Future of the Queensbury Lacrosse Club

As the 2008 season comes to an end, I will be resigning as the president of the Queensbury lacrosse club.  I have to take an exam in 2009 to keep my board certification as a family doctor.  I will play a limited role coaching the 7-8 level in 2009 with my son Matthew.  I have been coaching for 8 years and been the chief administrator for 3 full years.

The club has made great progress.  A website has been added.  Coaches have attended pre-season clinics.  My core beliefs of sportsmanship and respect for others have been promoted universally with parents, coaches and players.  I will also add that over the past 3-5 years we have recruited and retained an exceptional coaching staff.  An added bonus is that our players and teams have been competitive with all of the lacrosse clubs in the capital district.

A group of parents will need to get involved if the club is to continue in a positive direction.  Four years ago, I had 2 sons playing lacrosse and the club had no leadership.  If it had continued in the direction it was going, it may have not survived.  I decided to get involved for the benefit of the community and my children.  Great improvements were achieved.  The club needs to advance and develop.

Parental involvement is crucial.  At the completion of this season, several of the key parents involved with the league for the past 3-4 years will no longer be involved as their children are phasing out of youth lacrosse.   Parents in the grade 3-4 and 5-6 levels need to take over the club. Ideally, a group of 3-6 parents need to get involved.

Please contact me at Reeves@Irongatefamilypractice.com.  There will be an end of the season meeting at Davidson Brother’s Brewery on Wednesday, June 25, 7pm.  If you are interested in the club continuing,  please attend the meeting.
