PITTSFORD DUNKS GREECE ATHENA TO EXTEND UNBEATEN STREAK
The Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team improved to 6-0 in dual meets and 8-0 overall as they celebrated the New Year by taking first place in ten of 12 events while defeating Greece Athena, 115-57, at Mendon pool.
Nathan French and Andrew Kuter were double winners for Pittsford at the home meet on January 5. French won both the 200 and 500 free events and Kuter was victorious in the 50 and 100 free. Ben Silverstein won the 100 back with a personal best time of 56.97, Kenny Pink was first in the 200 IM, and Sean McManus was the victor in the 100 breast (McManus edged teammate Pink by 1/100th of a second in the closest race of the day). Wills DeMoulin, Sean Hingel and Charlie Shaddock were 1,2,3 in diving for the Panthers.
“We’re feeling pretty good for this point in the season,” DeMoulin said. “We’ve improved a lot from the beginning of the year and you can really see it.”
Pittsford’s relay teams continued to shine, with Silverstein, Pink, Kuter and Charlie Ruff taking first in the opening 200 medley. Matt Lobban, Matt VanVoorhis, McManus and Hingel were second in the event. In the 400 free relay, Jimmy Prezzano teamed up with Silverstein, Pink and French for the win.
Athena's top swimmer, Todd Winchell, took first for Greece in the 100 fly, with Pittsford's McManus, Dan Locke and Derek Lasher coming in 2,3,4.
Head coach Mark Morris said he was “very pleased” with his team’s performance, especially given their tough training schedule during the school holiday.
“There were a lot of good times and the boys were very impressive, considering the large volume of work we did over the break,” Morris said.
Pittsford’s junior varsity notched another victory against the Athena JV, 103-49. The JV had an impressive three double winners on the day. John Lyman came in first in both the 200 free and 500 free. Lee Silverstein won the 200 IM and the 100 breast. Alex Todisco took both the 50 and 100 free events. Also winning individual events for the junior varsity were Spencer Brown (100 fly), Brandon McManus (100 back) and Scott Lasher (diving). Pittsford took the 200 medley relay behind B. McManus, L. Silverstein, Ben French and Andrew Maier.
Pittsford’s next meet will be against Gates-Chili, January 12, at Mendon High School.
