Pittsford clinched its fifth straight Monroe County Division I swim title with a 104-82 victory over a strong Webster team. The win capped another unbeaten season for the Panthers (12-0) and extended their winning streak in dual meets to 61, one of the longest in Section 5 history.
Seniors Andrew Kuter and Nate French each won twice, as the Panthers took first place in nine of 12 events, including all three relays.
The meet opened with Andrew Maier, Sean McManus, Dan Locke and John Lyman posting a 1:42.73 for first place in the 200 medley relay. French followed with a first in the 200 free (1:45.54). Kenny Pink won the 200 IM (2:02.99), with Sean McManus second. Kuter’s 22.21 took first in the 50 free, with Locke placing third. Locke also had a second place for Pittsford in the 100 fly. In the diving competition, Alex Byrd placed third for Pittsford.
Kuter’s second win of the day came in the 100 free (49.49). French followed with his second victory, a state-best and All America consideration time of 4:39.92 in the 500 free. Brandon McManus was second for the Panthers in the distance event, with a personal best time of 4:58.81, qualifying for the state meet.
Kuter, Pink, Sean McManus and French teamed up to win the 200 free relay (1:29.77). Maier was second for Pittsford in the 100 back. Sean McManus won the 100 breast (1:03.71) with teammate Lee Silverstein coming in second. Kuter, Locke, Pink and French closed the meet with a win in the 400 free relay (3:20.05).
Pittsford’s junior varsity downed Webster’s JV, 107-65, to also finish the season undefeated in dual meets. Matt Tanchick won the 200 free and the 500 free. Ryan Horey was the victor in the 200 IM and the 100 fly. Owen Drinkwater won the 50 free and the 100 free. Alan Chuang took first place in the 100 back and Vincent Criscuolo won the 100 breast for the Panther’s JV.
The final dual meet of the season took place at Mendon Pool on January 31.
Pittsford recognized ten graduating seniors at the meet, co-captains Sean McManus and Kenny Pink, Nate French, Andrew Kuter, Nick Allwell, Spencer Brown, Alex Hannan, Andrew Kirkley, Zac Lux and Anders Wahl. Head Coach Mark Morris thanked the parents and volunteers who support the swimming and diving program, including members of the girls swim team who do the announcing, run the scoreboard, and assist the coaches at meets.
Earlier in the week, Pittsford defeated Greece, 107-42. In individual events, the winners included Kuter (200 free), Brandon McManus (200 IM), French (50 free), Pink (100 fly), Emmett Jacobi (100 free), Tyler McCrobie (500 free), Locke (100 back) and Drinkwater (100 breast).
Next up for Pittsford will be the defense of their Section 5 crown at Sectionals, February 15-16, at the Webster Aquatic Center.
