Park Center Athletic Philosophy
Positive Self Concept
The athletic programs at Park Center work to develop positive attitudes about self, teammates, opponents and school. A positive self-image is a must to help our athletes realize their full worth as human beings. We believe in high-key recognition and low-key correction.
Value System
We strive to develop a healthy attitude about the wholesome value of sports.
Goal Setting
Through goal setting, our athletes can find concrete channels through which to work toward developing their own value systems. Goals, if they are reasonable, reachable and positive, provide a healthy way to develop individual and team skills.
Social Skills
Our athletic programs hope to develop social skills that are vital to our living in a modern society. These skills include working with others, learning sportsmanship, courtesy and respect, and recognizing the worth of others and their efforts.
Leadership
Leadership is exemplified by initiative, self-discipline, self-motivation, standards of excellence and respectful conduct.
Responsibility
We, at Park Center, attempt to develop responsibility through participation in athletics. Emphasis is placed on appropriate behavior at practices, in school and at athletic contests.
Academics
We attempt to develop a system of priorities which places academics about athletics. The athletic program is an integral part of the total curriculum which strives to develop a well-rounded individual.
Development of Skills
Acquisition and development of skills involved in the sport should constantly be encouraged and taught by coaches. Athletes should strive to develop their skills to their fullest potential.
Conflict
Conflicts will be resolved by direct communication, listening and the process of discussion.
Playing Time
All players should be given responsibilities which permit them to have a real sense of contribution towards a total team effort. Playing time is not a right which comes with joining a team, but is earned through developing skills and positive attitudes.
Injuries
When injuries do occur, we as coaches will try to identify then and treat then effectively on the playing field. All follow-up will go through the player's parents.
SUMMARY
We believe players should always gain positively from our programs and come away from Park Center with good feelings and memories of their stay with us.
WITH THIS PHILOSOPHY IN MIND, WE HOPE ALL CONCERNED REMEMBER THAT AN ATHLETIC CONTEST IS ONLY A GAME - NOT A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH FOR PLAYER, COACH, SCHOOL, OFFICIAL, FAN, COMMUNITY, STATE OR NATION.
