The Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team opened the defense of their Section 5 crown with a convincing win over Victor, 95-78, in an away meet on December 4.
It was the 62nd straight dual meet victory for the Panthers, who have won the last six Section 5, Class A championships and five straight Monroe County Division One titles.
Andrew Maier, Dan Locke, Morgan Marin and John Lyman easily won the opening 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.82. Alan Chuang, Ryan Horey, Lee Silverstein and Owen Drinkwater took second place for the Panthers in the event.
Emmitt Jacobi followed with a victory in the 200 free (1:50.64), with Brandon McManus second and Matt Tanchick third. Andrew Maier was first in the 200 IM (2:10.41), with Tyler McCrobie a close second. Locke’s time of 22.98 took first place in the 50 free, with Lyman second and Drinkwater third.
In the diving competition, Alex Byrd took second place for Pittsford with 154.25 points.
Following diving, Marin took the 100 fly (56.75), followed by McManus in second and Horey in third place. Locke picked up his second individual victory in the 100 free (50.39), with Lyman in second and Kevin Maier in third. Jacobi’s second win came in the 500 free (4:55.56), with Tanchick second.
Pittsford swam the rest of the meet exhibition, turning in the fastest time in each event.
The Panther’s junior varsity also recorded a win over Victor’s JV, 99-71.
Head Coach Mark Morris noted that the Panthers graduated ten seniors last season and that the 2008-09 team is one of the youngest he’s ever coached. Pittsford will be led this year by four co-captains, seniors Locke, Maier, Lyman and Byrd.
The major test for the team this week will be a road trip to the Owego Invitational on Saturday, where the Panther’s will try for their fourth straight tournament victory.
