Pittsford’s finmen set eight records at the new Gates Chili pool as the Panthers cruised to their ninth straight victory this season, 106-74, at an away meet on January 20. Emmett Jacobi and Morgan Marin were double winners for Pittsford, with Jacobi taking first in the 200 and 500 free events and Marin the victor in the 200 IM and the 100 breast.
With only about half a dozen meets taking place so far at the new pool, the record board was up for grabs. Pittsford took advantage by putting up numbers for other teams to meet or beat next season in the majority of events.
Andrew Maier, Marin, Brandon McManus and John Lyman set the first record for Pittsford, winning the 200 medley relay in 1:44.72. Pittsford then swept the top three spots in the 200 free, with Jacobi getting his first win with a time of 1:51.83. McManus was second and Alex Branch third in the event. Marin’s first victory, the 200 IM (2:07.58), set the second pool record. Matt Tanchick finished second and Lee Silverstein placed third in the IM.
Dan Locke had the third record, a winning time of 22.89 in the 50 free. Tyler McCrobie was second and Kevin Maier third for the Panthers. The fourth record came in the 100 fly, a time of 58.08 by Ryan Horey. Silverstein placed second in the fly for Pittsford and Shea Ransford was third. Lyman followed with the fifth record, a time of 50.38 in the 100 free. McCrobie took second place and K. Maier third.
Jacobi’s second victory came in the 500 free (4:58.53). McManus was second and Tanchick third in the event.
Lyman, McCrobie, A. Maier and Locke swam exhibition in the 200 free relay, but their time of 1:32.42 will count as the sixth pool record set on the day. A. Maier won the 100 back with a time of 1:01.26. Marin followed with his second win and the seventh pool record in the 100 breast, a time of 1:08.15. The eighth and final pool record was set by the 400 free relay team of McCrobie, McManus, Lyman and Locke, a time of 3:26.74, also in exhibition.
In the diving competition, Alex Byrd placed third for Pittsford with 176.25 points.
It was the 70th straight dual meet victory for the Monroe County Division 1 champions. The Panthers also came in first in both the Owego Invitational and the “Fab 4 Invitational” at Bath this year.
