PITTSFORD JUNIOR VARSITY SHINES AT MCCI
Pittsford’s junior varsity turned in some of the best times at the Monroe County Coaches Invitational (MCCI) at Webster Aquatic Center on February 3, with a number of Panther swimmers making the sectional cut.
Among those with sectional qualifying times: Alex Todisco, fastest time in the 50 free (25.18) and second fastest in the 100 free (57.81); Alex Hannan, second fastest in the 200 free (2:08.20); Dave Miller, second fastest in the 500 free (5:59.26); Andrew Maier, fastest in the 100 back (1:07.09), Mateo Bucci, second fastest in the back (1:07.62), and Ben French, fastest time in the 100 breast (1:11.28). In the 100 fly, the Panthers had three of the six sectional qualifiers in the event. Spencer Brown was fastest (1:05.49), Wahl was second (1:09.54) and Jeff Parvin was fifth (1:10.27).
“I’m really proud of the way these kids performed,” head coach Mark Morris said, “this is the future of Pittsford swimming.”
In addition to those making sectional qualifying times, Pittsford’s JV swimmers did well in a number of events, scoring points for the team in the MCCI competition (those making cut times were given “speeding tickets” and qualified to swim at sectionals, but weren’t included in the scoring). Scott Lasher won the diving competition, with Alex Byrd second. French was first in the 100 free. Ankit Ahuja took second in the 500 free. Bucci was second in the 200 IM and Nick Allwell fifth. Allwell also was fourth in the 100 breast, with Hannan fifth. In the 200 free, Jubin Matloubieh was fourth, Miller fifth and Ahuja sixth. In the 50 free, in addition to Todisco’s sectional time, Wahl, Brown, Parvin and Lasher finished 8,9,10,11 in a field of 25 swimmers.
In the relays, the 200 medley team of Bucci, Lasher, Parvin and Wahl took second place in the “B” event. Todisco, French, Hannan and Maier took second in the 200 free “A” sprint relay. Bucci, Wahl, Hannan and Parvin were fifth in the 400 free “A” relay.
“This is what you want to see as a coach, the younger kids swimming at the sectional level” Morris said. “The future is looking very bright."
