PITTSFORD SWIMS BY BRIGHTON FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT VICTORY

The Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team opened the New Year by clinching its fifth straight dual meet victory of the season, a convincing 106-74 victory over Brighton.  Seniors Andrew Kuter and Nate French were double winners for the Panthers, who took first place in ten of 12 events.

Kuter, French, Andrew Maier and Sean McManus opened the meet by posting a 1:42:00 for first place in the 200 medley relay.  Brandon McManus, Lee Silverstein, Dan Locke and Tyler McCrobie finished second in the event.

French followed with his first individual win, a 1:49.13 in the 200 free.  Brandon McManus was second and Locke third.  Kenny Pink took first in the 200 IM (2:04.53), with McCrobie third.  Kuter won the 50 free in 22.16, with teammate Lyman in second place.  Kuter also won the next event, the 100 fly, in 56.93, with Locke taking second.

In one of the closest races of the day, Lyman took first in the 100 free in 52.27, teammate McCrobie was second with 52.34 and Brighton’s Yuri Chornobil was third with a time of 52.44.

French’s second win came in the 500 free (4:51.70), with Pink second (4:57.60).  Both times qualified for the state meet.   Maier took the 100 back with a 1:00.23.  Silverstein won the 100 breast in 1:08.62, and Scott Lasher was the victor in the diving competition.             Head Coach Mark Morris said he was pleased with his team’s performance, especially after a hard week of practice over the holiday break.

Pittsford’s junior varsity also notched another win, 95-64, over the Brighton JV.  The Panther’s JV had three double winners on the day.

Josh Kapilivsky won the 50 free and 100 back.  Matt Tanchick was the victor in the 200 IM and the 500 free.  Owen Drinkwater took the 100 free and the 100 breast.  Other individual event winners included Charlie Harrington in the 200 free and Ryan Horey in the 100 fly.

The meet took place at Mendon Pool on January 3.
