My Site News: PITTSFORD TOPS IRONDEQUOIT, WEBSTER, GREECE

PITTSFORD TOPS IRONDEQUOIT, WEBSTER, GREECE
It was three meets and three wins for the Pittsford Swimming and Diving team, as the Panthers made short work of Irondequoit, Webster and Greece Arcadia/Olympia to remain undefeated.

Irondequoit provided the most competition, with the Eagles talented swimmers finishing first in seven of 12 events. But the Panthers balanced attack and bench strength was evident in the final score, Pittsford 109, Irondequoit 76, in a meet held at Mendon Pool on January 8. Brian Possee was a double winner for Pittsford, taking first place in the 200 individual medley (IM) with a 1:59.54 and posting a 52.20 for first in the 100 fly. Possee’s time in the fly, one of his signature events, was again good enough for All America consideration.

Other highlights for Pittsford included Kenny Pink’s 1:05.42 for first place in the 100 breast, with teammate Sean McManus coming in second. Possee teamed up with Greg Conklin, Taylor Topping and Jeremy Amon for first place in the 200 free relay. And Pittsford’s divers swept their events, opening up the first big lead of the day for the Panthers.

Head coach Mark Morris said that “things that need to happen are starting to happen” for his team, and he was especially pleased with his divers, noting that top scorer Sean Hingel had a “great day.” Hingel said he looked forward to trying more difficult dives in the weeks ahead and he complimented his fellow divers for “an awesome day.”

Backstroke was another strength for Pittsford, with Ben Silverstein second, Charlie Ruff third and Mike Moran coming in fourth in the 100 back. Also contributing to the Pittsford victory was Ruff’s third place finish in the 200 free, Silverstein’s third in the 200 IM, Conklin’s second place and Topping’s third in the 50 free, Jimmy Prezzano’s second and Conklin’s third place in the 500 free, and the second place finish by Possee, Pink, Topping and Amon in the opening medley relay. Silverstein, Ruff, Moran and Conklin wrapped up the day for Pittsford by finishing second in the 400 free relay, the last event of the meet.

Pittsford’s JV had an easier time, placing the fastest swimmer in nearly event and posting a 94-52 victory. Dan Locke and Matt Corsetti were double winners for the Panther’s JV swimmers.

“The team had their first real test and they responded well,” said coach Morris, who noted that Pittsford (7-0) is heading into the heart of the schedule, including much-anticipated contests against division rivals Fairport (January 13) and Penfield (January 21). In addition, the Beecher Invitational, where the Panthers have posted eight straight victories, will be held January 14-15 at Elmira.

Pittsford 116, Webster 66

Brian Possee and Jeremy Amon each won two events for Pittsford as the Panthers downed the Webster Lakers 116-66 at an away meet on January 5. Possee took first in the 100 fly and the 100 breast. Amon was the winner in both the 50 and 100 free competitions.

Alex Hummel won the 200 free. Ben Silverstein was tops in the 200 IM. Charlie Ruff was first in the 100 back. Wills DeMoulin won the diving competition. Possee and Amon teamed up with Taylor Topping, and Kenny Pink for a victory in the opening medley relay and the team of Possee, Amon, Ruff and Andrew Kuter won the 200 free sprint relay.

Pittsford’s JV posted a 92-65 victory over Webster. Matt Lobban and Dan Locke were double winners for the Panthers.

Pittsford 105, Greece Arcadia/Olympia 24

Mike Moran won the 50 free and the 100 fly as the Panthers cruised by Greece Arcadia/Olympia 105-24 at a meet at Mendon Pool on January 4. Other first place finishers for Pittsford included Charlie Ruff in the 200 free, Taylor Topping in the 200 IM, Ben Silverstein in the 100 free, Brian Possee in the 500 free and Matt Lobban in the 100 back. Wills DeMoulin was the victor in the diving competition for the Panthers. Pittsford’s JV cruised through their events, posting a 68-21 victory.
