PITTSFORD EXTENDS UNBEATEN STREAK WITH WINS OVER WEBSTER, RUSH HENRIETTA
With sectionals and states on the horizon, Pittsford’s swimmers and divers showed no signs of letting up last week, sweeping past Webster and Rush Henrietta and advancing to 9-0 in dual meets and 11-0 overall this season.

The Panthers took charge of their meet at the Webster Aquatic Center on January 19, winning all 12 events and handing the Lakers a 121-59 defeat. It was an especially good day for Pittsford’s divers, as Sean Hingel scored a personal best 228.40 points for first place, and Wills DeMoulin turned in a personal best 201.65 points for third place.

“This is the first time in many, many years that we’ve had two divers score over 200 points at the same meet,” said head coach Mark Morris.

Ryan McCarthy rounded out the diving competition for Pittsford, taking fourth place with another personal best, 165.20 points.

Ben Silverstein, Kenny Pink, Sean McManus and Andrew Kuter set the pace for the team, opening with a win in the 200 medley relay. Nathan French followed with a first place in the 200 free, wit h teammate Charlie Ruff right behind in the second spot. Jimmy Prezzano’s personal best time of 2:05.32 claimed first in the 200 IM, with Silverstein coming in second and Pink taking third. In the 50 free, Kuter’s personal best of 22.88 captured another first.

Following diving, McManus took first in the 100 fly (57.45), with Dan Locke scoring a personal best time of 59.41 for third place. Ruff won the 100 free, with Kuter second. French and Prezanno finished 1,2 in the 500 free, then Kuter, Prezzano, Ruff and French teamed up for first in the sprint relay, the 200 free. Silverstein had a personal best 56.93 for first in the 100 back, with Lobban’s personal best of 100.23 good enough for third. McManus had his second win on the day in the 100 breast, with Pink second. The meet ended with Ruff, Prezzano, Pink and French winning the 400 free relay.

Coach Morris said the number of best times turned in by his swimmers was “significant,” because “the team is working very hard, getting ready for sectionals,” with a full practice schedule.

Pittsford’s junior varsity won their meet 105-74. Ben Myers, Ben French, Lee Silverstein and Andrew Maier won the 200 medley relay. In the individual events, Myers won the 100 free and 100 back. Alex Todisco was the victor in the 50 free, Brandon McManus took the 500 free, Lee Silverstein won the breaststroke and Scott Lasher won the JV diving competition.

PITTSFORD DEFEATS RUSH HENRIETTA, 112-66

Pittsford took first place in nine of 12 events and captured the top three spots in three events, as the Panthers downed Rush Henrietta, 112-66, in an away meet on January 17.

Jimmy Prezzano, Andrew Kuter and Matt Lobban teamed up for a 1,2,3 finish in the 200 IM. It was Nathan French in first, Kenny Pink second and Lee Silverstein third in the 100 fly. Prezzano, Dan Locke and Lobban went 1,2,3 in the 500 free.

Other individual highlights for the Panthers included Sean McManus winning the 200 free, with Ben Silverstein second. Charlie Ruff won the 50 free, with Locke in second place. Ruff’s second victory of the day came in the 100 free, with McManus second. French was also a double winner for the Panthers, taking the 100 back, with Pink second. Matt VanVoorhis and Lee Silverstein were 1,2 in the 100 breast.

Sean Hingel took second in diving behind Mike McDowell of Rush Henrietta, the state’s top ranked diver, in an exciting competition.

It was “Senior Appreciation” meet at Rush Henrietta, with the Royal Comets honoring their graduating seniors, including McDowell. They also acknowledged Pittsford’s senior co-captains – Ben Silverstein, Charlie Ruff, Derek Lasher and Sean Hingel.

Pittsford’s next test comes after the mid-term break, an away meet at division rival Fairport on January 31. The final home meet of the year is set for February 1, as the Panthers host Brockport at Mendon Pool.
