QUICKSTART

PATA is proud of a program which was started this fall in Marshall County.  A group of tennis enthusists decided that they wanted to create a Quickstart program for grades kindergarten through 5th grade.  Terri Thorpe and Kevin Court met with Jason Miller of KTA/STA and developed a plan to provide the program.  The goal was to teach the Quickstart method and generate some interest with the hopes of having 45 or 50 kids.  To there surprise and amazement on registration day they had 105 kids sign up to play.  Each child was given a racquet and a shirt for signing up.  This goes on record as the most successful program in PATA's short history.  PATA instructors and volunteers offered their assistance, but the majority of the work was provided by Marshall County parents and volunteers. Way to go.

HELP YOUR LOCAL CTA BY SIGNING UP ALL OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS. HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP.

IF YOU HAVE A "FAMILY MEMBERSHIP", REGISTER ALL OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS YOUNG AND OLD WHETHER THEY PLAY TENNIS OR NOT.  THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS.  LAST YEAR, WE SAW A 5O PERSON DROP IN MEMBERSHIP CAUSING US TO RECEIVE FEWER DOLLARS FROM KTA AND SOUTHERN IN 2009.   WE NEED AS MANY PEOPLE TO SIGN UP AS POSSIBLE.  OUR GRANT MONEY IS DETERMINED BY THESE MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS AND THIS HELPS OUR CTA PROVIDE FREE CLINICS, TENNIS INSTRUCTION, PROGRAMS,  AND OTHER ACTIVITIES FOR OUR MEMBERS.

YOUR CTA NEEDS YOU

Purchase Area tennis is growing.  In order to better serve you the Purchase Area Tennis Association needs to expand.  We are looking for volunteers to be on specific committees.  The needs of tennis in the area have far outgrown what our small CTA can service.  Suggested committees -  Fundraising Committee, Windscreen Committee, Lights Committee, Annual Scott Thompson Tournament Committee............  If we have committees and divide up the task among many people it will not be a burden on a small few people.  Any suggestions or input on this subject would be appreciated and if you or someone you know would like to be involved contact any CTA representative.

LIGHTS AT SCOTT THOMPSON

This past month there was a glitch with the lights at Scott Thompson.  They were stuck in the on position.  Your CTA pays for those lights.  Please remember to turn them off when you are done playing and to call us when you think there is a problem with them.  It will save us a lot of money that could be going to many other tennis projects and programs.

SUPPORT YOUR TENNIS ASSOCIATION

On both the "League" and "Certified Tennis Association" web pages you will find two new buttons.  The "Support our Team" and "Sportswear" buttons are on the left hand side of the screen.  The "Support our Team" button will take you to a page that you can order or renew any magazine subscription.  For every subscription you order or renew a small percentage will go directly to your CTA.  If you are going to order magazines do it here to help you local CTA.  These funds benefit all players of all ages in our Purchase Area.   This is an easy way you can show your support.
The "Sportswear" button is strictly to benefit you and or your teams with a place to order products with the "Purchase Area" logo.

USTA MEMBERSHIPS
***ATTENTION*** - USTA tennis players with family memberships
USTA Southern, is looking closely at each CTA and their membership numbers. In an effort to increase our membership numbers, we are asking you to do something for our CTA. It will not cost you anything, but it will help all of us in the long run. When you get or renew your family membership each year, sign up all of your family members.

The Purchase Area Tennis Association is working hard to provide tennis programs for the participants in Western Kentucky and West Tennessee. We appreciate each of you and will continue to create programs to grow tennis in our region.

WYNNE TOURNAMENTS

The USTA Southern Section is a sponsor of Wynne Tournaments. They would like to invite you and your teammates to participate in recreational tennis tournaments. You now have the opportunity to play in a national tournament without having to win a sectional or regional play-off.

Please call (888) 571-9944 to request brochures, registration forms, or additional information. This is a great opportunity to play in a fun recreational tennis tournament, spend time with friends, and escape the winter doldrums.
