PITTFORD SWIMS PAST CANANDAIGUA
Brian Possee won the 200 individual medley and the 100 free as the Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team celebrated the end of 2004 with a 177-133 victory over Canandaigua Academy. The undefeated Panthers took first place in eight of 12 events, handing Canandaigua their first loss of the year in a match on December 30.
The end-of-year meet began with a victory in the 200 medley relay as the team of Possee, Ben Silverstein, Kenny Pink and Greg Conklin turned in a winning time of 1:45.94. The Panthers also took third in the event behind Mike Moran, Sean McManus, Charlie Ruff and Alex Hummel.
Jimmy Prezzano’s 1:56.20 brought him first place in the 200 free, with Jeremy Amon second. Then the Panthers swept the top three spots in the 200 individual medley, with Possee posting a winning time of 2:01.46, followed by Pink and Silverstein. In the 50 free, Conklin captured second and Taylor Topping tied for third place.
A strong Canandaigua diving team swept the scoring in that event, but Pittsford came right back in the100 fly. Topping’s time of 58.87 took first place. Derek Lasher came in third in the fly, 1/100th of a second ahead of teammate Ruff in fourth place. Possee’s 50.48 in the 100 free gave him his second victory of the day, with Amon coming in second.
The Panthers had another 1,2,3 sweep in the 500 free. Conklin’s 5:14.32 took first, with Nathan French second and Moran third.
Conklin, Topping, Amon and Possee won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:33.45. In the 100 back, Silverstein took second place and Ruff was third. Pink and McManus completed the scoring for Pittsford with a 1,2 finish in the 100 breast.
Canandaigua’s only loss last season was also to Pittsford, with both teams going on to win their divisions. Canandaigua ended as the Finger Lakes League champions. Pittsford finished the season as Section 5, Monroe County and New York State champions.
Panther’s head coach Mark Morris noted that “the heart of the schedule” is just ahead for Pittsford (4-0). Morris and the team are looking forward to the Beecher Invitational, where they’ve posted eight straight wins. They’re also getting ready for an always-exciting meet against division rival Fairport and a match-up with a very competitive Penfield team.
