This year’s tournament raised $2,480 for the American Diabetes Association, the most in the 34-year history of the event. Of the total, $840 came from donations from the teams taking part in the event.
"The thing that I’m most proud of, being associated with this for the past 34 years, is the participation of the teams” Coach Morris said.
Morris also praised the volunteer officials –Ralph Simpson, Greg Horrocks, Andrea Zucchiatti and Seth Sealfon – who donated their time to help make the tournament possible. He also thanked the members of the girls swim team who pitched in to run the clock and keep score.
Earlier in the day, Penfield defeated Fairport 12-4 to win the consolation round. Swimmers from Churchville Chili also took part in this year’s tournament.
The benefit for the American Diabetes Association was the second pre-season charity event the Pittsford swim team took part in. Earlier in the fall, the boys and girls swimming and diving teams participated in the annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk in downtown Rochester. The combined team effort raised more than $3,000 for research to find a cure for breast cancer.
