PITTSFORD’S MEDLAY RELAY TEAM WINS BRONZE AT STATE MEET

The Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team brought home the bronze medal in the 200 yard medley relay at the State Championship Meet in Buffalo on March 4.
Ben Silverstein, Kenny Pink, Sean McManus and Andrew Kuter turned in a time of 1:39.84 to take third place, the top performance for Pittsford at the state finals. The Panthers were just 5/100th of a second behind the second place relay team from Jamesville DeWitt and 1/10th of a second from All American Consideration time.
Pittsford sent all three of its relay teams to the state meet for the first time in a number of years. In the sprint relay, the 200 free team of Kuter, Jimmy Prezzano, Charlie Ruff and Nathan French won the consolation heat with a time of 1:30.52, taking ninth place overall. The 400 free relay team of Ruff, Prezzano, McManus and French finished with a 3:20.60 for 15th place.
The top 16 swimmers scored points for their teams at the championships, eight in finals and eight in a consolation heat. The field was narrowed at a preliminary round at Erie Community College on March 3, with the top 16 swimmers in each event advancing to swim the next day.
Pink was in two individual events for Pittsford, finishing 16th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.50, and 15th in the 100 breast with 1:02.04. French was 10th for Pittsford in the 500 free with a time of 4:45.61.
Pittsford sent seven swimmers to the championships, the most from Section 5. Those qualifying for states and swimming in the preliminary round included: Ruff and French (200 yard free); Silverstein, Prezzano and Pink (200 IM); Kuter (50 free); Ruff, Prezzano and Kuter (100 Free); French (500 free); Silverstein (100 back); Pink and McManus (100 breast). In addition to Pink swimming in finals, McManus was first alternate in the event.
The Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team completed their 2005-06 season undefeated in dual meets and were Monroe County and Section 5, Division 1, Class A champions.
