PITTSFORD AGAIN CLINCHES NUMBER ONE RANKING IN NYS
PITTSFORD SWIMMERS AGAIN RANKED NUMBER ONE IN NEW YORK STATE
Members of the Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team will soon have another patch to sew on their varsity jackets – the one that says “#1 in New York State.” For the fifth year in a row, the Panthers have earned the top ranking in New York among public high schools for their performance at dual meets.
For head coach Mark Morris and the Pittsford swimmers and divers, the number one ranking caps a nearly “perfect season,” with the Panthers winning all their dual meets and taking both the Monroe County and Section 5 Class A crowns.
“We have terrific athletes with a strong commitment and great support from the swimming community,” coach Morris said. “It’s a very special program.”
At their recent end-of-season swim banquet, the Monroe County All County selections were announced and, once again, Pittsford dominated the listings. The Panthers had nine swimmers named to the First Team: Nate French, Andrew Kuter, Matt Lobban, Dan Locke, Wills DeMoulin, Kenny Pink, Sean McManus, Jimmy Prezzano and Matt VanVoorhis. Named to the All County Second Team were John Lyman, Andrew Maier, Brandon McManus and Lee Silverstein.
The Panthers also honored their own at the banquet, giving this year’s Sportsmanship Award to co-captain Matt Lobban and the MVP Award to Nate French.
Pittsford also had six swimmers selected for the inaugural All Greater Rochester swimming team by the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle: Nate French, Andrew Kuter, Dan Locke, Kenny Pink, Sean McManus and Jimmy Prezzano. In addition, Matt VanVoorhis, Matt Lobban and Wills DeMoulin received Honorable Mention, and Panther’s head coach Mark Morris was named All Greater Rochester Swimming Coach of the Year.
Swimmers were selected for the All Greater Rochester team based on their top two times in individual events and for their participation on winning relays at the Sectional Championships. Coach Morris was honored for the winning tradition he’s built in Pittsford, including the team’s current 49-0 winning streak in dual meets and five straight Sectional crowns.
“All the honors we’ve received this year have been great for the program,” Coach Morris said. But he also noted one statistic that doesn’t show up in the won-loss column.
“All eight of our graduating seniors are Academic All Americans, with at least a 3.7 grade point average” Morris said. “I don’t think that’s ever happened before, and that’s pretty impressive.”
The eight seniors are Wills DeMoulin, Ben French, Ari Kapilivsky, Matt Lobban, Jeff Parvin, Jimmy Prezzano, Charlie Shaddock and Matt VanVoorhis.
