We will hold a player/parent meeting 0n May 16.
Post 89 will once again compete in the Oneonta Green Wave Wood Bat Classic July 10-12. Eight teams from the Northeast will compete in 2 Divisions.
The 2009 Broome County playoffs will be held July 13-16. The 2009 District 6 Tournament will begin July 18 and run for approximately a week. The NY State Tournament will be held in Utica, NY July 27-August 2, 2009. The 2009 Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament will be held in Morgantown, W. Virginia August 6-10. The American Legion World Series is being held in Fargo, N.Dakota Aug. 14-18, 2009.
Post 89 returned only 2 players from the 2007 team. Post 89 finished the 2008 season with a 6-21 overall record and with a 4-10 record in the Broome County League. However, the young Post 89 team finished strongly winning 3 of it's last 5 games, including a 1 run loss. Post 89 looks forward to competing in 2009 with 15 returning players.
Post 89 participated in 4 tournaments in 2008: Post 89 participated in the Father's Day Tournament in Utica, NY June 14-15. The tournament was sponsored by Utica Post 229. Post 89 also played in the Broome County Hall of Fame Tourney June 18,19 and 21 at Conlon Field. Post 89 accepted an invitation to play in the First Annual Adrean Blue Gold Classic July 3-6 in Utica, NY. Fourteen teams from the US/Puerto Rico participated in 2 Divisions. Post 89 also competed in the 11th Annual “Oneonta Green Wave Classic” held in Oneonta, N.Y. on July 11-13. The tournament format was wood bat only for the first time in 2008. Ten teams from the Northeast participated in 2 Divisions.
Purpose and Scope of American Legion Baseball
1. To inculcate in our American youth a better understanding of the American way of life and to promote 100% Americanism.
2. To instill in our National youth a sincere desire to develop within themselves a feeling of citizenship, sportsmanship, loyalty and team spirit.
3. To aid in the improvement and development of the physical fitness of our country's youth.
4. To build for the Nation's future through our development of our youth.
These are the four permanent and unchanging goals of the American Legion Baseball Program.

This award is dedicated to the memory of Keith Kenderes. Keith played on Vestal Post 89 Baseball teams from 1991-95. This scholarship is a tribute to his life and hopefully will award players, who keep the spirit he carried onto the field alive. The award is open to graduating seniors on the Post 89 team. Those interested players should apply by July 15th, 2010.
The 11th annual Keith Kenderes Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held at noon on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Traditions at the Glen. The funds raised from the tournament will benefit the Keith Kenderes Memorial Scholarship Fund. Teams or individual players are invited to participate. Format is captain and crew and the price is $80/person. Includes steak dinner, beer, soda, gift and prizes. Please make checks payable to: "Keith Kenderes Post 89 Scholarship Fund".
