Pittsford took first place or swam fastest in ten of 12 events as the Panthers cruised past Canandaigua, 102-79, at Mendon Pool. With the win, the Panthers clinched their seventh straight Monroe County Championship title. Brandon McManus won the 200 IM and the 100 back as Pittsford improved to 8-1 in dual meets and 2-0 in tournaments this season.
The January 21 match was “Senior Recognition Meet” where head coach Mark Morris paid tribute to four swimmers who are concluding their high school careers – Abhay Seetharaman and co-captains McManus, Lee Silverstein and Kevin Maier.
“They’ve left an unbelievably powerful blueprint for our younger swimmers,” Morris said, “setting examples through their work ethic, dedication to perfection, and all-around class and sportsmanship.”
Pittsford also paid tribute to nine Canandaigua seniors and officially welcomed Canandaigua Academy as a new member of the Monroe County league.
The bleachers were packed with supporters of both teams as Pittsford again showed why it will be the top seed at the upcoming Section 5 championship meet. Alan Chuang, Matt Tanchick, McManus and Tyler McCrobie led things off with a 1:42.44 for first place in the 200 medley relay. Silverstein, Will Dawson, Ryan Horey and Owen Drinkwater took third for the Panthers in the event.
Morgan Marin followed with a win in the 200 free (1:51.79), with Stephen Thomas second and Max Goodenow taking third place. McManus had his first individual victory in the 200 IM (2:07.81), with Silverstein second and Brett Eslinger third. Emmett Jacobi and Tyler McCrobie then tied for first place in the 50 free, both hitting the wall at 23.23. In the diving competition, Sam Randall took third place for Pittsford with 180.35 points.
Following diving, Tanchick won the 100 fly (55.75), with Jacobi second and Silverstein third. McCrobie was second in the 100 free (50.75), with Maier in third place. Alex Branch won the 500 free in 5:06.80, with Thomas second and Chuang third. McManus had his second win on the day in the 100 back (56.49), with Tanchick second. Dawson had the Panthers other individual victory, a time of 1:05.55 in the 100 breast.
Swimming exhibition, Marin, Drinkwater, McCrobie and Jacobi had the fastest time in the 200 free relay (1:31.44). In the 400 free relay, also in exhibition, two Pittsford relay teams swam the fastest times. Jacobi, Branch, Goodenow and Tanchick turned in a time of 3:26.64, and Marin, Chuang, Maier and McManus were right next to them at 3:27.00.
Pittsford’s junior varsity also had a good meet, downing Canandaigua’s JV, 102-72, to remain undefeated.
