The Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team took first place in nine of 12 events as the finmen cruised past Irondequoit 63-38 in their first dual meet of the season.
The Panthers had two double-winners on the day. Andrew Kuter was the victor in both the 50 and 100 free events. Nathan French won the 500 free with an impressive time of 4:51.11 and also placed first in the 200 free.
Other winners in individual events for Pittsford included Ben Silverstein in the 100 back, Sean Hingel in diving and Sean McManus in the 100 breast, where he edged teammate Kenny Pink by less than half a second.
It was a good day for the Panther relay teams, with Silverstein, Pink and Kuter teaming up with Charlie Ruff to blow away the competition in the opening 200 medley relay. Matt Loban, Derek Lasher, Dan Locke and McManus took third in the medley. Silverstein, Pink, Kuter and Jimmy Prezzano were the winning combination in the 200 sprint relay. Locke, McManus, Lasher and French came in second in the sprint.
With the team heading into the heart of the season, with a number of dual meets and tournaments on the horizon, co-captain Ruff said “the guys felt really good about the win” at Irondequoit.
“We have a lot of young swimmers and they’re really stepping it up. We’re really pleased,” Ruff said.
Pittsford’s junior varsity also had a good day, winning 65-21, with three double winners. Swimming for the first time with the JV, Lee Silverstein was the victor in both the 200 IM and the 50 fly. Andrew Maier took first in the 50 and 100 free, and Ari Kapilivsky was the winner of the 200 and 500 free events.
Other first place finishes for the JV included Charlie Shaddock in diving and Brandon McManus in the 100 back. Matteo Bucci, Matt VanVoorhis, Anders Wahl and L. Silverstein teamed up to take the opening medley relay.
