinto PLayer Pitch allows for an abundance of infield and outfield play, and sharpens the players fielding skills. It is fast paced and high scoring. Defense consists of 10 players to allow for additional playing time for each player in the field. All players are required to play 2 innings in the field. All players bat in a rotation. An inning consists of 6 runs or 3 outs. Bases are 55 feet apart. There is a regular season, a post-season tournament and players are eligible for All-Star participation. Pinto 8 Player Pitch Baseball
League ages 8 only. This league is a step up from Coach Pitch, adding the fundamentals of pitching, catching and batting off another player. Games are 6 innings or 90 minutes. Players pitch to the players. Pinto permits players to pitch 2 innings. Hits and strikeouts apply as in the major leagues, but if a player gets four balls a coach comes in and pitches rather than a walk being issued. Games are usually lower scoring, like a major league game. Defense consists of 10 players to allow for additional playing time for each player in the field. All players are required to play 2 innings in the field. All players bat in a rotation. An inning consists of 5 runs or 3 outs. Bases are 55 feet apart and the pitching distance is 38 feet. There is a regular season, a post-season tournament and players are eligible for All-Star participation.
Mustang Baseball
League ages 9 and 10. Players play real baseball. Games are 6 innings or 90 minutes. Players are permitted to pitch 3 innings. Leading-off and base stealing are permitted. Defense consists of 10 players and all players are required to play 2 innings in the field. All players bat in a rotation. An inning consists of 5 runs or 3 outs. Most of the rules are similar to major league baseball. Bases are 60 feet apart and the pitching distance is 44 feet. There is a regular season, a post-season tournament and players are eligible for All-Star participation.
Bronco Baseball
League ages 11 and 12. Players are taught the entire game of baseball. Games are 7 innings or 2 hours. Players are permitted to pitch 4 innings. Defense consists of 9 players and all players are required to play 3 innings in the field. All players bat in a rotation. Bases are 70 feet apart and the pitching distance is 48 feet. There is a regular season, a post-season tournament and players are eligible for All-Star participation.
Pony Baseball
League ages 13 and 14. This division is best described as a transition program between youth and high school baseball. Games are 7 innings or 2 hours. Players are permitted to pitch 5 innings. Defense consists of 9 players and all players are required to play 3 innings in the field. All players bat in a rotation. Bases are 80 feet apart and the pitching distance is 54 feet. There is a regular season, a post-season tournament and players are eligible for All-Star participation.
Colt Baseball
League ages 15 and 16 (or 14 and played freshmen baseball rather then Pony). The short season begins at the end of the high school season. It consists of minimal practice and 10-12 games. Games are 7 innings or 2 hours. Players are permitted to pitch 5 innings. Defense consists of 9 players and all players are required to play 3 innings in the field. All players bat in a rotation. Bases are 90 feet apart and the pitching distance is 60 feet-6 inches. There is a regular season, a post-season tournament and players are eligible for All-Star participations.
6U Softball

12U Softball
Ages 11 and 12. A player's age as of January 1st, 2012 determines the division in which she is eligible to play the following year. Play is with the adult size 12 inch softball. Players are taught the entire game of softball with the emphasis on skill development and game strategy. Games are 7 innings or 90 minutes. Players are permitted to pitch 4 innings. Defense consists of 9 players and all players are required to play 3 innings in the field. All players bat in a rotation. Most of the rules are similar to high school softball. Bases are 60 feet apart and the pitching distance is 40 feet. There is a regular season, a post-season tournament and players are eligible for All-Star participation.
14U Softball

Ages 15 through 18. A player's age as of January 1st, 2012 determines the division in which she is eligible to play the following year. The short season begins at the end of the high school season. 14 year olds that played high school softball this year are eligible to play in this division and are eligible to play 14U all stars.
