PITTSFORD SWIMMERS OPEN WITH WIN AT LOCKPORT
(Click on headline for full results or view the results in the "Handouts" section of this site.)

Andrew Kuter won the 25 free and the 50 free and Kenny Pink took first place in the 50 breaststroke as the Pittsford Swimming and Diving Team continued their domination of the season-opening Lockport Sprint Invitational.

With nine teams competing, the top three finishers in each event received medals and the top 16 scored points for their teams. Pittsford challenged for medals in nearly every event, scoring a total of 459 points, well ahead of second place Canisius at 372.

Andrew Maier, Kenny Pink, Sean McManus and Tyler McCrobie took Bronze in the opening 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.78. Brandon McManus, Ben French, Lee Silverstein and Nick Haas turned in a time of 1:55.79, good enough for tenth place in the medley.

Nate French followed with a third place finish in the 100 free, with Kuter placing fifth, Jimmy Prezzano seventh and John Lyman 12th. Pink took second place in the 100 IM, with McManus fourth and French fifth.

“I was very pleased with the consistency of our returning swimmers, our juniors and seniors,” Coach Mark Morris said.

“I was even more pleased with the way our sophomores, freshmen and new swimmers stepped it up. The younger swimmers showed great improvement and they’ll definitely be contributing to varsity this year,” Morris said.

Kuter won his first Gold in the 25 free with an impressive time of 10.39, the second year in a row he took first place in the event at Lockport. Dan Locke was second for Pittsford with 10.89, Maier was 11th and Matt VanVoorhis came in 16th.

In the 400 free relay, Matt Lobban teamed up with French, Pink and Lyman for a Silver Medal with a time of 3:29.89. Pittsford’s “B” relay, with McCrobie, Maier, McManus and Silverstein, just missed Bronze in the same event. Their time of 3:38.04 was just 1/100 of a second behind third place Niagara Wheatfield.

Locke, Sean McManus and Prezzano finished fourth, fifth and tenth in the 50 fly. Kuter scored his second Gold with a 22.62 in the 50 free, with Locke fifth and Lyman 16th. French, Lobban and Maier took fourth, fifth and eighth for Pittsford in the 50 back.

In the 50 breast, Pink’s 28.58 took the Gold Medal and Sean McManus brought home Bronze with a 29.81. VanVoorhis and Ben French finished 11th and 12th, also scoring points for the team.

In the concluding 200 free relay, Kuter, Locke, McCrobie and Lobban brought home the Silver, with Lyman, Hass, Ari Kapilivsky and Brandon McManus finishing tenth.

The meet took place on December 2 at Lockport High School, outside of Buffalo. Earlier in the week, Pittsford elected its captains for the 2006-2007 Season, seniors Matt Lobban and Jimmy Prezzano.
