PITTSFORD DUNKS HILTON
The Pittsford Boys Swimming and Diving team cruised past Hilton 113-54 at their first dual meet of the season, sweeping the top three spots in six of 12 events and ending with ten first-place finishes. The defending New York State champions had two double winners, co-captains Greg Conklin and Brian Possee, at the varsity-only meet December 9 at Mendon Pool.
Ben Silverstein, Charlie Ruff, Kenny Pink and Alex Hummel posted a 1:49.15 to open with a victory in the 200 medley relay and the Panthers never looked back. Conklin followed with his first win of the day, 1:56.51, in the 200 free, with Jeremy Amon second and Jimmy Prezzano third.
In the 200 individual medley (IM), Possee posted a 1:59.81 for his first victory, with Ruff second and Silverstein third. Taylor Topping then won the 50 free, with Hummel in second place.
In the diving competition, Sean Hingel, Wills DeMoulin and Charlie Shaddock finished 1,2,3. Diving coach Carrie Crane said she was pleased with the results.
“All the work the boys put in during the off season is starting to pay off,” Crane said.
The sweeps continued with Possee posting his second victory in the 100 fly, followed by Topping in second place and Derek Lasher in third. Conklin clinched his double-win day by taking the 100 free, with Amon second and Andrew Kuter third.
Nathan French took first place with a personal best of 5:18.51 in the 500 free, followed by Prezzano and Matt Fetten. Silverstein won the 100 back with a personal best time of 58.39 and Pink was number one with a 1:08.08 in the 100 breast to round out the scoring for Pittsford.
“We were excited, ready to get this season started and see what we could do,” Conklin said.
Possee said he was “looking forward to some good match-ups in the weeks ahead,” especially the upcoming Owego Invitational, where Pittsford will face seven of the top eight teams in the state.
During the meet, Pittsford held a moment of silence to remember their teammate Jason Wilcox, who died in a car accident just before the season. Wilcox would have been a senior this year.
