PITTSFORD SWIMMERS CLOSE OUT 2005 WITH VICTORY AT CANANDAIGUA
The Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team closed out 2005 by taking first place in ten of 12 events and handing Canandaigua their first loss of the season, 188-126.
Andrew Kuter and Nathan French were double winners for the Panthers at the December 29 meet at Canandaigua Academy. Kuter was first in the 50 and 100 free events. French was the victor in both the 200 and 500 free. Pittsford also took the top four spots in the 100 backstroke behind Ben Silverstein, Matt Lobban, Charlie Ruff and Derek Lasher.
Head coach Mark Morris was pleased with his team’s performance, as Pittsford extended its unbeaten streak and improved to 5-0 in dual meets and 7-0 overall. Morris noted that Canandaigua is the defending Finger Lakes League champion and fields a very competitive team.
Panther relay teams again played a key role in the victory, winning all three of their events. Silverstein, Ruff, Kuter and Kenny Pink teamed up to win the opening 200 medley. Kuter, Pink, French and Jimmy Prezzano won the 200 sprint relay and Dan Locke, John Lyman, Andrew Maier and Lasher concluded the meet with a victory in the 400 free.
Other first place finishers for Pittsford in individual events included Prezzano in the 200 IM and Pink in the 100 breaststroke. Sean Hingel took second for Pittsford in diving, with Wills DeMoulin coming in fourth. The Panthers went 2,3,4 in the 100 fly with Sean McManus, Locke and Lasher.
The visit to the Canandaigua Academy is becoming a holiday break tradition for the two teams. Last year, Pittsford handed the Braves their only dual meet loss of the season.
The next test for the Panthers will be at home on January 5 against Greece Athena/Odyssey.
