Platform Elite will be conducting tryouts for the 2008-2009 season upon the conclusion of the junior high and high school fall season.  Tryouts will be held at Beyond the Baseline in Davenport, IA.  Exact dates and times will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Katie Hosteng, a 2009 6'-1" MB from Galesburg H.S., has verbally commited to Western Illinois University in Macomb.  Hosteng, who will be a rising Senior and playing her third year on varsity for the Silver Streaks this Fall was a member of the Platform Elite 17 Team and the Iowa Region USAV High Performance Women's Junior National Team that finished 4th in international competition in Tuscon this summer.

A combined Platform Elite 17’s team emerged from the JVDA Championships earning a respectful 21^st place out of 52 teams from across the nation. 

Platform Elite, the 44^th seed in the 17 Club Division, came together in key moments over the four day competition to finish with a record of 5-5.  Four losses over the first two days came from teams that finished 1^st, 3^rd, 5^th and 5^th overall.

Congratulations on a fine season, ladies!

Three Platform Elite players have been selected to travel to Tucson, Arizona in July to compete in the USA HP Championships against the best from regional and national HP teams, Canada and Puerto Rico.  The trio will train at a team camp for five days prior to the tournament.

Kendra Barnes and Emily Podschweit from Platform Elite 15 were chosen for the Girl's USA Select Iowa HP team comprised of ladies born after 1994.  Katie Hosteng from Platform Elite 17 was selected to compete with the Women's Junior National Iowa HP team made up of 17 and 18 year olds.

Trained for four grueling days of HP camp at Upper Iowa University with the methods of USA volleyball, the three were selected from an elite group of campers who survived a tryout process that included hundreds of girls from the Iowa Region.

The Platform Elite 16's Assistant Coach has accepted a Graduate Assistant coaching position with Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Viginia.

Jami is a Davenport Central HS and Mississippi State University alum having competed in volleyball at both schools.

The Spartans are a NCAA Div. I institution and compete in the Mid-eastern Athletic Conference.

Erin Higgins, a 2008 6'0" MH and two-year varsity starter from Pleasant Valley High School, has signed her NLI to play at the University of Missouri - Saint Louis.  Higgins, who has played volleyball for less than two years, recently completed her second season with Platform Elite.  During her short career, Higgins has garnered many prep and club recognitions including: '07 MAC Player of the Year; '07 MAC All-Conf. 1st Team; '07 IGCA 4A All-State 2nd Team; '07 4A IGCA Southeast Region All-District; '07 IGCA Volleyball Senior All-Star; '07 USAV HP Iowa Region Camp, Iowa Women's Junior National Team and '06 MAC All-Conf. Honorable Mention.

Emily Tuisl, a 2008 5'-10" OH, has committed to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.  The three-year varsity starter and Team Captain at Clinton HS joined Platform Elite for her Senior campaign after playing club ball for Clinton teams the past four years.  Tuisl's accomplishments include: '07 MAC All-Conf. 1st Team, '06 MAC All-Conf. 2nd Team, '07 USAV H.P. WJNT Iowa Region Team, USAV WJNT Global Challenge, Utah and invited to attend the '08 Iowa HP Camp.

Hundreds of the top volleyball players in the Iowa Region attended tryouts at various locations in the past month.  From the hundreds who tried, 24 to 35 from each age group were invited to the Iowa HP Camp at Upper Iowa University on June 12-15.  Camp attendees will receive instruction from some of the best college, club and HS coaches in the area on techniques used by the USA Men's and Women's National teams with a 4:1 coach to camper ratio.  In addition, there will be a chance to be selected for a spot on the Iowa HP Team roster to compete at the USA HP Championships in Tuscon, Arizona in July.

This week, it was the Platform Elite 14's and 15's turn to spend three days competing in Minneapolis against teams from across the nation in fields of 88 teams and 99 teams respectively.

Platform Elite 15's finished the week with a 6-2 record and 9th place in the Gold Division.
The 14's team competed well enough to stay in the top division and finished 3rd in Flight 1.

Alexis Mitchell, a 2009 6'-0" MH from Davenport Central HS and Platform Elite 17,
has verbally committed to play volleyball for the University of Wisconsin Badgers in Madison. 
Mitchell is completing her second year with Platform Elite VBC.  Mitchell's accomplisments include 
MAC All-Conf. 1st Team; IGCA 4A All-State Special Mention; IGCA Southeast Region All-District; 
All-Academic Team; USAV HP Iowa Region Camp and Iowa Girl's Youth National Team; and Clinton HS

Three Platform Elite teams travelled to Minneapolis this week to compete against teams form across the nation.  Congratulations to the 16's, 17's and 18's teams for competing at a high level in this season of growth and learning.

The 17's team finished 5th in the Silver Division winning 4 matches.
The 18's team with many completing their club volleyball careers, finished 5th in the Bronze Division.
The 16's team completed the tournament finishing 3rd in Flight 1.
