Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for your interest in the Premier Dance Team for the 2009-2010 season! The Premier Dance Team is the club dance team at the University of Minnesota and our mission is to give high school dancers the opportunity to dance in college. We also have the privilege of working with our amazing coach, Lindsay Brown.

The audition schedule is as follows:

Thursday, September 10th, 2009 9:00 pm-11:00 pm. Registration begins at 8:00 p.m.

Friday, September 11th, 2009 7:00 pm-9:00 pm

Saturday, September 12th, 2009 11 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Optional open gym for extra rehearsal.

Sunday, September 13th, 2009 11:00 am-2:00 pm (tentative)

All those who are selected for the 2009-2010 team will be notified by telephone on Sunday afternoon. At 7:00 p.m., the first team meeting will take place. Please leave your Sunday evening open as this time is tentative. All tryouts will be held in Cooke Hall, Room 308 (connected to the Rec Center by skyway) on the University of Minnesota East Bank campus. There is a registration fee of $20 per dancer that will be collected on the first night of auditions (no checks please). Unfortunately, we cannot let you dance if you have not paid the registration fee.

During the first two days, dancers will be taught a section of choreography. On Saturday, we will have an optional practice without the coaches present to practice on your own and ask questions. The final audition takes place on Sunday in small groups in front of a panel of judges. For the tryout, we are looking for a strong overall jazz technique. Skills that are included in choreography consist of pirouettes, fouettes, leaps, and other various jazz skills. We are also looking for a strong jazz style with dance team precision.

For those dancers who are asked to be a part of the team, there is a mandatory choreography weekend that dancers must attend. On September 26th and 27th, the team will be learning the jazz competition routine. Practices will be held twice a week on both Sunday and Wednesday nights in Cooke Hall at the Rec Center. An initial fee of $350 will be required if you are asked to join a team. As a part of the team, you will also be asked to participate in two fundraising activities to cover any additional costs.
